The two workers in the store seems to have a very peculiar attitude towards their customers. I would characterize their behaviour as rude, unhelpful, and downright odd. I had a simple request about a piece of luggage, and they both were beyond difficult in telling why they couldn't -- and wouldn't! -- assist me. The owner needs to do something about the lack of proper customer service or they will lose business. They have certainly lost mine permanently. I would never spend a single dollar with them, let alone $1,000 and up for a piece of luggage. read more

Direly poor quality luggage that was always more a status symbol thang (and I own several pieces). The place is under new ownership and refuses now to honor the lifetime guarantee of these constantly breaking bags--it's the zips and the wheels that go --and with frequency. The place is now owned by a notoriously cheap and abrasive real-estate baron (inherited empire) and his wife who purports to run the label. And so the shop has relocated one assumes to one of his buildings nearby, but now lacking the basement space where a lot of these repairs were once performed. The current batch of employees in the new space have been instructed to outright lie and state the entirely necessary free fixes have not been a policy since at least 2014. This is false, and everyone needs to be warned. The pandemic is hardly the only reason this firm filed for bankruptcy in 2020. read more

I called the store since I had two pieces of luggage that needed repair. They have a guarantee on defects and anything that's not usual wear & tear and told me to just bring it in for free repair. I asked for the manager when I arrived, and I was quite pleasant but told the manager that we had been disappointed in the luggage since T. Anthony is known for it's quality (theoretically, anyhow, but I kept that to myself) but that our luggage had had several repairs that were not from wear & tear. It took me by surprise that he immediately got irate and started saying that the store has sold luggage for over 60 years etc. etc. The rolling suitcase's pull out handle was completely broken (one side was disconnected from the handle,) a zipper pull is bent like an L, the formerly black and now ecru leather shows extreme wear and the red canvas the bag is made of always gets unsightly black marks each and every time it's checked. The smaller bag actually has a HOLE on the seam on the bottom, as well as most of the other issues above. All of which makes this pricey, upscale luggage look grungy and cheap. None of this is normal wear & tear, either -- my $20 rolling suitcase from the airport store has traveled 5 times more than the T. Anthony luggage, and has had zero problems. The $20 rolling suitcase has NEVER needed repair, but this is probably the third or fourth time we've needed to take this $600+ T. Anthony suitcase in for warranty repair. And just how far that will go is also uncertain - the manager said he'd have to show the owner the luggage and see whether he agreed that the repairs would be free or not!!! I paid $21 in advance delivery to get the bags delivered about 30 blocks. Update - T. Anthony refused to repair for free, and tried to charge hundreds of $$. No way we're throwing good money after bad on this shoddily made luggage. Honestly, go with another brand, or if you HAVE to get T. Anthony, go with black and keep your receipt handy. read more

T Anthony used to be a great brand and I really wanted to love it, because of its legacy. But the reality is that the quality is awful - zippers come off, the fabric tears, zippers don't function properly, the fabric doesn't wear well and looks terrible. I have three of their suitcases and my husband has one. We have had to take our suitcases in repeatedly and the staff thinks this is just fine. They do not understand that when one is traveling, it really isn't useful to have a zipper on a suitcase that doesn't work. So, the quality is bad - and I say this as someone who travels a fair amount and has other luggage - tumi, hartmann and vuitton. I have no problems with my other luggage (nor does my husband), most of which is much older than our TAnthony. Moreover, the customer service is just horrific. One guy assures me there is no problem with something, the next says there is (and he's correct). They are rude and told me they don't care if I ever buy another TAnthony product. And so I won't. There is a lot of good luggage on the market and the luggage sold at TAnthony isn't good, it does not hold up, which is the thing it simply must do. And if they don't need my business, well, I shall be happy to oblige. read more

I don't wear the type of clothes sold here but I walked into the store because I wanted to buy a nice, unique umbrella. I told the salesman this and walked back to the umbrellas. He followed me with a close eye. As I looked at the umbrellas, I saw nothing that was NOT black or atypical - and they were all over $200. Now I could afford five of these umbrellas if they were what I wanted but they were not. As I walked out, the salesman said, "They sell umbrellas at Staples [across the street]." I looked at him and said, "Who am I? Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman? If I liked the umbrella I would buy it. Get better stock and a better attitude if you want to make a sale to me." Eek! I have been buying their men's wallets for many years from their Short Hills store, now closed, so I purchased one on line from them. $155. Unlike previously where the brand was discretely embossed this one has the logo printed in silver and, being a textured leather finish, the printing looks awful and indistinct - what you might expect from a $5 Canal Street knockoff bag. I emailed customer service but never even heard back from them. I thought it an aberration but judging from the litany of shoddy manufacturing and poor customer service stories among these reviews it would seem par for the course. Seems a company living off its illustrious past. They may have been in business for 73 years but I wonder if they will outlive their next lease renewal if these reviews are at all representative of their current quality of product and service. read more

I purchased a large roller bag from T.Anthony about 5 years ago and have used it lightly since. The bag has slowly fallen apart and finally the handle broke off after my most recent trip. The zippers are broken, the leather has deteriorated and the wheels do not work. I reached out have the bag replaced or repaired and they wrote back an obnoxious email with expensive repair fees. I got a new job about a year ago, and for that, my girlfriend offered to buy me a new work bag. Generous offer on her part. I had had good luck with T Anthony in the past, and immediately thought of them for the bag. We went in and spent about $700 on a black leather attache (The "Tundra" flap briefcase on their website if you care). We had to switch straps with another bag in the store because the one on my bag seemed dry and poorly cured (should have been a warning sign) but we proceeded. About a month later, the bracket to which the strap attaches literally fell off the bag. The two rivets holding it on simply fell out. Went in and they repaired it. The sales guy who looked at it seemed fairly disgusted that this had happened, so I assumed it was a one-off. Fast forward another month or two, and I'm seeing really harsh wear on the ribs of the bag. Turns out they're not folded and stitched or reinforced with piping, but simply pressed together and polished. So now they're splitting. I take it into the store to explain the situation, and immediately find myself on the defensive with the manager, very similar to the above situation. He's berating me for not taking proper care of the bag (not a mark on it other than this crazy poor construction) and telling me "we sell these all the time, year in and year out, this has to be your fault, can't be us, etc. etc." We finally agree that he's going to refurbish the bag (doesn't need it as it's 4 months old and pristine) and reinforce the ribs (which should have been done at the factory), plus give us some money back for the trouble. This seemed reasonable to me. I had all of my work things in it (being my work bag, that tends to happen) so I have to make another trip down there (three trips to the store after purchase is not my idea of convenience or service. I finally drop the bag off, and call to follow up as I haven't heard back from them. The manager finally gets on the line, and dives into his "we sell these all the time, this has to be your fault, we're not going to fix this, we'll just refund your money." While this is happening I read the back of the ticket I was given, which says "After the SALE it's the SERVICE that counts!" I don't know if it's the manager, the store, new ownership or what, but never again. These guys have fallen off a cliff in terms of quality, and I never want to deal with the store manager again. I consider myself a fairly seasoned domestic and international corporate traveler and have used T. Anthony luggage for over 25 years. I found the store in my 20's on my first trip to New York City and chose a black and tan bag that I still use today. I have added to my collection through the years by returning to the store when I am in New York and I have also used the website. I have never had a problem getting answers to my questions or finding something that fits my needs exactly. The sturdy canvas and fine leather construction of each piece has taken all that time and miles can dish out and still looks so good that it makes me feel good about the luggage I carry. I am still so pleased and impressed with the classic style that has managed to remain so distinctive and enduring as the years pass. I have only had to use T. Anthony warranty service one time for a hand strap that pulled away from the base of my original bag. I happened to be in New York and dropped by the store and it was fixed before I left town. I couldn't have asked for more than that. Several years ago I gave my father, who is also a frequent traveler, a piece of T. Anthony luggage and he is now a loyal T. Anthony customer too, I put a premium on family and that is about as high a recommendation as I can give. read more

The bags look good, but quality is an issue and customer service truly a disappointment. Sorry to be harsh, but T. Anthony luggage should be bought only by consumers who need the buzz of buying a fancy NYC brand and can afford to trash the bag after only a few years of use. Over the past 10 years, my wife bought two 26 inch wheeled packing bags. Both bags were used for occasional travel - two, maybe three, trips per year. The body of the bags held up, the zippers were a disaster. We sent the first bag back to NYC for zipper repair, which between shipping costs and T. Anthony charges was incredible expensive. After a second zipper failure on the first bag, my wife opted to order a second bag (go figure). The second bag's zipper just broke on an overseas trip leaving my wife w/o an operable suitcase to return. My wife called T. Anthony's customer service and the rep blamed the zipper bust on TSA or the airlines and told her to complain to them. That left my wife w/o options other than buy another bag and then, as suggested by the T. Anthony rep, ship the broken bag to them ( at huge expense so they can charge my wife even more to fix a zipper that, by experience, will only break again.). Fortunately, the hotel concierge found a repair person who replaced the zipper with a plastic zipper that will undoubtedly outlast the unreliable junky but good looking (and expensive) brass zippers that T. Anthony uses. Regardless, my wife will trash the second bag when she gets back for next time there might not be a concierge to bail her out. At $750, the T. Anthony bags has handsome looks but poor quality when compared to less expensive, but still premium, brands like Briggs & Riley which standby their products. I own a 26 inch Briggs bag; hands down, it's just a better product with a great warranty and customer representative who are solutions-oriented and don't have attitude. read more

I have a T. Anthony Black Framed French Purse. It is made of beautiful black leather. I bought it at their store on Park Ave in 1999 and have been using it for almost 14 years! After all this time it has a bit of natural wear and a small tear but I still cannot stop using it! The wallet still looks great. I also like the fact it has 10 credit card slots and four more compartments for additional cards/business cards. Now that I have more plastic cards than ever, it is more than useful. I have a Prada purse that my husband bought me when we were first married. It still sits in the drawer until this day - unused. I must admit it, I love my luggage. I bought my first piece of T. Anthony luggage about 6 years ago. It is a large wheeled canvas duffle that I have taken with me just about everywhere I go. Since then I have added 3 matching pieces in the same pretty blue canvas- a practical tote, a wheeled carry-on bag, and the piece de resistance...a cosmetic case! I've found everyone at T. Anthony to be incredibly helpful. On my last visit, John and Richard were especially patient and attentive; go to either of them and they will take great care of you. Very, very disappointing customer service. My grandmother gifted me a rolling bag and duffle for my birthday. I loved the luggage - it really is beautiful. But I have repeatedly had problems with the zippers breaking and the even more frustrating piece is how unhelpful and ungracious the customer service is. The zippers have now broken twice. When I called to tell them I was disappointed that the luggage does not hold up like it should, they claimed to have no record of fixing the suitcase earlier. I told them I would forward the emails, which I did. I don't understand why everything is the customer's fault! Thankful for email record. Of all the luxury goods dealers with whom I have dealt, T Anthony stands out for the sturdiness of their product, the graciousness of their sales force, and the excellence of their service. Who else offers a "lifetime guarantee" of free repairs? I just had the pleasure of dropping off two items, one of which I've owned for twenty years, the other for fifteen. They were returned to me good as new. The staff offered to meet me on the curb as my cab awaited if I so wished. Once upon a time, this venerable store offered first rate luggage, accessory pieces and service. Alas, it is long past its prime. The manager prefers "to bully and belittle" customers when his word is not taken as gosple despite being shown clear proof of problems or defects with the luggage. Their cleaning service ruined a USD$650 T Anthony garment bag with his response being, " this is not our fault." The long offered and pragmatic accessory items are now flimsy versions to which the manager responds, "you are being inflexible." Customer Service has been a myth in recent years primarily due to the current manager. The other sales personnel are very good. Sadly, as with so many of the once famous New York stores, T Anthony is a shell of its former self. For the money, there are far better options who offer quality, service and politeness. read more

I received two pieces of T Anthony luggage as a gift--one roll aboard carry-on, and a matching duffle bag. I can only say that I'm happy I didn't pay for the stuff, because it is showing extreme wear and tear after less than a year of use. The retractable handle on the roller bag doesn't always go all the way down, and it's difficult to pull it out into the extracted position. As for the duffle bag, one of the handles has pulled loose and is about to detach from the bag. Oh, and the zippers stick often., too. I'm at a loss as to why this luggage is so popular, when there are more durable, less expensive and better built pieces out there in the retail world. Bottom line, I won't bother having the pieces fixed, nor would I consider buying additional pieces. If carry-on pieces can't make it through a year's worth of travel, just imagine what the airlines could do to checked pieces. read more

Luxury with a capital "T"! I started my T. Anthony collection this winter and I cannot wait to add to it! My first T. Anthony piece is the Carry-On Wheeled duffle in tan. I travel often and the bag has been durable and easy to travel with. The color is rich and stands out among all of the black luggage at the airport. The size is perfect, easy to wheel and easy to carry when needed. I was able to pack for an entire week in this carry on. Inside has plenty of space plus the bag is equip with inside and outer pockets for jewelry and small belongings. I had my initials engraved which makes it feel special and unique to me. It took only 10 minutes to be engraved. I waited in the store, which was an enjoyable experience as the team and store were very warm and welcoming. T Anthony makes great looking luggage that is not built to last. I bought my husband and myself matching soft cases about 2 years ago. Both cases have had their handles break off from the o-ring that holds them on to the canvas as well as the zipper around one case needed to be completely replaced. I have had to repair them now 4 times. If the owner of T Anthony reads these reviews, "please improve your quality because the bags look great and you have a special look". I have finally found the most sturdy and stylish luggage piece! My friends and I just took a ski trip and I needed a weekender large enough to hold all my ski clothes and accessories but still look classy and be super durable! After a thorough search, I decided to go with TAnthony and am so glad I did! This durable canvas weekender will be the only piece of luggage I'll use for all overnight and short vacations from here on out. It's the perfect size! There were so many styles to choose from when I surfed through their website, which is very impressive, by the way, but I decided to go with the weekender in black and white. They have other great color options, but the black and white really caught my eye. TAnthony is definitely a higher end brand and I couldn't be happier with how well made this piece is. Not only does it have one large center compartment, but there are two roomy zipper compartments along the side so that everything you travel with is safely tucked away and neatly organized. The genuine white leather trim is so elegant looking too and I even was able to have my initials monogrammed on the front in gold lettering. The removable adjustable shoulder strap is very comfortable and gave me the option to crossbody the weekender, which is basically how I carried it mostly throughout my trip. I never got so many compliments before and will be purchasing another piece soon. TAnthony will definitely be my go to place for travel pieces . I travel frequently with it and it is very durable and very classy. On a recent trip the airline broke a wheel on one of my cases. T. Anthony repaired it for no charge and I had the suitcase back in less than a week. They have a great repair service. My briefcase is also from T. Anthony. The staff all have been there for years, and they really know their products. Every time I've been there, I was impressed by the courtesy and knowledge of the salespeople. unfortunately, yelp! doesn't have an option for negative stars. my wife got a gift certificate for this place several years back an ended up purchasing a full size suitcase to the tune of $700.00. i told her this must be the rolls royce of bags. to start, the fabric is quite nice and the bag rolls smoothly. perhaps we paid for 680.00 worth of supple canvas and german racing bearings. fast forward no more than a dozen uses later and the stitching on the bottom part of the bag came undone. t. anthony recognized the mistake and fixed it in a timely manner. a year passed and a move across the country and lo and behold, yet another flaw with a very basic non moving part. one of the feet opposite the roller had come apart. rather than risk the shipping of the bulk item for repair, i took the liberty of inspecting the flaw myself. i reconfigured the broken plastic "foot" with the help of a few lock washers and am waiting to see the results as the bag is on another trip. i did notice on opening the luggage, that the support within is held together by grey duct tape. really, duct tape? i guess if it is good enough for $700 luggage it is good enough for a myriad of other uses. the product is shoddy at best. this should be categorized as "single use high end luggage." if your trust fund is not paying for it don't buy it! better off buying luggage at the discounter a couple blocks south on the west side of park avenue. you will save a lot of money and not worry about multiple repairs. read more

I've had my share of briefcases throughout the years, but they've always been gifts. Lately, a couple of friends pointed out that my current one was looking pretty shabby, and I might want to get a new one. So on a recent trip to New York City, I went briefcase shopping. I did a lot of walking and went into a lot of stores in search of my next brief case, and ultimately bought one at T. Anthony on Park Avenue. They have a large selection and their quality is really beautiful. I ended up with a flap briefcase in Italian leather. It has great compartments for everything, including my I pad. It also has phone compartments on the inside and outside, which I find very convenient. The person who assisted me was helpful and knowledgeable, but not pushy in any way. Bottom line, this place is a class act! They also engraved my new briefcase with my initials for no charge. Further proof that I made the right choice is the fact that in twenty years of being a lawyer this is the first time anyone has ever commented on how nice my briefcase was- and at the time of writing this review it's already happened three times! read more

I have been a fan of T. Anthony for a long time. I prefer boutique stores to the big department stores, and this is good one. In fact, I joined Yelp to help keep my favorite boutique stores and non-chain restaurants going strong. Anyway, T. Anthony has great luggage that is sturdy, and I have travelled all over the world with it. I chose the canvas luggage in red, which worked out well, because it's easy to spot on the baggage carousel. I also like that they personalize the luggage with your initials. On my most recent trip to New York, I had time to do some shopping (yay!), including a visit to T. Anthony. The store has been renovated, and looks open and modern, which I like. My old carry-on bag of another brand had broken, so I bought an International Wheeled Carry-On. I love it because in addition to looking sharp, it has lots of pockets for organizing! I also brought in my two large rolling pieces (which are 8 years old) for some repair work. T. Anthony refurbished my luggage without charge, and I had it back in time for my trip home. The service was exceptional and fast. If you're looking for good luggage, T.
