I filled out the paperwork on the Internet and mailed the leather bags to their Manhattan shop. I received a call the day the handbags were received. I gave a credit card number to repair both bags for $150 and $35 shipping and handling. I was told the bags would be returned to me within two weeks. Other reviews were so good that I felt very confident in dropping off a vintage bag to have the strap re-glued and stitched. Unfortunately after picking up my bag I was very disappointed in the workmanship. The stitches are very messy and inconsistent, it is glued together now, but really doesn't look any better. Hubby found this place when we needed to fix the zipper on one of our luggage it was pretty easy to do they seem to fix it either right away & u wait for it or it takes like a week the first time around he waited for it. Second time around on an another luggage again with the zipper same deal fixed the same day which was good since I needed the bag for traveling. Third time I had to get the wheel fixed on a large luggage & the combination lock this time around it could not be fixed on the spot since he said he had no one to do it , not a big deal since I did not need the luggage. I was told it would take 2 weeks & they would ship it back to me which was good & convenient since I didn't have to come back to pick it up. Disappointed in MLG, I had high hopes when I sent in my Chanel bag and wallet for cleaning and repairs. I had to mail them in as I live in TN not NYC, Tony called me after they arrived and we had made a game plan of what they were going to do and the cost. It was going to cost $400 to clean the bag, stitch up a small (approximately 1.5") rip of the bags interior lining, dye the bag from white to cream and clean the wallet. Tony was hopeful to get the bag and wallet back to me in 2 weeks which I thought was great but I was okay if it took longer, I got them back in about 3 weeks including shipping so not bad! I was so excited to open the box and see what they looked like. I was okay with the wallet, I guess they didn't want to mess with the coin compartment cleaning because that looks like it wasn't touched. The rest of the wallet looks really nice for the age of it and how dirty it was! I wish I could say as much for the bag. The bag wasn't nearly as dirty as the wallet, it was just discolored due to age and environmental issues and of course some dirt. They didn't clean the interior at all nor did they repair the rip!! There are some places where the color is fading especially on the bottom. You can tell it has been colored. I'm just shaking my head at how the reviews I saw and read are so different from my experience today. read more

i took my Victorinox suitcase with a broken wheel to Modern Leather Goods who is Victorinox's authorized repair center. It was an older bag so the wheel replacement was out of warranty. I paid to have both wheels replaced. After four days of normal travel, the wheels shredded and cracked. The bag is not rollable. I sent photos of the broken wheels to Modern Leather Goods and asked for a refund. I was told that the wheel replacement has no warranty but that they would replace them. I explained I was not coming back to New York for three months and it was not possible to travel with a suitcase with broken wheels for the next three months. The suitcase is not rollable. Modern Leather Goods will not refund my money despite the obvious product failure after four days. I get my shoes shined here and it's been a great experience so far. I just walk into the shop, ring the bell, and someone shines my shoes in the back area after I hand them over. Process takes approximately ten minutes or so for $5. There are four chairs in the waiting area that's always empty, and covid19 preventative cover by the cashier makes me better, even though it may merely be covid19 security theater. Disapprove- Dissatisfied -Displeased- Discontented Disappointed! If this were a 25$ job, maybe I wouldn't be so annoyed by the results. But for $75 Plus Tax, it just seems excessive for what I got. I think I could have repaired this tiny dime sized tear myself, if this was all I was getting for $75 PLUS TAX. It seems, they just put a patch on the back side and glued it down. You can still clearly see the tear mark. Am I supposed to walk around looking like a BUM, with this very APPARENT stitched up hole in my jacket? I think NOT! And NO, the entire sleeve doesn't need to be replaced, as they told me. I've be seen many leather tear repair jobs online that come out almost completely undetectable. I brought my new Chloe backpack here to have holes punch onto the straps so it will fit tighter onto my back. I have already punched one hole on my own but it was a bit small and I didn't have time to purchase the equipments to do it on my own. I found Modern Leather Goods on Yelp and I had fix feelings. I just told myself that these are professionals so I should just trust them. The gentleman from the front desk was extremely nice,helpful and very patient with me. There was also a few of their long term customers who brought luggages for them to fix. I was quoted $30 for 4 holes punched onto my straps (including fixing the hole I originally punched on my own) or having my straps shorten. I prefer just to have the 4 holes punched on the straps. He helped me measure to the ideal (also the shortest they can go) length. I waited around 10 minutes for the whole process. I left the store without fully inspecting the bag I only briefly looked the original hole I punched on the left strap and the main 2 straps in the bottom to make sure they were even which I though it would satisfying outcome. When I brought the backpack home and inspected it on the right side of the strap the was done terribly. Also when I closely checked the gold hardware that holds thats the strap bundle onto to the newly punched hole was scarped off (as if it was forced in or so). I wanted to go to another high-end repair shop on 5th Ave but I was told that it would take for 2 weeks. I needed to use my bag sooner. So I found this place. After reading some good reviews, I went for shortening my bag straps (vegan leather). The front guy said $60 each, $110 for 2 straps in person. I thought kind of expensive but I said ok because I did not have time to return to my office. The result was surprisingly poor. It was like that I tried for the first time. Nothing even....cut and lines. Right and left sides...I was shocked. I am a reasonable person but I just cannot wear the ugly stuff. I asked to do over again...still ugly. I asked again. It got better but not good at all. He said they could do again but the straps would be shorter again. But for me, I did not think they could do better job. So I paid $100 and left. We needed to do a daypack bag repair. It was a rip on the fabric that became very large. No nicknacks broken or anything so pretty straight forward fix. Typically I go with Luz Shoe Repair, but because of Covid they are now appointment only. So we went with this place. It's tucked inside Ktown above Abiko curry and the army stew restaurant, you can't miss it. Call ahead to make sure they're open. This seems obvious but most reviewers don't think that's the case. Showed up Monday afternoon and front desk guy was pretty nice, very knowledgeable. The two options were just folding it in and sewing it, or using a piece of fabric underneath and sewing on top. The former would be instantly done right there, while the latter would take a couple days, so we went with the former. We sat in the waiting area for just 10 mins or so and it was done. Felt like we were at the doctors office, pretty interesting experience. It was $45 which is a bit steep, I think you could get it for $30 or so at other shops (like Luz), but it's difficult to find the style of bag these days, so we'd rather repair than buy new, or deal with the hassle of finding another repair shop. They do have a policy where you can go back to ask for alteration if you aren't satisfied within a certain time frame, so there's that. read more

I went to Modern Leather goods about two years ago to get my luggage wheel replaced as it got busted as you can see from the picture. I got it replaced from Modern Leather Goods for about $40 plus the 4% surcharge they use for payments with credit cards as you can can see from the receipt. My wheel got busted a month later but I never took it to them because I'm so busy with work and was not in the city. I happened to take it to them today but the worker at the counter said it's $60 to replace the wheel even after I told him I pay $40 for the wheel replacement and showed him the receipt. He told me it was not the wheel and it was the rubber. I told him it was the whole wheel because the rim of the wheel because I remember it was a different color when I got it replaced. He just said it was $60 dollars to changed it. I left because I can a whole new travel pro spinner 21' for $80. I wouldn't recommend going there because they are so overpriced. read more

I am absolutely SHOCKED by their service!! I came in on a Monday afternoon, not really sure what to expect. This place is on the edge of Korea town, and the store itself is on the 4th floor of a sketchy building. There were a few people in front of me in line, but it moved quickly enough. The handle of my Samsonite luggage wasn't going down anymore, and after telling the guys at the front just that, they took the bag to the back to "see what they thought". I was asked to sit down. Within two minutes, the man called me back saying my bag was all set, and they put a new spring on it. TWO MINUTES. and it was covered under warranty. I had a nightmarish experience with this vendor. I brought my bag in for cleaning on 5/4 and was told that it would be ready in 2 weeks. I was also told that someone at the store would call me when the cleaning was complete. I left the bag at the store in return for a receipt, and I was happy that I could have the bag cleaned by professional. Just to be sure, I asked the person at the store if I need to call back to check on the status, and the person told me not at all. Someone at the store would call me when the bag is ready. Almost a month had gone by, and I did not hear from the store. So I decided to call back to check on the status. When I called back, someone went to check on the item and told me everything is ready. I wondered to myself why no one called me after almost 1 month had gone by. Nonetheless, I went back to pick up the bag the next day. When I went back to pick up the bag, I was in for another surprise. As I was inspecting the bag, I found out that no cleaning had been done on the bag. The store was trying to give me back the bag without any cleaning and charging me for it. I told the person that no cleaning had been done, so the representative took a close look and found that to be the case. As a result, the person took the bag back and told me that they would clean it and have it ready the next day. So I went home somewhat disappointed but figure it would only take an extra day. Again, the representative told me someone would call me the next day. A few days had gone by, and I did not hear from the company. So I called the store to check on the status, and I was told that everything is ready. So I went back to pick up the bag and was utterly speechless. The so called "professional" of handbag & accessory repair had managed to damage the leather that I needed cleaning and wiped out even the engraved Chloe logo. So I told the representative that they managed to wipe out the engraved Chloe logo. The representative told me that it was like that before. What a bunch of crooks! Do not trust these people. Their website proclaims excellent service. Not so. I called the store to let them know I was referred to their shop by Samsonite customer service for warranty repair. Poor attitude from the start-- the guys name is Terry. I described to him a simple issue involving my handle that won't retract or move at all. Very straightforward issue. He said he can't give any information without first inspecting the suitcase. Fair enough. I asked if he's able to give any additional information on what the process might look like. He said "Best case scenario: Samsonite covers the repair, we contact Samsonite and they replace; worst case scenario would be a repair cost of $125 and there's a possibility I don't have the parts." Since this shop is the ONLY certified repair shop that Samsonite works with, I really have no choice. I arrive today with the suitcase. Ahead of me in line was a lady that looked like she had just gone through what I was about to. Again, poor attitude from minute one (I suppose I would have one too, given the circumstances). He makes no attempt to actually inspect the suitcase (zip the inside sleeve down and look at the rods). He looks at the tag which indicates the warranty expires on August 8, 2023. Today is July 22, 2023. He says warranty repair not possible. I explain that we're in July and the warranty expires in August. He says Samsonite won't care and will reject the repair-- I had already spoken with Samsonite and they said the suitcase was within warranty and directed me to this shop! I told him that I had called yesterday and spoken with him about Samsonite replacing or reimbursing-- he claimed he said no such thing and never spoke with me. I elaborated on the details of the conversation and he finally conceded that I was speaking with him and that he did say that. He seemed puzzled by the underlying issue and said "I'll see what I can do to fix it, but I can't guarantee anything." I told him that I didn't want the repair if the warranty was not going to cover it-- he again said that Samsonite would not cover it. Red flag for me was that he acted like the handle issue was the first time he'd ever seen that before and was attempting to paint this as a complex job-- seems odd if this is the ONLY certified shop in Manhattan. You'd think they see this every day. Bottom line: He refused to talk about the warranty repair (probably a low reimbursement from Samsonite and paperwork). And instead tried to take me for an expensive out-of-pocket repair. Ends up there are tons of online videos that show you how to fix this exact issue. Save yourself the grief and poor customer service.. By all means, if you can fix the handle issue yourself, DO SO. Don't bother hauling your luggage across town to this place. They have print-outs of rave customer service reviews on the walls, but only one from the last 5 years-- sounds about right. read more
