I've been a customer for nearly a decade, and this was the only place I trusted with my shoes. They used to do excellent work, and I didn't mind the price because the quality justified it. Unfortunately, in the past couple years the quality has declined dramatically. The work has become sloppy, and on each of my last two visits they have actually damaged my shoes. The first time, they were able to improve the damage, so I let it go. This time, multiple pairs in the same order came back damaged, on top of the work being otherwise subpar. I take extremely good care of my shoes, and I can't continue bringing them in for routine work like resoling only to have them come back with damage that wasn't there before. Love this place!!! I cannot say enough amazing things about this company! I brought in my Louis Vuitton bag after it experienced an unexpected accident that required a very deep and delicate cleaning. This bag means the world to me because it was my very first designer bag, gifted to me over 10 years ago They worked absolute magic! The cleaning and restoration were done with such incredible care and attention to detail. When I got it back, it literally looked brand new You would never know it had gone through anything! Absolutely despicable. Stay away from Leather Spa at all costs! Destroyed a brand new, unworn pair of Louboutin boots for which I just paid over $2k at Saks. I first brought the boots to the Grand Central location and was turned away because apparently only 55th Street (the least accessible NYC location for me) does calf alterations. My boots were 1-1.5" too wide in the calves as I have very narrow legs, and while I was clear that I didn't want them to be tight, I did want them to look more fitted and neater around my legs. I went to 55th Street and intentionally had the boots fitted over jeans, repeatedly telling the store employee that he was cutting off my circulation and needed to loosen the boots. Rather than listen to me and do what I asked, he told me that they could stretch them if they turned out too small. I very adamantly said no, I will not compromise the integrity of the leather by stretching them nor will I agree to have the boots made too small so that additional work will be required. I finally asked him to provide the final measurement and was told it was 13". The boots were originally 14.5" for reference. The boots were ready in just over a week, which already had me concerned since I hadn't requested a rush job. Upon receiving them, I could immediately see that they were two different sizes. The left boot is 12.5" and the right boot is just barely 12.25". They are nearly impossible to zip, the seams were done VERY poorly and not straight, and most importantly, they do not fit without severe pain. I cannot walk in them. I literally can't even move my right ankle. And that's on my bare legs without jeans. I immediately contacted Leather Spa and received a response from Vincent who said it's very common for boots with this type of repair to require additional treatment and that I should bring them back for stretching. Did I not already have this conversation BEFORE I paid $300+ to ruin $2k+ boots??? Vincent insists they are not ruined even after I sent photos showing that they very much are. Further, they didn't even send them back to me nicely - they threw shreds of cut leather pieces inside one of the boots and just sent them off that way as further evidence of the total rush job. I used to frequent Leather Spa 55th and my patronage fell off years ago after they did something very similar to a pair of $300 boots. I was very clear during my visit this time that that could not happen again with my brand new Louboutin boots that were significantly more expensive. Had the employee just told me on the spot that they were going to cut my boots too small and require stretching thereafter, I would've taken the boots, walked out and gotten them repaired elsewhere. Literally the only reason I returned to Leather Spa is because Christian Louboutin recommends them. Never again. read more

Overpriced decent repair on Chanel bag ! Possible I could have saved significant $ at a local NY shoe repair

This place needs more business like a hole in the head! Everytime I come here, there is a line of girls and boys clutching their shoes and bags for repair as if waiting to see some psychic guru. Now, I'd heard of this place years ago from the employees at Wilkes Bashford, but mailing my Prada platforms out here seemed like too much work. Going in person after having lunch at Benoit... made much more sense. I'm not sure if you're aware, but the price of designer shoes has risen quicker than Apple stock over the past few years. Now, when a pair of shoes costs about 4 shares of said stock, you like to think of them as an investment... a life-long investment! When your bestfriend makes you run across the street, in the dark after a few drinks in the Castro and you twist your ankle and break a strap, YOU NEVER LET HIM FORGET IT! Prada platforms are built like Audi's... on impact they crumple so you live but your car is in need of serious repair. After years of bitching, the BFF finally no longer gets to hear about that incident, because theres a place called the Leather Spa. Asian girl not bitching= priceless. Now, I was a little skeptical, but I brought in 2 pairs of Prada platforms, both with broken straps. One of the shoes had a strap that had been always to short to begin with because I have chubby little toes... which is why I can't wear French shoes (although that doesn't stop me...) the lovely girl behind the counter told me they could lengthen it 5/8 an inch. Who knew they could even do that? They gave me an estimate for $108 for both pairs, and I went merrily on my way. 2 weeks later after a phone call telling me my shoes were ready, I came into pick them up. AMAZING! So happy... Now rummaging through my closet to see what else I can find that needs fixin'. read more

I have been an avid customer for a number of years. I've taken all my designer shoes here, Louboutins, Chanel flats & espadrilles, Gucci loafers, Dior slides, etc. to be serviced. I had minor complaints here and there but they were the only place I trusted with my high price designer items. Even after they changed their policy several times. That is until I took a pair of BRAND NEW Giuseppe sandals in for a 1/2 sole. When I received my shoes back, one of the rhinestones was missing and it looked like they tried to glue it back in place. When I brought up the issue to the manager, she went to the back and supposedly spoke to some of the cobblers. When she returned, she told me that "no one reported an issue with the shoe, or that any damage had taken place." B/c why tf would they??? A brand new pair of sandals ruined. I have not returned to them since and will not be returning. Now I must find a new cobbler for my designer items. read more

Phenomenal job! They have fixed two different cobblers mistakes. I can't believe how good the shoes turned out after one shoe got a drop of black dye/edge dressing on the brown shoe from another shoe repair place. The other mistake they fixed was when I had two Brown Cordovan leather shoes polished elsewhere, but with two different colors of brown. (Cobbler took a break between shoes and picked up a different polish). (Stay with your shoes don't drop them off). Everyone told me these were impossible to repair. Went to location on W 55 street. Paid over $450 to repair two pairs of shoes and the repairs extended life of shoes, but nothing to write home about. Most annoying aspect was the poor customer service. Ronaldo (sp?) on three occasions left much to be desired, curt, uninformative and unfriendly. I won't use the leather spa again primarily because of the poor customer service coupled with the basic repairs. read more

I've used Leather Spa a few times before and always had a good experience, but after my most recent experience, I felt compelled to leave a review. I brought in a pair of Prada boots that needed to be resoled. When I was in the store, I was shown a pair of Vibram soles that would presumably be used as a replacement. They didn't look quite as nice as the unique teeth design of the original soles, but I was just happy to be able to have the soles replaced. Upon picking them up today, I was shocked to see that they actually replaced the soles with the original design! Considering how long ago I purchased them (2014/2015) I didn't think I'd get the original design. I cannot speak more highly of the team at Leather Spa. You may sometimes have to wait a bit before your repair is complete, but you can be assured that they do impeccable work. Highly, highly recommend! read more

Sent a 10 year old pair of Christian Louboutin shoes for repair of red soles, they did an AMAZING job! They also cleaned the patent leather and the inside of the shoes, replaced the heel taps, they look like a new pair of shoes. Their service was efficient and relatively quick. I sent them from Houston and they returned with careful packaging. It was worth every penny I spent. I will definitely use again if my designer shoes need repair. read more

Let me tell you this place is heaven sent . Not to mention one of the last places in nyc with true professionalism and satisfactory customer service. Not only did the make 2 pairs of my Louis Vuitton shoes brand new but they repaired a 3 rd pair beyond belief !!!! This shoe was missing the entire bottom, I waited 2 years to hear back from the Miami Louis Vuitton store I bought the shoes and no progress on the piece needed to repair. Used to be great. I've taken many things there over years. They have done some excellent work on my shoes and shoes and bags of my wife. Prices were always higher than competition and the waits longer but it was premium quality. Sadly, no longer. Prices are now ridiculous. Sometimes twice the price of competitors but, more importantly, quality has fallen dramatically. I brought a pair of Ferragamo lugs sole loafers to be resoled. Not sure what they did but they've completely lost all flexibility and once super comfortable shoes are unwearable if I need to actually walk in them. There are several higher quality, and usually cheaper, competitors -- an excellent one just a few blocks away. read more

The guy at the front desk took a look at it and brought it to the back to ensure they could clean it, He came back out and told me they could with the warning that if they couldn't get it cleaned I still had to pay. I handed my purse over and paid. I got my purse back and it looks like it got ran over!!! This purse was brand new (literally worn it twice) and only needed the back to be cleaned. The front looks like they scrubbed so hard the leather is now worn/wrinkled. The back of the purse (where the black stain was) has nicks all in the leather. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with this service. Getting my shoes my Prada shoes restored was $260 and getting taps put on the back of my Chanel's were $65.00 if you can't always afford to go here then it is a great backup place to go to if no other shoe repair will be able to fix your item or if they were afraid of damaging the shoe didn't want to touch it. Please avoid at all cost. Completely ruined my designer bag for a small modification and had horrible attitude. Did not try to help and tried to put the responsibility on me as the customer, who has 0 skill sets and training in leather. Kept blaming me for it and said I agreed with what I asked for. I'm not sure what kind of training the workers have to quality working at a leather shop. The leather cut open had edges and the sewing is not even straight. This place is one of the best if not the best shoe a handbag and leather repair companies but I know. They have fixed so many of my shoes change the heels, clean my weight, refreshed my studs on my Louboutin's, they also have the official red to repaint the bottom of my louboutin's. They have done so many different things for me even cutting and making a Gucci belt shorter winning the leather on my white Fendi belt. And the list goes on and on. The one thing I will say they are a little pricey but if you're paying luxury items then it may be worth it to keep them refreshed and in good shape so that you can wear it or used them for years and years. I have some designer shoes that I've had for 15 years at least and I'm still wearing them thanks to leather spa. read more

I was quoted ~$40-50 repair after sending pictures of the item. I mailed the item in and they changed their quote to $180 citing it would require more time and must be hand done. I could see double the price but to raise it 4x the original estimate is bad business and poor in character. I also had to pay freight. I'm unsure of their craftsmanship as I did not get the repair. I work in a business in which we quote daily, but we stand by our quotes when we make a mistake. I'd recommend going with a business that stands by their word. read more

The Leather Spa is the only place I go to rehabilitate my luxury goods. Are they expensive...we'll that's subjective isn't it? However, if you care to maintain your expensive designer pieces than you should probably expect a designer price to keep them looking as you want. I've heard their mail in service isn't as good as in person. I've never actually tried to mail in my pieces but that was what a friend told me. It was also her first time frequenting Leather Spa so keep that in mind. Nevertheless, I'm giving 5 stars because of my personal experience. Their staff is amazing at all locations, their timing is extremely long, they will accommodate you as best possible. When I called to complain and ask that they be redone. You have NEVER seen a circling of the wagons! These people are liars, they are not to be trusted with your special shoes. But I started to notice that the shoe was getting damaged Some way or the other. I stopped putting the protection on the shoes and nothing happened. Do not take your bags here for repair! Huge huge rip off and pretty much a scam. I called in and had a video consultation with someone for my Tory Burch Perry Tote bag because one of the handles had a small piece of edge/rubber that was starting to come off. They told me during the consultation that the entire handle needed to be repaired because the inside material of the handle was getting damaged, which is why the rubber was starting to come off. On their website, bag handle repairs are estimated to be $40-$60, but the consultant told me $150. I took the risk and sent the bag in to them. When I got it back, the only part of the bag that was damaged had a noticeable hard paint over it, which was already cracked!! It was clear that they didn't do anything but paint over that part.. Since the paint was already cracking without me using it, it would be completely damaged with just one use! If I knew that was what they were going to do, I DEFINITELY would not have taken my bag to them for repair. I emailed twice about my concerns and no one has responded to me. I sent a lambskin leather pouch to be deodorized and repaired (there were two small rips, each less than 1/8" of an inch in length.) They charged $109, which I reluctantly paid. The deodorizing and cleaning were great, leaving no changes to the color or texture of the lambskin. However, after 2 weeks, one of the patches they used to repair a rip began to peel off. I contacted them and sent photos expecting them to fix the issue. I understand these things happen and thought it would be a simple fix. Shockingly, one of their representatives claimed that they did not put the patch on the pouch. It was such an absurd claim, for what should have been a simple fix, that I find the situation both humorous and sad. After denying that they placed the patch on the bag, they then offered to repair it as a complimentary service. If the patch somehow wasn't their work, then why offer to repair it? It's hard to blame that kind of strange interaction on COVID-19 restrictions, so I'm really not sure what is happening at this business. After reading other recent reviews, it is clear that a retraining is in order for the team. read more
