I was always wary of m0851. I'd popped into their stores a few times, lusted after some soft, silky leather jackets and duffels and went on my way deciding that the rest of the line was a little too expensive and a little too stiff for me. Then their sample sale rolled around last year in this clean, well lit store, and I conceded - this is beautiful, simple chic stuff. What's really impressive though is the construction. The two shirts I have from here seem hearty and lightweight at the same time. And their clean, simple lines and cuts are very flattering. I still think at full price it's a bit too expensive for what you're getting, but catch the stuff on sale and you'll have something you can wear for a while. One day, I'll be able to afford one of their jackets (even on sale, they're a bit ridiculous), but until then, I'm happy to oogle and shop for shirts on sale. read more

I dropped by this store over the weekend in hopes of finding a waterproof windbreaker that would be stylish and durable enough to replace three other old and dilapidated coats of mine, each of which was serving a different function. Learning about this company through my boss, who has a handsome wool lined waterproof trench, I figured this was a good place to start. As soon as I walked into the store and started plucking coats off the rack a salesperson was Johnny on the spot. The more questions I asked, the more people jumped in to fill in the gaps and give me the 313 on each of the lines and coat features. By the end, three sales people were helping me to find the right coat and listened to my concerns and those of my fastidious fashion-forward wife. I settled on the 57 50 coat in black with rain proof pockets and a concealable hood that makes for a freestanding Bladerunner style collar. It was not cheap, but the coat feels well made and I don't foresee having to replace it anytime soon. In my experience, when it comes to outerwear, you get what you pay for. This place does not do a lot of advertising, so I feel compelled to spread the word on a good product, especially one with forward thinking design, and a brick and mortar store with good salespeople behind it. read more

I discovered them in Montreal and it was love at first touch. I can't say enough about the NYC staff. They stayed late to let me shop. I am not a Diva, but I did travel over one hundred miles to shop at the store. Warning! Once you buy one ..... The quality is amazing ,worth every penny. Their bags just get better with age. I love this store. They have THE MOST amazing leather products. The leather looks light and shiny, but once it breaks in and stops being so shiny, it is the softest, most buttery leather you've ever seen or felt in your life. LOVE. I find their prices very high, but the work is done in Canada under Fair Labour Laws, so I am not kvetching over that.. too much. I wait for sales if I can (sample ones sometimes on colours that go out of style), and I just go in there to pet things. Come here if you want THE MOST amazing leather products (jackets, pencil cases, bags), done in a VERY minimalist style (for the most part) and beautifully executed. I know they aren't super organized sometimes and it seems totally effed up (their processes/procedures at times), but it's an independent company in Montreal doing business in NYC... The Salesperson who helped me was so nice and I absolutely love my handbag, lightweight for a leather bag, with amazing inside pockets. Exquisite, understated, discreet and amazingly cool (and it still exists in Soho, who knew). Stumbled across this store three years ago and found that I loved their stretch jersey hoodies for men. Lightweight but sexy - the cut emphasizes the shoulders, hugs the sides and ends up with you feeling like you're wearing practically nothing but with a masculine silhouette that makes you feel incredibly sexy, self aware, and cool. Crisp, neutral colors ranging from teal to grey to charcoal to beige make up the palette. They say they're a leather store, but it's the knits with mixes of jersey that I swear by and bring both myself and friends back. Also, they do NO marketing or PR -- and somehow manage to support their store (they confirmed this -- I practically offered to do it for free, for knowledge that I'd be at a large loss if they ever went out of business). Swing by, and if you're a guy, try on one of their jersey or stretch knit tops. You will justify the $130 cost to yourself. read more

I was alerted of their sample sale on a blog (up to 75% off). My impressions of the brand are Canadian, well-worn, and casual with durability. The leather smell of the store was intoxicating. The canvas parts of the bags looked protected/waxed. Nothing caught my eye, but if your style is a bit classic/Northwestern and you like to invest in durable pieces, it's worth a stop. They had duffles, purses, coin purses, clutches, belts, and jackets on sale. read more

Although I love a lot of their bags, I only ever consider buying stuff at their big sale. (Although, I buy most everything on sale...) I just bought a shoulder bag and am looooving it. It's just the right balance of casual, but stylish (god, I hate that word.) The leather seems to wear really well. One sales guy was telling me that you can wash the leather and it ages even better! A friend has a bag she bought here several years ago and uses it daily. It was a great investment for her. Depending on what you're looking for, they might have exactly the right thing for you. I love, love, love m0851. I have been shopping there for years now, and I still use bags that I purchased almost ten years ago. Their leather is unmatched! The tennis, the functional and the clutch are a part of my everyday wardrobe. I'm a sucker for the rich chocolate brown. What I have come to appreciate even more over the years, is their impeccable service. I had to repair my leather jacket last year and it only took one week. I was quite pleased! I was a fan, but now I'm not. I recently had a terrible experience with this store. I purchased a leather jacket, and there was a tiny hole on the button snap area. Because the hole was around the snap area, I was worried about wear and tear. Within a week, I took the jacket back, and within 4 days, I called them to notify them. They had my jacket for 3 weeks, when I finally dropped by. They wanted to charge me $200.00 to repair the hole (because they would have to replace that panel), and then proceeded to call it a "blemish." The manager told me he would replace the jacket, so I came in with some friends. He told me to hold on, while he proceeded to get the jacket. When he brought it up, it was so worn (it looked like it was worn for 10 years--actually it looks like that it was worn by their salespeople), that I told them I would rather have them repair the hole, or write on the receipt that if the tiny hole got bigger, they would repair it for free. He wrote, "customer complains of a blemish" on the ticket. The manager cajoled me in saying that "it wasn't going to be bigger," and if I had any problems that he would be there even after 2 or 3 years to be a witness. I told their corporate offices to take me off the mailing list. Diane, from corporate office contacted me as she was very concerned. She contacted the manager, who I was interacting with, and he seemed to have told her there was a misunderstanding. Needless to say, I won't shop there again. My two friends who were with me were embarrassed for me. They won't shop there again. Buyers Beware! read more

ok, don't tell, but if you ever need to buy your way into my affections, this store is jackpot. not that my love can be bought, of course. but the minute i touch the soft, minimalistically-designed bags and jackets, i begin to drool. and sweat, in nervous fear that i will not be able to resist making an extravagant purchase in favor of saving to buy my first piece of real estate. housing vs. jaw-dropping leather jacket. hmmmmmm.... let me tell you, it was mighty hard to stay strong; the coat that was originally $970 and on sale for 50% off? it was calling my name. hear that sugar daddy? follow my trail of drool and you'll know exactly how much my love will cost! oh yeah - no accessible entry from the street, but if you can somehow bypass those pesky crooked metal steps between the sidewalk and entrance, there will be a wheelchair lift to take you from the foyer up to the main store level. nope, didn't make any sense to me either. read more

I would highly recommend avoiding this brand. Both my brother and I got backpacks from here and after a little over a year, a strap from my brothers bag has completely torn off and the other is on its way. The interior of my bag has ripped from putting my laptop in and out. Because it's been over a year, there's no warranty for these fixes, which I find unacceptable for a 500 dollar backpack. These bags are no doubt made from beautiful material, but the durability makes it far from worth it. I know other bag brands that take the durability of their products much more serious and offer lifetime warranty within the normal scope of use. Those are the brands worth your money. read more

Short form haiku review: Clean modern design Soft supple leather makes you Feel and look unique. I was cruising around SoHo the other day and happened to stumble into M0851. Normally, these types of stores can be intimidating and full of snotty sales people. I didn't get that vibe when I walked in. As far as I know, it's the only Canadian-based boutique in SoHo. They specialize in leather goods, such as jackets, coats and small items like purses wallets. True to the name, the products do seem to have an architectural quality to them. Seams are nicely constructed and the designs are pretty well thought-out. They have a pretty good variety of leather jackets for men and women and if you like the sleek look, it's worth a visit. I tried on a couple of moto-style jackets and liked how it looked, but ultimately thought it was a bit pricey ($800-1000). The wallets range in price starting from around $70. They do have a small selection of other non-leather outerwear, but you're better off skipping it and checking out stuff from www.nau.com. I wouldn't say it's a must-shop place if you're from out of town; your time is better served in hipper boutiques in the area. But if you're in town and happen to be in the market for a modern leather jacket, it may be worth a visit. Happy shopping. read more

If you like the Vancouver store, you will be in absolute heaven at this location. There is a larger variety. They carry some styles that the Vancouver store does not. The staff are super friendly and helpful. All of the new styles and colours are gorgeous and functional. The quality is immaculate and will last forever. Gorgeous leather bags that are low key looking: Usually no logos. Also leather jackets, etc. Things are very well designed here and the leather is great. I bought a handbag here and used it every day. The fabric wore out on the top of it. They replaced the top at no charge and the bag is like new again and I'm using it every day. When I can afford one of their duffle bags, I'm going to get one. Some of the salespeople are really nice. read more

Love this place. The staff is a little snotty. They had much better staff before the moved, who understood that you want to look and wait for the sale to buy. Now, once they see that you are just waiting for the sale, they don't even approach you for help. One of the managers (a guy) is pretty cool though. LOVE LOVE LOVE the leather. My first time in the store was the worst overall experience with the brand itself. After years of great respect and admiration for the design and quality of all m0851 products online I faced the poorest management system in person. I felt cheated. m0851 online catalog shows all items listed with prices in Canadian Dollars. Like all international brands the prices are supposed to translate to US Dollars in equal value. It's not the case here. 615USD=595CAD??!! They got the math wrong. 1 Canadian Dollar = 0.91 US Dollar. This means $542.56 and not $615! When I called the store to ask for the difference $72.44 on the overcharged item they had no clue about the current currency rate! They even said that the rate is the reason for the price difference. Clueless! And instead of giving me a store credit they went to their website and changed the price to $615. You are welcome for the heads up! Never will I deal with the store again. However, I think they work on commission and was told curious (conflicting) things by different associates regarding which items were on sale.
