Velasquez and Sons - 5mins job

Velasquez and Sons

I normally go here for the oil change special; but I had never had my vehicle serviced here…read moreotherwise. Last week, my brakes started squeaking; so yesterday I took my car in for an inspection. I really respect Velasquez and Sons for being honest and telling me that my brakes were fine--that I just needed brake pad adjustments. A lot of mechanic shops would've have taken advantage of my lack of knowledge about cars. The best part is that they only charged me a VERY, affordable fee for the minor adjustments! Velasquez and Sons is awesome.

Be Careful at Velasquez Chicago Heights -- Dishonest Diagnostic Practices…read more I went to Velasquez in Chicago Heights because my car's check engine light was on. AutoZone told me it was the catalytic converter, so I purchased the correct one and brought it in for installation. After inspection, they told me my catalytic converter was in good condition and that the issue was the three flex pipes, which I paid $450 to replace. A few days later, the same problem returned -- same noise, same check engine light. When I went back, the same shop told me now it's the catalytic converter after all, even though I was told to return the one I had already purchased based on their advice. I ended up paying for unnecessary repairs, return shipping, and now they're asking for another $350 to fix what I initially came in for. This experience was disappointing and felt misleading. As a Black woman, it's disheartening to constantly feel taken advantage of in car repair spaces. Please double-check diagnostics before agreeing to costly repairs and get a second opinion. Honest service matters.

Without question, the most honest, experienced, knowledgeable, and capable mechanics in this area…read more I have been taking MBs and Lexis automobiles to Oliver for years (much more with the MBs, not so much the Lexis because, well, Lexis is better) and I have always been completely satisfied with the work. If anyone watches Holmes on Homes or any of the programs with Mike Holmes, you'll get this: Oliver Import Auto is the Mike Holmes of auto repair. Make it right. One example: my wife's RX-300's check engine light was on and she was due for an emissions check. She also needed some exhaust work. We tackled the exhaust first (Oliver sends out its exhaust pipe work) so we took it to a tire and muffler shop that will remain nameless (not recommending by Oliver). They assured us the exhaust issue triggered the check engine light and that they would take care of any other codes. $1900 and three trips to them later, the check engine light came back after a week. The unnamed shop them recommended changing the O2 sensor (I guess them missed that when they took care of all the codes) and I bought one and changed it. No joy. Check engine light still on. I took it to Oliver. We dropped it off the night before and by 4:00 the next day it was ready. Mike explained to me how the unnamed shop had botched the exhaust work by leaving a pin hole in a weld in an exhaust pipe right next to a sensor, so the sensor constantly returned error codes. He pointed out a few other things. He then asked if I changed the O2 sensor and I told him I had. He said that he found the old one in the engine compartment and put the old one back in because he tested it and it read more accurately than the replacement I had recently installed. The check engine light has remained off and it's been almost a year. It's that sort of attention to detail, pride in work, and genuine quality that I have uniformly experienced from Oliver that warrants my 5-star rating. One more thing. Last night I added wiper fluid to the reservoir and when I finished I closed the hood, but the main latch would not lock in and secure the hood. I had to be out of town the following morning and faced a 48-mile trip. I called Oliver and 15 minutes later I was in their shop. Ten minutes after that, the problem was fixed. No charge. Great people and I highly recommend them.

Hope the owner retired, I believe the guy with the Diamond earring name was Ron, years ago I paid…read moreover $4,000 to fix my Mercedes and it broke down 2 weeks later. Of course, they wanted More money to fix it.
