Be Careful at Velasquez Chicago Heights -- Dishonest Diagnostic Practices I went to Velasquez in Chicago Heights because my car's check engine light was on. AutoZone told me it was the catalytic converter, so I purchased the correct one and brought it in for installation. After inspection, they told me my catalytic converter was in good condition and that the issue was the three flex pipes, which I paid $450 to replace. A few days later, the same problem returned -- same noise, same check engine light. When I went back, the same shop told me now it's the catalytic converter after all, even though I was told to return the one I had already purchased based on their advice. I ended up paying for unnecessary repairs, return shipping, and now they're asking for another $350 to fix what I initially came in for. This experience was disappointing and felt misleading. As a Black woman, it's disheartening to constantly feel taken advantage of in car repair spaces. Please double-check diagnostics before agreeing to costly repairs and get a second opinion. This is the worst customer service experience I've ever encountered. I got a full brake job done on my vehicle. Not only did they damage my undercarriage by jacking the car up incorrectly, my rear brakes began squeaking within 3 weeks. Worst of all, my car lost control on the expressway because they did not put at least one of brake calipers on correctly or fasten it appropriately. Luckily, no one was physically hurt in this incident besides my vehicle as it essentially lost one of its 4 limbs. When approaching the company about this terrible incident, they claimed absolutely no responsibility and refused to look at the vehicle. I wouldn't trust them to put air in my tires. On August 21st my daughter took her 2002 Chevy Prism to this shop. The engine made a loud sound upon starting. (No ENGINE LIGHT was ever on in this car) Once it was inspected, she was told that several things in her exhaust needed to be replaced including an O2 Sensor. They claim that they couldn't screw off the SENSOR due to it being rusty. So the front pipe, springs kit, labor and sensor all needed to be done. Well I wanted a second opinion. So we took it to Scott's U Save on Chicago road in Chicago heights. They said they were able to replace everything except the O2 SENSOR because it was fine and it was fairly easy to UNSCREW. Now her engine light is on due to this SENSOR bullshit your shop VELASQUEZ did. I will not return here because you guys are fûcking Ripoffs!! read more

I needed A new steering column, they gave me 2 prices one with a receipt and one without a receipt that was much cheaper. I opt for the really cheap price with no receipt. I got the car back and the steering wheel was upside down, they did not align the wheel and offered to fix it for another price when every knows if you change out the steering column you have to align it again. Needless to say by them not offering a receipt for work done, someone is pocketing the money and not reporting it to the IRS. The city of Chicago Heights should really crack down on all these crooks. I took my car here just to get a thermostat changed, after the thermostat was changed my car all of sudden didn't start anymore on its own and when they jumped my car and I tried to drive it home I didn't get any acceleration in DRIVE...remind you nothing was wrong with my car when I brought it to them it started right up everyday with no hesitation and I never had a acceleration problem until then...they swore up and down that they re looked over everything and couldn't find the problem they made...they held my car for a extra day to try and fix they're mistake and could not fix it so they towed my car home just to get it out of there shop now my car will not start at all read more

I can't speak for anyone else but I have had nothing but problems from this establishment. Paid for 2 converters and flex pipe to be replaced work was done but was shoddy at best. Converter wasn't mounted correctly and check engine light was on almost immediately after install and stayed on. After multiple trips back and forth wasting my time and gas for warranty work (after going to dealer and paying 150 for diagnostic) i finally got another converter and put on correctly but engine light still on. I recommended 02 sensor bad and need replaced but he said no it was fine. Went to another shop and that code for bad sensor pulled up immediately and when replaced problem fixed. Valasquez was adamant it was not 02 cause their diagnostic wasn't saying it was bad. Don't even get me started on my other vehicle I took there to have worked on smh... Service provided was subpar. I had my front rotors, brakes, and calibers replaced on the front of my car. Within a few days I started experiencing the exact same noise, I brought the car back because the repairs were under a 90 day warranty. I was told there is nothing wrong with the brakes but I needed Quick Struts, a control arm and shocks. I was given a written price of what these services will cost. Needless to say, I arrived a week later to get the above repairs completed and the written cost was not honoured and the price doubled so I only got the quick struts replaced. (But he told a guy that bring that paper back to get the price) I decided to take the car to another mechanic and after a thorough check, I was told that the only issue I currently have, is that the hardware was missing to secure the brakes. Once that is complete bring it back to us if you continue to hear noise. My boyfriend took his car in for an inspection. Instead of looking under the hood at all, the shop just did a diagnostic code check (the same thing you can get at autozone for free) and charged him $25 After taking the car home, my boyfriend realized that he got cheated out of $25 and he called the shop back, spoke to the manager Reginald and asked if he could get an old change for the $25 he paid because the shop didn't do anything. The manager was reluctant, but agreed. He dropped his car off at 8am, called at about noon to check the progress, it still wasn't done. Went up at 5 and was told the oil change was NOT done and he needs a new radiator. No one called and told him this, plus there was no reason for them not to do what he brought the car in for. The worker did write notes on his receipt...but they were in Spanish and no hablo Espanol homie. I normally go here for the oil change special; but I had never had my vehicle serviced here otherwise. Last week, my brakes started squeaking; so yesterday I took my car in for an inspection. I really respect Velasquez and Sons for being honest and telling me that my brakes were fine--that I just needed brake pad adjustments. A lot of mechanic shops would've have taken advantage of my lack of knowledge about cars. The best part is that they only charged me a VERY, affordable fee for the minor adjustments! The absolute worst experience I've had!! These people had my car for over a month. When I was told it would only be a few days... They were supposed to fix three things... ABS Sensor, find out why my car was lacking heat, and balance the tires I bought from them! I spent $2600 having to rent a car for all that time... Only to get my csr back and NOTHING is fixed! After being told everything was fixed...I was initially charged for the ABS problem when I bought brand new tires from them... The customer service in this place is horrible, (accept the front desk ladies). The managers are liars, saying they will call you back with updates and NEVER call... I had to keep calling every week to see if there was any progress... They just kept saying yes they were working on it... read more

I've come here many times with minimal issues but recently their minimal issues have doubled. They have a sign up that says 1 hour wait for an oil change. That's fine but when you have been waiting for two to three hours and they are just now getting to your car without any information for you it becomes a problem. They need better communication and customer service. read more

I received terrible service. My car was fine just needed struts and ever since I have had additional issues. Then when I attempted to resolve it with the owner he tells me why I am angry and they did me a favor adjusting something that had nothing to do with the previous repair. I received service their in January. They changed my serpentine belt after telling me that it needed to be changed. In September I was in Alabama and my car came to a halt on the expressway. When I was towed to a repair shop they informed that my serpentine belt had completely fallen off. I promptly called Velazquez and Sons to request a refund on their service and/or the belt seeing as I have all the receipts and the original belt. I was the owner would be informed and they would get back to me. No one has contacted me yet. They do not value your safety or your loyalty as a customer. A serpentine belt should need to be replaced in 7 months time. Either they do faulty work or they gave me a faulty part. They have not returned my call. DO NOT TRUST THEM. You don't want to be stuck on the side of the road like me. I wish I could give them 0 stars that was frightening not knowing what was wrong and disheartening to learn that it was something I repaired just a short while ago. read more

THEY USE COMPRESSION FITTINGS ON BRAKE LINES!! TERRIBLE SERVICE!! I recently took My Vehicle to Velasquez and Sons Auto Repair Shop located at 640 W 14th Pl Chicago Heights, IL. to get a tune up. After they were done with the tune up I go to get in My Vehicle to go home, My Brake Pedal is going to the floor I didn't bring it in like this, so I go back and tell them the problem they tell me it was like that when they pulled it in, clearly it wasn't. So now My Vehicle is NOT drivable after I just paid them $450 for the tune up. I have to have them fix this new problem cause I need my vehicle, they told me that My Brake lines needed to be replaced because they were rusted out so I agreed to have them fix that. A few days later a friend of mine looks under my hood and noticed a wire unplugged he plugged it up and my brake light came on, they left it like that because they couldn't get the light off, he also noticed that they used "Compression Fittings" on My Brake Lines. They simply cut out the bad parts and connected new lines to the old lines. Paying $625 I should have all new lines not mixed with old ones and no Compression Fittings this is a "Patch Job" a "Temporary Fix" and is illegal in some states because it's not safe. I took it back to inform The Manager, he told me nothing is wrong with My Brakes and that every shop uses Compression Fittings on brake lines, clearly they don't, using Compression Fittings on brake lines is not safe. They endangered my safety this place is bad for business don't go here. read more

Horrible service. Inefficient and unorganized. Dropped my car off at 10:30 and was told it would take 3-4 hours. Came back after 4 hours and my car was still in the same spot it was left in. I brought my car in because someone stole a part and they said they can fix it. I got my car back and it was making a screaming screeching sound. I told them about it and they said it was making that noise before we brought it in. Don't u think that they would have said something before hand if this was true. They just so happened to not mention it until we literally pulled off and went right back. They would not take it back and I paid another mechanic to finish the work. He explained that the belt was covered in so much oil and junk that it made a screeching sound. He cleaned the belt and we were good to go. DONT TRUST VALASQUEZ AT ALL!!!! They replaced my brake pads and didn't bother to check my roters, and when I took the car back because it was still squeaking their response was it's probably your roters. This business was recommended to me a couple times. When I needed work done their price was too high but I've still kept them in mind. I went to them for air in my tires and was told they only give you air when getting service. Nothing more. I would have paid if given the option, but was sent away in the cold. It's 2 degrees and the cold is making the tires lose air. I went to them because Firestone in Homewood wouldn't fit me in. I really don't understand the level of customer service, especially considering that this is a smaller company. After this do they think I'd ever come back for service? read more
