By me not being a mechanic, I wasn't sure if they did a good job or not, but I was sure that they made me feel good about spending that kind of money. Even while waiting one day, another customer made the point to assure me that these guys know their stuff. Nick and his team (including the dog*) are very friendly, knowledgeable, and timely. The thing I appreciate most is that he remembers my name and the work done on my vehicle. That's impressive seeing as how I have only come in there three or four times in the past three years. Anyway, long story short, I reluctantly recommend Imperial (the more people know about it, the more business they'll get, and the harder it'll become to get my vehicle serviced quickly! lol). These guys are great! * If you're afraid of dogs, please don't be alarmed by the dog. He is so quiet behind the desk that you'll never know he's back there until you see him or Nick talks to him.

Last week, my brakes started squeaking; so yesterday I took my car in for an inspection. I really respect Velasquez and Sons for being honest and telling me that my brakes were fine--that I just needed brake pad adjustments. A lot of mechanic shops would've have taken advantage of my lack of knowledge about cars. The best part is that they only charged me a VERY, affordable fee for the minor adjustments! Velasquez and Sons is awesome.

Be Careful at Velasquez Chicago Heights -- Dishonest Diagnostic Practices…read more I went to Velasquez in Chicago Heights because my car's check engine light was on. AutoZone told me it was the catalytic converter, so I purchased the correct one and brought it in for installation. After inspection, they told me my catalytic converter was in good condition and that the issue was the three flex pipes, which I paid $450 to replace. A few days later, the same problem returned -- same noise, same check engine light. When I went back, the same shop told me now it's the catalytic converter after all, even though I was told to return the one I had already purchased based on their advice. I ended up paying for unnecessary repairs, return shipping, and now they're asking for another $350 to fix what I initially came in for. This experience was disappointing and felt misleading. As a Black woman, it's disheartening to constantly feel taken advantage of in car repair spaces. Please double-check diagnostics before agreeing to costly repairs and get a second opinion. Honest service matters.
