We were really excited to try this place. Hoping for a great breakfast in Vancouver. Lots of cars parked on the street by Syrup Trap. Walked in. Only one table was occupied. Ordered waffles and mine with bacon on the side. Waffle was dry, had to cut it with a knife and fork. Bacon was awful. Very thin and about 4 inches long. Prices seemed high. About to a quarter to one third of a waffle. Counter person messed up our order. Coffee was good. read more

Delicious! The gluten free waffle is awesome and every flavor we've tried has been great. The balance of waffle and amount/combo of ingredients is perfect. Such a small and cute little shop. Always tends to get packed quickly during the meal times so I try to go a little more at the "off times". I have only ever had liege waffles from here so I have no others to compare with but they are very good. I love the variations you can get and they are very filling. The syrup costs extra (I guess that is why they call it a trap) haha. but the syrup is very different from "normal" syrup and is not overly sweet which is good because it would overwhelm the already sweet waffles. I really like the Couve waffles as it offered savory and sweet together but I have had the JG2 and the Elvis and all have been great. Overall, it is a nice change from every day "breakfast food". read more

Best. Waffles. I love when Vancouver gets a new shop that will blow everyone out of the water. These guys know what they are good at. The interior is bright and lovely for a happy morning atmosphere, staff is sweet and helpful, waffles and coffee were delicious. I love a place that's family friendly/casual. Not taking themselves too seriously just serving up great food and local coffee. AND I don't have to wait in line with the pdx hipsters unintentionally photobombing their Instagrams while just trying to have breakfast with my family. Win. I don't think you're going to find better waffles in Vancouver than at syrup trap. On top of that they serve great coffee!

I ordered the JG^2 (lemon and blueberry) and a vanilla latte. The waffle was decent, but not the best Belgian waffle I've ever had. The latte was too sweet, and I ordered it "for here" but the barista made it "to go." Overall, I would come back for the food, mainly because it is the only Belgian waffle place in Vancouver, but the service/accommodations were pretty bad. I brought my laptop and textbook to do some homework, only to find out that there is no wifi!! I also tried plugging my laptop into the wall to charge it, and one of the employees made me unplug it just in case people tripped. However, I was the only customer in the store for over an hour, so I am not sure who would be tripping! Based on the unwelcoming environment, I can see why they had no customers. Lastly, there is no public restroom. I ended up leaving much earlier than I wanted because I couldn't do my homework, my laptop died, and I needed to use the restroom! I would much rather go to a more student-friendly cafe or waffle restaurant in Portland. read more

This place is the best! I go there almost every Sunday since I found it. They make liege waffles which means they use dough instead of batter and they're sweeter so you really don't need syrup. I usually get the mojo jojo but they have alternating specials depending on the season that have all been pretty tasty, like the Swanson Sammy which tastes like a 5 star mcgriddle. The staff are all incredibly nice and really care about the customers and the prices are great. read more

The place was packed when I came in with my two toddlers. There was a large group of seniors that were taking up most of the table space in the shop and VERY LOUD, like it's their own private party or something. it's a very small restaurant. There was only one table available or tall stools at the window. My kids can't sit on a stool. While I hesitated for a second on whether or not it was seat yourself, the group of 5 behind me went ahead and stole the table from me, I turned around and no where to sit. Another couple took pity and got up to give me their table, but it's buss your own table and I had to wait while they bussed, so meanwhile now like 10 people that came after me have ordered before me. The wait was so long my kids had a hard time waiting. I was sitting right next to the kitchen and never heard the waiter call my name. I see him though going table to table with our order and asking what they ordered, but he keeps walking right by me. I finally go up and ask "excuse me, could that be our order?" He asked the name on the order and then BERATED me that he had been calling my name over and over. I was embarrassed and already upset about the earlier table thing, I said I never heard him call me. Instead of just telling me "oh, this is your order!" like a decent person would, he continued to berate me and then TOUCHED my shoulder as he was a condescending to me, until a lady next to me told him she was standing there the whole time and it's very loud in here and never heard it either. (I'm waiting for him to hand me the food but it's more important to him that he tells me off I guess.) The lady ended up stopping by to chat with me and the kids later and wished us a nice weekend, she was embarrassed for us at the waiter's behavior. Over all, the waffles were just okay, same thing you could make at home. The coffee was great. The service was lousy and I left almost in tears, I couldn't wait to get out of there. The people that stole my table by the way didn't even buss their own and left it for the next guests to do for them, of course, who ended up being the nice lady who talked to me! That's how long it took to get our order, a table of 5 had eaten and gone before my two waffles came out. They should put up a sign that says order before seating. They should find a better way to track who ordered what so the waiter doesn't have to shout over a loud din. They definitely should put up a sign that says buss your own table, and they should move the bussing station away from where the water stations is so you're not having to stand there with your plate while someone gets water, coffee tops and silverware. And they should get a waiter that knows when to say "here you go!" instead of berating a mom with two small kids who was just trying to do something fun on a Sunday. the irony is I never take my kids out myself but I talked up myself that I CAN do this, it's going to be okay! except it wasn't. Thankful for the two kind people that made it a little better. I was happy to find a place open on Sunday in Vancouver, there are so few. We will not be back. read more
