Sushi sampler!
Laura B.

I'm newer to liking sushi and I've heard about Syringa but never tried it until this past week, and now I'll definitely be back. I loved that I could try a sampler plate although I wish it came labeled so I knew what I had and could get them again. Loved the vibe inside the restaurant too! Service was great - so fast, and I guess we got lucky because we didn't have to wait for a table.

Monarch ramen
Jordan A.

Came here for a date night and it did not disappoint. The monarch noodles are slightly bland (it's just ramen in miso broth) but the gyoza and eggs had a ton of flavor. My California rolls were delicious! My boyfriend literally couldn't stop saying how "OMG delicious" his food was. We both ate more than we expected or could honestly we will def be coming back

Pro sushi assortment
Tatiana L.

Our waiter was super friendly and the place has a comfy kind of vibe. The food on the other hand was subpar. The yellowtail collar was very good and just perfect all around. The sushi itself, was lackluster. The rice they use tastes very plain, like no rice vinegar, which is the norm at pretty much every sushi establishment. The fish itself wasn't very fresh either. Overall, I won't be coming to this restaurant again just because the sushi was not as expected.

Hamachi Kama (small plates)
Jennifer T.

It's really depends what you are ordering. My personal favorite is the hamachi Kama and the scallops. I wouldn't recommend ordering the high end stuff like uni- sea urchin and Kani- crab but the small plates are yummy. If you love noodles, the yakiudon is pretty good.

Interior

I wanted to try Syringa out while I was in Coeur d'Alene. From the outside this place looks promising with free parking and a really well decorated interior. We were attended to within a few minutes and we're seated at a booth. For 3:00 p.m. meal, it was actually quite busy inside. Given that this is a *Japanese* Cafe and sushi bar I assumed that most, if not all, of the decoration would be Japanese-related. However, there were some interesting pictures of cabins and American Western-inspired decor around the booth. Maybe I'm just picky but this to me shows a lack of attention and it does not go well with the theme of the restaurant. We ordered the edamame appetizer and a couple of rolls of sushi. The edamame came pretty quickly. It was salted and served with roasted garlic. Nothing very special about it flavor-wise, but the portion size is quite big which is nice. The sushi on the other hand was very disappointing the fish did not taste very fresh to me. The rolls were cut unevenly; some were very thick (almost like squares) and some were very thin. The rice was smushy and fell apart. Each roll had 7-8 small pieces. Given that each roll cost $10-14, which means each piece was $1.5 to $2, the rolls are absolutely not worth the price. It might have been just the rolls that we happen to order that are like this but this is not a good first impression for me. I would not return for the sushi. My friend got the Oyako don, which was chicken but did not like the lack of flavor and the presentation. I wanted to like this place given the good reviews and pictures on Yelp, but was disappointed. I am sure the staff are hard-working and mean the best, but I would not recommend Syringa.

Food: 5/5 (from the veggie options) Interior: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Drinks: NA Value: 4.5 OVERALL: 4.6/5 We came just as it was getting busy, but we're seated quickly. Our server was on it, fast and friendly! We ordered all veggie items so I can't speak on the quality of most the sushi, but the veggie roll we had was delish. We ordered the Tofu Bento which is well worth the price since you get so many components. An appetizer, 1 roll, and the bento was plenty of food for the two of us. Overall, a great experience and will be back,

They could've smiled and said kampai or been a little bit more engaging, but they were basically making sushi in world oblivious to us. We were greeted and sat immediately with menus. We got hot tea while we looked over the menu. I noticed right away they had lots of options and many rolls to choose from--even the pickiest of eaters are sure to find something! For appetizers, we ordered edamame and Rock Shrimp. Edamame was perfectly salted and warm. The tempura fry on the Rock Shrimp was spot on. The yum yum sauce was decent but lacked flavor and season imo..may have been too much mayo in this batch but all good, because the shrimp was amazing all by itself. The tempura was nice and airy and the shrimp was still juicy and tender. For entrees, my roommate ordered the Chicken Katsu and his mom and I feasted on the Sushi & Sashimi for 2, which comes with 10 pieces of sushi, 15 pieces of sashimi, chef's special choice roll, and subbed our Tempura shrimp roll for a Rock n Roll. Man oh man! When the sushi arrived, it was presented beautifully and truly looked like art. Not to mention, it was SO DELICIOUS! Every piece and every bite was amazingly fresh. Hats off to the sushi chefs for doing a fabulous job. The ratio of fish to rice was on point! My roommate said the Chicken Katsu had a good cook to it and that he really liked the sauce it came with. Unfortunately I did not get our servers name and not so sure she had a name tag on. However, she was patient with us in regards to when we ordered and attentive throughout the meal. We came at a good time as the restaurant filled up by the time we left. I will definitely be back for more sashimi!

Once we sat down our server "Captain Jack" Asked what we would like to drink, I asked for hot green tea, my husband was asking what type of sake was unfiltered he pointed to the menu and said those are all unfiltered, I asked if he had any recommendations, he just stood there. I then asked if they do flights of sake, and he said no. This guy had the personality of a tabletop. After we got our drinks, the server asked what we would like, I asked if they slice their fish this or thick, because I prefer thin instead of huge chunks of fish. I mentioned to him I prefer thin, thinking he would tell his chef. We started with potstickers and when he brought it, he never offered side plates, I finally had to ask the hostess, and she kindly brought some over. then the server brought our sashimi dish and with a deep breath then described what type of fish was on the plate. first of all, I thought we were being punked. It was like I asked that server for huge chunks of fish. It was at least half an inch thick. So bad. The sashimi I ordered was supposed to come with a salad or miso soup, which wasn't brought. I finally had to flag him down even though there was only 2 other people in the whole place. Not once did he come to check on us to see how things were. This "Captain Jack" has no business being a server in any restaurant, it was by far the worst experience I have had ever in a restaurant. I would not recommend this place for sushi, and if your server happens to be "Captain Jack"...shit, Run!!

I can't remember our server's name but she had a nice deep theatrical voice and wore glasses and took such great care of us. She was lovely. When you first pull up to the restaurant, you couldn't expect the amount of detail and pride that we discovered inside. The local artwork throughout the restaurant was not to be missed as well as the owner's welding skills are to be appreciated. We met Robbie at the end of our visit and got a tour of his place. Such a cool story and restaurant to know. Food -- I loved my entire meal and was so glad I didn't have to share halvsies like we usually do! The pear truffle salad was amazing. I wish I got the recipe. The filet was done to perfection. I usually don't love a lot of sauce on my steak but I loved what came on mine. I forced myself to finish my steak as full as I was. I just knew it wouldn't be as perfect and it was so good and cooked perfectly medium rare. Dessert was a nice treat and just the right size and way to end the evening. The pictures don't do justice to how wonderful and cozy this place is. Thank you for a memorable evening and delicious meal. We will definitely recommend to our friends and visit again when we are back in the area!

The halibut entree was so yummy, with such interesting combination of flavors that all went so well, even though I would never think of putting half of them together. Our server helped us choose a bottle of red wine that would accompany my fish and my husband's steak, and it was a great recommendation. Dessert was the Turtle cheesecake, and was creamy, dense, and not overly sweet (which I like so that I can enjoy the whole thing!). The Ambiance This is the second time my husband and I have celebrated an anniversary at Satay, and it continues to be such an enjoyable place and experience for an intimate upscale dinner together. The Service Grace was our server, and it made all the difference. She was knowledgeable, respectful, affable, and I could tell she loves her work. She also did a phenomenal job of subtly and gently leading us in particulars of etiquette without being obvious or condescending. Working in fine dining is a delicate profession no matter where one is, so kudos to you, Grace, for doing it smoothly and graciously. Thank you again, Satay, for an exquisite evening.

Today's visit was no different and was deliciously fresh and yummy. I planned on getting a poke bowl and when I walked in, one of the specials of the day was a wasabi ahi tuna poke bowl...cha-ching! That's exactly what I got and with a side order of 2 crab cakes. The wasabi ahi tuna poke bowl was simple and fresh, yet packed with ahi tuna and the perfect amount of rice. Poke bowls are my go-to for a protein packed meal that's healthy and leaves me feeling full. Now the crab cakes!? If you've never tried them from here and you're a crab cake lover, then do yourself a favor and order some. They were perfectly cooked with a crisp outside and stuffed with a good amount of tasty fresh crab. The 2 sauces of my choice to go with the cakes are: traditional tarter sauce and then take your lemon slice and squeeze the juice on top and mix it in and the Cajun tarter sauce--it has great flavor with a little bit of spice. My pics don't do justice--the flavor is where it's at! My roommate got his favorite Shrimp Po Boy Sandwich with fries and he was a happy camper. I will say, their fries are authentic and actually taste like real potato. We arrived at lunch hour and the ambiance was definitely busy, which is normal. Service was great and food came out fairly quick. Every employee I saw stayed busy, either helping people, cleaning, or chef'ing it up.
