We've been here several times, only because the people are very friendly, and the food was very good. The noodles are almost addicting! I always like to support small businesses, and still go there occasionally. But the down side is the cleanliness of the place- or lack there of. The floors were sticky, and so were the tables. The whole place needs a good cleaning, I don't want to know what the kitchen looks like. When we pulled up there is a sandwich board outside of the door saying "Dr Lee's Korean..." and the business cards inside said Shogun off to the side? Anyway, the sesame chicken is weak. There wasn't much flavor to it at all, or crunch, usually I can only eat a few pieces at a time because the spice is spicin' but this was not that. It was extremely mild. The only reason that I am giving this place 2 stars is because the lady working the counter was nice. The place was dirty, the food was not great, and we were the only people in the place and it still took upwards of 30 minutes for us to get our food. If the food would have been good, the wait would have been bearable. But it just wasn't. Really gross honestly. read more

I went here 1 time. My food was microwaved. Soup was microwaved in plastic container. The chicken tasted like iron or blood. It was that pre grilled frozen chicken from costco I think. Ordered tofu pad Thai 30 minutes from getting to the restaurant. Was told it would take 20min to prepare so it was perfect. As I arrived, the cook had gloves on and was adding fried eggs and peanuts and a slice of lime. It was meticulously put together. It was not your usual Thai style pad Thai but more like stir fry thin rice noodles. It was very tasty. I would be back but make sure you are not in a rush. read more

Oof. It's so sad because this used to be one of my favorites but it's really gone downhill. I ordered take out tonight and was told it would be 10 minutes. We get there in about fifteen and I'm told it's "almost" ready. No biggie, but it's weird because not a single burner is going. I stood there for another fifteen and nothing is being cooked at all, but I can hear the microwave being opened and closed and beeping. When I was finally told after 30 minutes that the food was ready, I asked if it had been microwaved, I was told yes, because it had gotten cold?? I'm sorry, but how do you pay $20 a plate and wait 30 minutes for microwaved food?? It always used to be made fresh and now...prices are up, food safety is down. Very disappointing. read more

Two uneaten Teriyaki lunch specials are in the garbage in my husband's hospital room. I found Kay's online and was delighted with its proximity from Holy Family hospital. We used to enjoy Teriyaki chicken in Western Washington where it's easy to find a restaurant specializing in the dish. But with his appetite finally returning post-surgery, I was happy to satisfy his craving so off I went. The restaurant was cafeteria-like, worn tables & chairs, door open, no customers in sight and no employees. Still with their website on my screen, I found the business phone number and called it. A custom ring began chiming nearby and a lovely Asian woman of perhaps 70 appeared as I ended the call. There was kindness and mutual respect as I ordered the two meals, and found a seat to wait for the order while a young man mopped the floor. There was a language barrier with the lovely elder and in search of gently navigating I disregarded need of accuracy in the change given. It was close enough. I didn't open the meals until bringing them into the hospital room. There were no vegetables, no cucumber, nothing fresh or light to counter the savory components. The chicken was a strange consistency/bite and the Teriyaki sauce may well have served as disguise for less than fresh chicken. We tried a couple bites finding it rubbery, every taste making us question the quality and if the shelf life of the chicken had been exceeded. We realized it was a dead end. Such a small storefront would likely be disinclined to offer refund so we considered it a lesson learned and discarded in the hospital room trash. The woman was truly lovely, but this was a most unfortunate purchase. read more

We finally broke down and came and tried out Kays Teriyaki in Spokane. The inside Is a little dated but that's ok we got this egg drop soup and was it ever good and not pictured but we also got egg rolls and they were very food and I got teriyaki chicken and chicken yakisoba combo and it was ok. Many people do like coming here and it was about the same as a few other places but what stood out was the soup and egg rolls. So far the restaurant in Poulsbo WA. Was still the best Asian place I've been too so if you're going to be in Spokane head on down to Kay's and try it out they have a huge selection and you'll love the soup and egg rolls read more

Well, first time ordering from this place and went to pick up the food, which was ready a bit early. Went home and realized they didn't include the tofu pad thai with vegetables in my order. Called them and they said it was there and to come back to pick it up. So I went right back and asked for the left out pad thai that I had already paid for. I was given a bag and assured it was the right order. Get home and find out it's chicken pad thai with no vegetables. By this time they were closed and I wasn't going back a third time. I tried to eat it but it was just OK and the rest of the meal had to be reheated. Trying to support local family businesses but this experience wasn't great. read more

Kay's is the teriyaki food I have eaten in Spokane. Everything is fresh. The chicken teriyaki melts in your mouth. I love that the meals come with soup and a salad. And the rice is cooked too perfection. I also get an egg roll with every order when I go there. The old owners were amazing, but ever since they moved back to Vietnam, I believe, the food has gone from the best Teriyaki in town, to the worst I've had anywhere. Looked to be one maybe two others doing the cooking. I witnessed a few others waiting for take out and a couple more come in for pick up orders so people must either like it or tolerate it because it kind of stands alone in the neighborhood it's in. Even the a homeless woman who had saved enough change came in for a meal but overall, I was pretty dissatisfied with my choice to have lunch here. I ordered a combo of teriyaki chicken and sesame chicken. It came with rice that looked like fried rice but had not color like steamed rice. A ton of it though that I didn't finish. I was also treated to a cup of egg drop soup that was super salty. Salty like they use ocean water as an ingredient and then salad and eggroll. The first thing I noticed about the chicken is that they use breast meat instead of thigh. This makes the chicken more dried out and tasteless. The sesame chicken was very greasy and although the crunch was there, the bath of sesame oil was a bit overwhelming. I powered through my meal as I was half way through my 10 hour drive and had just stopped to fuel my body but that was the one and only time that I'll be stopping at Kay's for the unseen future. if you're in the mood for some teriyaki, I'd recommend you keep looking. read more

I picked up a regular order of two entrees with rice and noodles to share with my husband. I have seen so many great reviews of this restaurant so we wanted to try it. I chose chicken teriyaki and almond chicken. The rice was yellowish, not sure why but it was ok. The chow Mein noodles were very short which I've not seen before but it had good flavor. The teriyaki chicken was freshly grilled and came with a great sauce on the side, the almond chicken wmedium sized cubes of fried chicken covered with a flavorful sauce. I especially liked the almond chicken and the teriyaki chicken. My husband was less enthusiastic about the food but we have lots of great teriyaki in Seattle so maybe it's unfair to compare. There was just one group (2 women with 3 kids) eating at the table. There were 4 people waiting for their take out order. So, ambiance - none.
