    Dinner!

Ok, we used to go to Le Brothers and were a little bummed they closed. We've driven by this place several times and wondered... Well we now know this place is 100% AMAZING. The owner serves, answers the phone, and maybe a little bit of everything else, but the food for our pickup was ready on queue and the flavors were off the charts. It makes me wonder about that random 1 star review. I digress... the place pretty much still looks like Le Brothers, and being in a strip center with a skinny parking lot has its disadvantages on a busy night but do yourself a favor and check this joint out!

I have eaten here now 4 times since their soft opening and have not been disappointed once. I caution that you need to be prepared for a longer wait than other restaurants, but this isn't a bad thing because your dish is being prepared fresh just for you! The first thing I try at any Thai restaurant is their Tom Kha and finally since moving to Washington have I found one that I truly enjoy besides the one I make myself. Everything I have eaten here has been great. My one complaint, which is with most places, the spice level never comes out as spicy as I would like.

They may have moved locations but they are not new to the Spokane Food Scene, their cuisine reflects that! The Song Lan Thai Restaurant is a Small local business is family owned & operated. I was heart broken when they closed their northside location & I missed having them so close but relieved they are still in Spokane to get my fix when needed. Finally made it into their new location. The food is mouth watering & the service is beyond spectacular. I've always ordered my favorite Stir-Fry Pad See Ew. I always skip the carrots, so usually that is included in the dish. It was just as I remembered. The fried spring rolls were cooked to crispy perfection. Check this place out, you won't be disappointed!

She remembered details from earlier in the conversation, kept the energy upbeat, and handled a small mix-up with our order with total grace and a smile. That kind of poise is rare. We had a group of eight and there was a lot of "not ready yet" which the staff handled with ease. Food came out quickly but mostly all at the same time. We had a few items that came out later but it was reasonable and expected. Ambiance is very nice, simple but elegant. You would feel comfortable coming in dressed up or casual. Let's get to the nitty gritty, the food quality was very good, taste was a knock out. The pasta and sauce was good enough that I was looking for specific tastes so I could recreate it, that's what I hope for in a restaurant! And there was fresh bread, oh how I could wax poetic about fresh bread and so few restaurants are on this very simple add. Dessert - I'm always hypercritical of crème brûle because like bread it's pretty simple ingredients but takes some care, Muzuna's nailed it. All in all you should stop in for dinner and you won't be disappointed!

Tonight two people of our party had pho and one said it was the best by far, and the other felt that our usual haunt in Hawaii was more to her liking. So much so, it will be a decent snack later on tomorrow in the form of leftovers. The service is what I want to also comment on. The staff was very welcoming and the food came out fast. Please also note that their "spring roll" is what most people call a summer roll. Their deep fried spring roll is called an "egg roll" on their menu so make sure you know what you want and order accordingly. All in all, it was a great experience and we will come back again on our next visit.

My wife ordered the Glass Noodle Salad (zero stars) and I had the Chicken Pad Thai (three stars). She enjoyed her salad, but the photo is accurate with only two shrimp in it. That does fit the literal description of the salad, but it would have been nice with a couple more. She had the ginger dressing instead of the 'spicy' one in the description and enjoyed it. My Pad Thai was fine, but it kind of had a burnt or overdone taste. I couldn't place it, but there was definitely something off. My three stars did not seem to hit me with any heat. Another letdown for us was that it took a long time for our food to come out, but they were putting a lot of food delivery orders out. It's frustrating that finite amount of people in the restaurant are delayed by a potentially unlimited amount of app orders. The prices were a bit higher than a couple of our favorite Thai places in Spokane.

We also ordered the pad see eew which, sadly, was very disappointing as it was primarily veggies with only an occasional chopped piece of noodle. Since it was a noodle dish it was crazy that there was probably a total of two chopped(!) wide flat noodles. Our server said they pre-portion it and we could add a side of noodles if we wanted more. Uh, no. We just had her take it back. We have ordered pad see eew many times at restaurants all over the US and never had such a tiny amount of noodles! It was vegetables and herbs and pork wrapped in rice paper. It was really refreshing and the sauces; peanut, sambal, and chili were so good! But they were 14 dollars and barely had any pork... The bao buns were good, the pork belly being really great. The bun itself was not great, but the sauce in the bao made up for it. But it was 12 DOLLARS for TWO small sized bao buns! The kalbi was tender and really nicely charred. The flavors were nice with a sweetness that paired well with the smoky flavor and was probably the best dish over all. The bombay chicken also had a really nice flavor, but was so dry it was nearly impossible to eat. I got the ko moo yang which is a marinated pork dish. The flavor wasn't exceptional - it was also dry. We did get sides; marinated greens, egg, radish, and noodles but the portions sizes for them were comically small. I swear there were 6 macaroni noodles. The Thai tea was overly sweet and this was mentioned-! they only had coconut milk and told us that but it was so chunky, a sort of curdle milke texture, it was hard to suck through the straw. Our service was very slow and a member of my party had mentioned that she didn't eat spicy food and so the server didn't bring over hot sauce for the rest of the party who do eat spicy? Plus it was very slow moving which was strange because there was no one there, like it took ten minutes for two drinks which were sodas. We arrived there around 3pm and left around 5pm. It didn't have interesting decor but the windows did allow a lot of natural light out. While I didn't pay attention two members of my party noticed that while the lobby was clean - the kitchen wasn't.
