Don't judge a book by its cover! While glamping in Coeur d'Alene The month of August, we were craving sushi and a friend of mine that lives there suggested this place. We pulled up to a brightly colored yellow cottage looking house. As I'm walking in with my wife who was quite hesitant, stating if I say leave we leave before we walked in. We were greeted well and only another couple were sitting at a table. We ordered a couple rolls and upon waiting seven other people appeared and sat down. The food was over the top delicious, better than any sushi I've had in Boise or Connecticut. This place is a must if you like. Sushi just call ahead and make sure they're open. read more

On a cold October evening my wife and I arrived to fill the last table at Little Kyoto. You can tell it's a family establishment and that they take pride in each plate they serve. The rolls are more moist than expected, quality rice with a superior filling ratio. We really enjoyed the seasonal ramen; the spice level was great for the cold outside. Will be back! read more

Definitely the food is made fresh. Pack your patience because it seemed to be a small family business- the dad makes the sushi, mom cooks/deep fries, son is the server. I support small businesses. Good for them. Very casual and chill. read more

So, when I was in the Orient, my friends who were local would take me to some amazing restaurants. A lot of the time, it would be an apartment or a house in the middle of some neighborhood without a sign or flashy entrance to let you know that it's a restaurant. You would just walk in, and there would be a couple tables, and some couple whipping out unbelievable food. Little Kyoto is like that. It's a house converted into a restaurant. For me, the menu had plenty of options. I looked for rolls that had some spice, and they did not disappoint. I and my friends flat out stuffed ourselves, and sampled about eight different rolls between the four of us. Each one was good. The service was quick and polite. We left happy. Food wasn't super impressive due to the quality of the fish. Maybe it's just because I have had years of experience with eating sushi & raw fish. This place is super small and the wait time for food took a little bit. Seemed like there was only two people working. Seating is limited & I would highly recommend calling ahead if you plan to check this place out read more

First time here and wont be going anywhere else. Best Sushi in North Idaho and believe me when I say we have tried them all.

The bad: Limited menu The good: amazing sushi, Nigiri, Teriyaki and rolls - best in the area!!! The ugly: limited hours and sometimes a little slow If you're lucky enough to visit when they're open M-Thursday then you will get amazing food. My favorite is sushi bento lunch with a volcano roll to share. read more

Best sushi in Nothern Idaho. Family owned. Great variety of rolls. Of them were amazing. Loved the Hawaiian. We've never had a roll like the Hawaiian before. We loved the smaller restaurant style. Definitely would recommend! We enjoyed waiting. Especially, because you know you're getting high quality fish! read more

Great service and Delicious food @ Little Kyoto in Hayden, ID. !! We had dinner during a week day and I'm glad to have run across this on Yelp because the curb appeal does not do it justice. Straight forward and quick service from gentlemen. We would have liked a fuller menu, but what we ordered was very delicious and full of flavor. Simple decor, clean, and tidy. We would dine here again for sure. read more

Most unpretentious sushi restaurant I've been in. Nice folks, easy-going, very basic. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing, going with just your basic rolls, and nothing fancy. I dined on a Tuesday night, the tuna was old, perhaps leftover from the weekend? The salmon was just OK. Nothing to celebrate here. Other orders looked good. Perhaps just wrong order on wrong day, but this was only as good as average supermarket sushi. I think this place can do better. read more

I was told this was the best sushi in town. Glad we tried it and I loved their to go options.

Always amazing food in a quaint little refurbished home on government Avenue in Hayden. The chef is the owner and his son is the waiter. Service is always consistent. If not a little bit slow because they are the only two working here. But the food is worth the wait. read more

Hours are basic. Open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.....lunch 11:30-1:30. Dinner 5- 7:30. 3 person restaurant. AMAZING FOOD! Dinner gets busy, we try to go a couple of times a month for lunch. I have had sushi all over, I will not order on vacation anymore, because Little Kyoto is so good! Prices are excellent for quality, owner David will not serve the fish if it's not fresh. read more

Come on in to the yellow house! This place for completely full by 12 pm. I had a quick lunch and it was great. Salted Edamame, friend calamari with sweet & sour sauce, and ahi tuna tower. My favorite was definitely the tower. It is catered to the community it serves. This place would not be a typical place I would go in So. California due to all the sauces on the rolls. It was a good experience! read more

I love this place. My son and wife too. Service is amazing as they've always gone beyond the call of duty to serve us in the two visits we've been here. The wait time for sushi is just what I would expect it to be, comparing it to other sushi restaurants. It takes about 10-15 minutes, but good sushi is always worth waiting for. And this is great sushi. They put the biggest and freshest pieces of fish on their sushi than any other place in the CDA area; and it tastes delicious! Because of all that, this is our new favorite sushi house. Our friend had told us this was their favorite sushi so we had to find out why. We were somewhat in disbelief that the best sushi in the CDA area was in North Hayden away from most other restaurants. But there you have it: the best sushi in the area. The place is clean and they have a TV which is currently always playing basketball, which is fine by me. Until football season. read more

Every roll was packed with flavor, and the fish was incredibly fresh. The creativity in the rolls made the whole experience fun, and I genuinely couldn't stop eating. Even when I was full, I kept going just because it was that good. Hands down the best sushi in the area. Now that we've tried it, we won't be going anywhere else! read more

This is the BEST sushi I have ever had in Idaho, and probably tops all other places I've eaten at in the pnw. Their teriyaki and beef bulgogi is so natural tasting, it's delicious. All of their food is cooked fresh to order, so although you might have to wait for the tables in front of you to get their food ... the wait is worth it!! It's a family restaurant so there are only 6 tables. Very clean and very great service. I recommend that you don't come starving, because it is a little bit of a wait, but don't ruin your appetite because you'll regret it once your food comes. They also do a nice job at bringing out any appetizers you ordered, out to you quickly. Amazing food, you have to try it! Our favorites are the crunch roll, the tuna roll, the ahi tuna tower, the volcano roll and the Hawaiian roll! The sauces on these are to die for!! read more

One of our favorite local places for dinner. The staff is friendly and the sushi is fantastic.

Great, great sushi! Best in CDA/Hayden A very intimate little place, the chef/owner super nice man and knows how to make some good sushi, I highly recommend, but they are often closed and rumors they may sell???? read more

Best sushi I've ever had. Fair priced, service Is solid but nothing special, the building is super clean and has a quaint little vibe inside. The ONLY downside to eating here is that if you're a prick and you decide to come in 20 to 5 minutes before close, they might turn you away, which is totally fair it's their business they can do what they want. Their hours in general are kinda weird but again it's their business they can close when they want. read more

Food is fabulous service is friendly and calming. Just love these powers. Family working together. Nice people and great food

Love the fresh sushi and amazing dishes. Be patient. This is a small restaurant. Worth the wait.

Their hours are so spontaneous. However, their food is delicious. We drive 25 min from Careywood to eat here, only to find 50% of the time they are closed when they post they are open. This Thursday they posted they were open, yet at 5:15 dark and closed. They do not answer their phone. The owners (Father son combo) are so nice and the father is the creative sushi roll maker. We have lived here for two years and understand that it's tough to work as two, got s hungry fan base. Their hours are minimal and they close at a whim. I'd give Kyoto 4+ - 5 stars for their rolls but it's becoming hard for us to continue to drive the distance only to be disappointed if they are closed. read more

I would argue that this is the best sushi restaurant in North Idaho! Coming from Los Angeles where the quality of food and options are abundant, we were so nervous we would never find a good sushi spot but we did! It's away from town and in this tiny house, I love everything about it! Menu is small and they do not make any substitutions but the fish is fresh and the rolls delicious I would get a couple ahi tuna stacks and sake and call it a day. Best thing on the menu by far read more

We have lived here in Idaho for the past five years. We love sushi and we have missed good sushi up until now. Little Kyoto is excellent! The service is wonderful. The chef is fantastic. From the outside it looks like a little house with a funky color. When you go inside, it's very clean, but quite small. But for being small, it's quite roomy and airy. They do not stack tables in there just for the sake of having more people come in. For them more is not necessarily what is best. There are two of them and they make this place flow. The food is some of the freshest I have ever had and I used to live on the coast. You can taste type of fish and their flavors just pop. I would highly recommend. We will be back, over and over. read more

The sushi rolls are very good but the restaurant is never open when it's supposed to be which makes It very frustrating.

We had a great experience here tonight. Ordered three special rolls and all of them are tasty. The best part though was the salmon and yellowtail nigiri. They don't offer them on the menu, but if you ask, the chef can make beautiful nigiri. The sashimi to rice ratio was just perfect. read more

This is a local hidden gem. The food is excellent, extremely fresh and delicious. The prices are super reasonable. Two of us shared an appetizer, two rolls, and an entree. Total price: $36.00. I have paid 3x that price elsewhere. Very clean, excellent service. At the writing of this review, they didn't have an active liquor license. Although small, you don't feel crowded between the tables. Pay attention, or you'll drive right by it - looks like a small well-kept house. read more

Love the sushi here. Always so good. Small eating area, and not always the fastest, but definitely worth the wait.

Great Suchi! Friendly service. Decent prices! I usually just get takeout but seating isn't bad.

Actually it should be four AND A HALF stars! The shrimp and veggie tempura was EXCELLENT, crunchy and variety of sweet potato green beans and yellow squash. Quite yummy! And the gyoza too was just as good. The service was very good too, appreciative BUT my first appetizer took at least 10 minutes after I ordered and I needed to b out of there when I actually got the rest of my meal. So, I was late for 1pm appointment. Nevertheless, it was worth it! Next time I'll go with more time on my hands. Very good job guys! read more

This is amazing. So far my favorite for sushi in the panhandle. Raw Dead Fish is also awesome but there was something about this sushi that was just too notch. My fiancé and I could taste every single ingredient individually, yet all together it made for the perfect meld of flavors. From previously trying to get seated around 7-7:30 on a Friday night, we were turned away because they were so busy - the place is small and there is only one gentleman making the rolls - we got there at 4:55 on a Friday and there were so many people rolling in that we were one of the last tables to be seated right away! Obviously a sign it is good if everyone is getting there right before they open to make sure they get a table. So just keep that in mind if you are going to try it out. The earlier the better. We tried three rolls and an appetizer to really get a feel for it: the fried stuffed mushrooms, the Cajun Fire Roll, the New Hawaiian, and the French Kiss. Each one was prepared excellently and the flavors were to die for but we decided that we could have eaten only the Cajun Fire Roll 12 times over just because we loved it so much. Ultimately, the staff is attentive and kind but definitely a bit awkward haha. The nice bus girl that was walking around just continually circled the 10 tables asking if anyone needed water... Non. Stop. Which was nice but also a bit annoying. I drink a ton of water but I can't drink that much water within 5 minutes girly. I'm thinking it's her first job so needless to say she is fine haha. I'm not the type to dock down for awko-taco service because it was still good. Overall, best sushi I have ever had. I'm in love. And I wish they had take out. And I wish they were open on the weekends. But Ce La Vie. I will be back for sure! read more
