Their pricing came in better than the others, and they also threw in a whole-home surge protector at no extra cost. I ended up going with a 12-panel, 5.28 kW system and have been really happy with it so far. I financed through Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union, and my monthly payment is actually lower than what the solar is offsetting on my electric bill, which was a big reason I decided to move forward. I'm also a PGE customer, so I qualified for a $3,500 Energy Trust of Oregon incentive that came right off the price. They also have a pretty solid referral program. It's $500 if someone you refer ends up going solar with them. Overall, it was a straightforward experience, no weird pressure, and I felt like I got a really good deal. I'd definitely recommend Smart Solar Energy to anyone around Portland looking into solar. -Colin

However, when the project was completed, the 19th panel was placed near the back of the house, which is shaded by tall fir trees. We could have gotten better results, albeit the difference is not particularly great. If they had installed the panels as we had indicated, I would give them 5 stars. As it is, during the summer months, we are producing enough electricity to send it back into the grid for a small credit on our PGE bill.

Previously, Purelight had done a "repair" that actually broke one of our microinverters and left 4 panels offline, leading to significant power loss and a big increase in our electrical bill, so we were pretty desperate for help with undoing the damage Purelight had done. A&R took over management of our Hoymiles instance (that's the app they need access to in order to make sure everything is working right and check on panel metrics), replaced our broken microinverter, and when a part was super late they graciously comped us for it. Excellent work, prompt service, and professional and polite techs and workers across the board. We will absolutely be using them when we convert to a generator/battery model within the next few months. Very highly recommended!

A and R sent their sales person to our house and he got right to work. He went into our crawl space under the roof to make sure our roof was properly supported for the panels. That was a relief as the other place wanted to send a structural engineer to do that very simple job and charge us for it. Ridiculous. Our project was two years, so the crew may be slightly different, but they were great. When there was an issue, like that we didn't have electrical grounding, they just put in grounding bars. Amazing! They offer production guarantees which is rare for a solar company, like those ones that come door to door. lol A and R was professional, easy to work with and easy to communicate with.
