We have been considering adding a solar system on our house for a few years and finally decided to bite the bullet this year.

Update following the company's response:…read more I want to clarify one point raised in the owner's reply so readers understand the concern accurately. Yes, I mentioned that I would prefer the panels be placed on the rear of the home if possible. That was simply an aesthetic preference and not a design requirement. I relied on the company's expertise to determine whether that placement would still allow the system to reasonably meet the goals discussed during the sales process. I also want to be clear that the system functioning is not the issue. We appear to agree that the equipment is producing energy as designed. The production numbers themselves have never been what I questioned. The concern I raised relates to how the system size and expectations were presented during the sales process. When we explored going solar, the conversations centered around offsetting most or all of our electric bill, which was the primary reason we decided to move forward with a $20,000 installation. If it had been clearly communicated that the system was intended to be a smaller "starter system" that would only offset a portion of our electricity usage, we likely would have approached the decision differently or waited until we had a longer utility history available. Another important point is that no written proposal or modeling documentation outlining the assumed household usage or projected offset was ever provided prior to signing. Because those design assumptions were never shared with us in writing, it has been difficult to understand how the system size was determined relative to our expected energy needs. As a result, we are now paying a monthly solar loan while still carrying a meaningful electric bill, which is not the outcome we understood or expected when making this investment. At this point, I have shared my experience and clarified the concerns raised. I do not intend to continue a public back-and-forth discussion on this review. My purpose in posting this update is simply to provide context so other homeowners researching solar know to request clear written modeling and offset assumptions before making a significant investment.

We ended up speaking with several of the big solar installers and another couple smaller ones. They all wanted us to take huge low interest loans to buy a lower quality system than what we got with Smart Solar Energy. Smart Solar Energy allowed is to choose the equipment we wanted at no extra cost, and the overall cost was less than half what many others were trying to sell us. The install was delayed by a day because of illness then some paperwork wasn't left requiring a few extra days during install, but other than that they were great to work with and I highly recommend Smart Solar Energy.

Elemental Energy has been outstanding in post customer care. In the eight years since I've had my system, I've only had two issues which were properly taken care of. The project manager in 2008 was absolutely awful. Poor communication and someone quit so my project got pushed to no-man zone- no one was taking care of my project or communicating clearly about what was going on. I didn't write a review in 2008 because I was upset about the process. However, eight years later, the install is absolutely fantastic and the product has held up really well. Plus the person who was so awful is likely gone so thinking you'll have a better experience than I did. I'm getting quotes on battery and they are the first person I called

Our house was built in the late 1960's. Which means that the outlet plugs and other components that were installed back then (over 50 years ago) have become brittle. Jostle them a bit and they can fracture. This happened to the circuit for the room on the other side of the Battery install. Apparently they jostled the wires running to one of those outlets and it fractured it, disabling that circuit. It being a guestroom, we didn't notice it right away. When we did, Elemental did not hesitate to step up. I would use Elemental Energy again if I needed any of their services in the future.

The owner, Chet, conducted an on-site assessment and was extremely honest and knowledgeable. Chris, the designer, was incredibly patient, explaining everything in detail and even reviewing other quotes I received, offering his candid feedback. I spoke with several leading providers in Portland, but Sunpath earned my trust through their transparency. Maggie, the project manager, was a delight and efficiently scheduled everything. The crew arrived early today and completed the installation before dawn, and I couldn't be happier! They did an outstanding job. Special thanks to Johnathan and Kordon, the lead installer, who explained everything thoroughly, and to the technician, Keven, for his excellent work. Enrique also misled us on PGE billing after installation (details below). Project team was helpful. Installation team was courteous and respectful. Overall comms were pretty messy. Our interaction with Ion Solar started in Nov'2022 with a D2D sales rep knocking on our door to pique our interest in solar. From there, we scheduled an appointment with their salesperson Enrique Guzman. Enrique showed up and presented us the "potential savings" of installing solar and how it will essentially pay for itself as it will offset our electric bill entirely. He also mentioned that we would be put on a 12-month billing cycle with PGE after installation. Neither of these points turned out to be true. I asked a good friend of mine if he would be interested in going in on solar together to see if we can get a better deal from Enrique. Enrique offered us each a $1,000 check and $300 Nike/HOKA gift cards to be sent upon installation if we signed up with him. We thought it was a good deal so we both signed up. Mind you, these incentives were verbal agreements; none of this was on paper. Fast forward to Jan'2023, panels are installed. My friend and I reached out to Enrique Guzman for the promised incentives and were both met with a short "yup on it". This went on for 30+ days. We would reach out to check on the progress of these incentives and Enrique would either send a "will these sent out ASAP" or straight up ghost us. Having been fed up, we reach out to Ion Solar corporate. Thomas Nevins hears our story and sends an email out to Enrique and cc'ing us both on it. Enrique Guzman responds to the email with a "yup on it". To our surprise, we received the $1,000 via Zelle a week later. However, the $300 Nike/HOKA gift cards were still nowhere to be found. At this point, we're 60+ days past installation and we were still missing the last half of our promised incentives. So I finally submitted my post-installation survey, giving them a score of 1/10. Enrique IMMEDIATELY responds by sending both my friend and I the promised $300 gift cards. Why did it have to take so long and so many different parties to get Enrique Guzman to fulfill his promise to us? Furthermore, why did he have to lie to us about the 12-month billing cycle? This was a complete bait-and-switch. Had we known that he was going to treat us like this after signing, we would NEVER have signed with Ion Solar. And to be honest, both my friend and I are struggling with buyer's remorse after this experience. We would NOT recommend Ion Solar.
