She did the exact color I was looking for on an acquaintance and they had passed her number along to me. After sending photos of my hair goals, hair inspiration and current hair we set an appointment for 15 February. The morning of the appointment at 0621 she texts to cancel due to illness. I was able to rebook it with her for 5 March, but again on the morning of the appointment she canceled due to lack of childcare. So, after waiting over a month for the appointment I was cancelled twice and did not make a priority to promptly rebook. She offered to talk with a coworker that was available before, which I stated was fine with me. This may have been naïve on my part, but I did assume she would only recommend someone of the same skill level. Cindy promptly reached out after Melissa and I spoke, and offered to book me that same week. I sent the exact photos from Melissa and I's texts to Cindy. My hair goals, hair inspiration and current hair. Which had grown out more while waiting on my appointment for Melissa but manageable. Before my appointment started, and as stated in my text I confirmed I wanted my hair copper/strawberry blonde. The ends of my hair in the photos were my goal, and really, I wanted it to be brought up to my roots. Covering my natural brunette hair. The conversation went well, and there seemed to be comprehension on my color. I could care less about cost, or application to achieve the color. We didn't go into too much detail on that. After she washed the color from my hair, I realized it was a cool blonde, no where close to a warm copper/strawberry blonde. The color also did not go entirely to my roots, and you can see my natural color in places. Cindy stated I was not blonde, "It's the lighting". After some back and forth, she said my hair color wasn't achievable because I had filters on my hair. I directly asked for the color on my ends to be brought up as we spoke in person. There isn't a filter in person, and the current hair photos in our texts had no filter. We stated I wasn't seeing the color correctly and it was what I asked for. I then had to show a photo of my partner and I from that morning, where my color is completely different from the blonde she did. In fact, the blonde matched my partners hair. Only then did she say she could put copper over it and that I wasn't clear on it. Honestly, I felt defeated at this point and agreed if that was our only option, but it still didn't cover my roots or natural color. She said that's normal with foils, they don't go to "The scalp". I was at a loss at this point. The copper she put over the blonde isn't the worst, but it wasn't what I wanted. The haircut was underwhelming. I asked for face framing and layers, even provided photos but it wasn't even close. My bangs and ends were just cut straight across. I didn't go into depth about disappointment with the cut. We had already spent five hours together and the color wasn't going to be savable. She ended up curling my hair, so it wasn't till the next wash that I saw the lack of layers. Thankfully I ended up going to my normal Stylist to fix the cut, but sadly he doesn't do color and was at a loss as well. I found it incredibly unprofessional that I was still charged for the service. I do understand the time and materials, but I'm unhappy with the results. The results are too far off from what I asked for. I wouldn't recommend the salon for any service after this experience.

She was amazing!!! She made me feel at ease as I made a big change to my hair, explaining every step and answering my questions along the way! I absolutely recommend her, as I will definitely book with her again in the future! We had the best conversations, and she gave me my dream hair! The salon was so fun overall. It seemed like they had a lot of cool stuff going on. This time, as I entered, I saw they had an event for permanent jewelry, and I'm still upset I didn't get one! But the place was nice, bright, and clean. They also offered complimentary drinks like dirty sodas, which I gladly accepted! I also learned they had a bunch of other services besides just hair care! Also, the pricing was honestly the best I've seen in the area for good-quality service and a colorist who knew what they were doing! I felt so pampered and taken care of here; I could tell many of the other customers around me were repeat clients, which is always a great sign! If you're looking for blonding, absolutely book with Brianna Tolle. I know I will again in the future!

I decided (after endless online research) to try Ashley at Chemel. She turned out to be everything I could have hoped for: patient, kind, a really good listener and, best of all, really talented. My haircut is EXACTLY what I wanted. I think it's maybe even better than my previous stylist did. I'm so happy. Cannot recommend Ashley highly enough.

If you…read morehave time to read, here is my long winded review (go to the last paragraph to skip the back story leading up to my appointment): I have been wearing my hair colored since 1996. I am of mixed ethnicities - my mother is Vietnamese and my father is Black. My natural hair color is jet black (blue-black in the sun) and I have type 3b curly hair. I am very particular about my hair and I don't trust just anyone to color my hair. As a matter of fact, in the 24 years that it's been colored, only 3 people have colored it. The original guy in Detroit who first colored it, my prior stylist here in Washington, and then my current stylist in California (I moved to Cali in 2006). I usually get my roots touched up every 6-8 weeks and I get blonde highlights in the spring and summer months. Due to COVID-19, salons in Cali still have not been able to open for coloring (only for outdoor haircuts) and it's been 6 months since my last appointment. My hair is so dark and needs 40 volume to be lifted, so it has to be done professionally. I was desperately waiting for my stylist to get approval to open. I had about 4.5 inches of root growth and it was driving me crazy! I ended up having to go to Seattle with my sister for a quick weekend to take care of some business up there. Since Washington salons were open, I had the great idea of going back to my prior stylist in Gig Harbor. I was so happy about the option to go back to her, but it turns out she was on vacation on the dates I was coming to town. I was so bummed and complained to my other sister who lives in Tacoma and owns a hot yoga studio there. She knows that I was apprehensive about letting someone new color my hair. I told her that I might take a chance and try Gene Juarez and asked her opinion about that. She told me that one of her yoga students owned a salon and suggested I go to her instead. That student was Amy, owner of Virde Salon. My sis checked with Amy, but she was booked solid on my dates (which was only 2.5 weeks away) and she referred me to Chelsea. Amy assured my sis that Chelsea was good and would take good care of me. Thankfully, I was able to book a spot on Chelsea's calendar for Friday, 8/14, and then I reached out to her via text, after checking out her work on her IG page, to inquire about a phone consultation before coming in. She had replied that she preferred to communicate via text, but she could do a phone call if I preferred. I was thankful that she was willing to do a call because I really needed to discuss my hair needs and my nervousness about going to someone new. I was fine going to text communication after the initial call. On the phone call, she was very pleasant and seemed very knowledgeable about her craft so I felt more at ease about coming in. The day of my appointment, I arrived at the salon, excited and nervous at the same time. I immediately felt comfortable with Chelsea. We hit it off with conversation like she had been my stylist for years. She made me feel at ease by explaining what she was doing throughout my appointment. I learned some stuff I didn't even know about color that day! Chelsea colored my roots, put in highlights, and trimmed my ends. I explained to her that at home, I usually left the salon with wet hair and let my curls dry naturally. She asked if she could diffuse my hair so that she could make sure that the color match was correct (and so she could make any needed corrections immediately), because if I left with wet hair, I wouldn't see the true color until the next day after it dried and she didn't want the color to be off. I had a bad experience with diffusion before and I didn't want that. She then offered to blow dry and flat iron my hair. I was so excited about this option because my current stylist doesn't blow dry/flat iron my hair. I think it's because I have so much hair, and it's thick. Honestly, it's been over 14 years now so I don't even know the full reason any more, she just doesn't do it. I haven't had my hair flat ironed professionally in probably 25 years! Chelsea said that it was important to her that the client has the full salon experience, which includes walking out the salon feeling transformed. Well, let me tell you, I got the full experience that day! My color was absolutely gorgeous and Chelsea got my hair so straight and it was stunning! I got soooo many compliments from friends and family and strangers all week! I felt so beautiful leaving the salon. I couldn't have asked for a better experience! Chelsea did some sort of magic in my hair, because it stayed perfectly straight for a full week, and I only need to lightly run a flat iron over it 2 times in that week. I am so glad to have found Chelsea, and if California salons don't open up for a while longer and I happen to need to go up to Seattle, I'm definitely going to see her again.

I have been to Aura a handful of times over the years (the very first time was YEARS ago when it was swanky- but my hair stylist left so I stopped going for hair but I continued to go when they changed the name, for facials a couple of times) not the point.. but it seemed like this place has changed a lot since last time I was there and it now looks like a hodge podge of different things and it didnt feel cohesive. Which, obviously works for them- but it didnt feel like an actual salon/spa. When we arrived there was no one at the front desk so one of the stylist that was cutting hair had to stop to ask us what we were there for and then said the stylist would be up soon. She came up, we went back, we talked... all is good. (Again, this has nothing to do with the actual stylist!) But the stylist took my daughter to wash her hair and a couple walked in with a baby and a toddler. Seemed to be a stylist that just had a baby. Not sure, but they went back around a corner where we couldn't see them but could hear them. The toddler would come out and run around the salon. Again, I couldn't see back there so idk if there was a door or what- but I assumed after the first time it wouldnt happen again, since this is a salon open to the public and not just for family. Nope. The toddler kept coming out running around and two different times would go to a chair that a client was sitting in and either touch their leg or arm or whatever (as a curious toddler would do) but the dad slowly dragging his feet behind the child and would stand back and say "hey buddy, let's not do that" instead of scooping him up and taking him back to where the stylist and baby were hanging out. It was crazy that it happened once, let alone more then once! Then a couple other people were checking in for their appointments and there weren't seats available, they had to sit in the chairs at the nail area or the dryer. It was just a weird experience between the way the salon was set up, the fact a child was allowed to run around, touching guests, and lack of a waiting room (which if I remember correctly, was taken out to put a little gift shop in?) Like I said the stylist was great.. but the salon overall, I would not recommend.

So... you won't give me my refund but offer to fix my hair which will use up more time and product when you can give me my refund and it'll SAVE BOTH our time and more of your damn product-- which wasn't even that much considering I only literally had like 4 blonde pieces in my hair. You offering to fix my hair is not enough because what makes you think I will trust you to touch my hair again after the first time around? I let her know literally the same week that I don't like my hair so she offered to fix it. She never hits me up to schedule me, instead she posts her last minute availability on IG instead of asking me first if I was available to come in to fix my hair. There was NO effort whatsoever to try to fix my hair. I asked about that availability and she says it's been filled so I tell her to just lmk her soonest. I get NO reply for going on TWO WEEKS and at that point I would rather find someone else who knows what they're doing and could do what I ask for so that's why I asked for my damn refund. After a little heated conversation, she just stops replying-- how professional right? She should've gotten it right the first time or at least close to it. I've been blonde before so I know how my hair is but unfortunately it is obvious you don't what you're doing and also possess THE WORST customer service from any hair dresser I've ever received so I will definitely not be coming back or recommending anyone to her.
