Sylvan Irvine is ABSOLUTELY worth your valuable time and resources! The invaluable guidance of Trischa Romo and Laura Barwick allowed my children to blossom. My daughter made the honor roll for the first time and both of my children are now at the TOP of their classes. I highly recommend Sylvan Irvine. I initially did not realize that Sylvan centers are individually managed. After our first experience with Sylvan in Mission Viejo, we had serious doubts about Sylvan but after spending time in Irvine, I can say that your children will be in good hands. The team at Sylvan Irvine is very helpful, kind and attentive, and they created individual plans for each one of my children which led to success. Thank you for showing my children that you TRULY CARE. Words cannot express our gratitude! read more

Thank you for supporting my little one and providing amazing service! read more

It's not competitively priced with local tutoring available. There are better options available. Once session, on an iPad, was $65/hr for my child to learn in person, at a table, with 2 other students, so 3 students to 1 teacher, + $199 assessment to get started. Pricing is on par with some private school monthly tuitions but you only get 2 hours per week, instead of 35, and your kid learns from an iPad rather than an instructor, who is more like an exam proctor. You don't even get the same proctor every time, for this level of cost I felt I should have been you assigned a personal tutor who worked with him 1vs1 for an hour rather than being on an electronic device for a basic 3rd grade learning level. read more

Horrible customer service. Made a call to inquire about programs, and she kept asking irrelevant things. Had to hang up the call and explore other options. Should have read the reviews first. read more

My experience is with Director Keener proctoring my exam. She responded to me email quickly, many days and times to choose from. She was professional with the exam and did everything by the book. Thank you so much got making it happen so quickly. read more

This place has the best education system which I finally feel like I found the right place for my daughter. The director and the staffs are very nice and helpful. My daughter loves going there but more than anything I see that she's improving on the areas she was weak and enjoys reading more than ever!!! :) read more

My son took SAT prep, the material is great and helped him which parts he needed to put more effort. And the SAT practice tests made him more comfortable with real one. Thank you! read more

I;ve been an educator for many years and truly believe that at times extra support's needed. Sylvan at Irvine's far from providing this. These 5 star reviews are most likely fake. I had my daughter evaluated and she's only 5 years old. they're charging tons of money for a service that de not make sense. How can you have a 5 or 6 or 7 year old work in a group with students a lot older? if these kids need reading skills- the ONLY way to accomplish this goal, is to work on the individual components of reading or more importantly PHONICs in a 1:1 scenario. Our kids are lacking skills (the ones that need these sort of services) because the school system cannot provide the 1:1 they truly need. to me they're all about the money and not about the fact that every child walking through those doors need an individualized program. read more

My twin daughters are in Kindergarten. I noticed one of them seemed to more excited about playing games with letters and phonics than the other (Kennedy). I also knew that homework was much more frustrating, for both of us, with Kennedy. I wrote it off as "kids just develop at different paces. It's only Kindergarten." until their teacher, indicated that she was concerned that Kennedy was way behind the rest of the class in reading and phonics, having trouble recalling letters and sounds. Knowing that a strong, confident educational foundation is fundamental to life-long success, I had to do something. That evening, I started researching programs, calling friends, teachers and tutors, as well as reading reviews (like this one), and making appointments to visit centers in Irvine and the surrounding areas. After about 4-5 days of research, phone calls, and visiting multiple tutoring centers, I decided to send her to Sylvan Irvine. This is why: - Personalized learning plans for each student - Non-competitive environment. Everyone has their own successes. - Never more than 3 students per tutor, often less - They work on assigned homework from school, rather than giving additional homework - They work at a pace that pushes the student to be better, but doesn't stress them - It's a small environment where all the staff knows the students and the students know all the staff We signed up for a 4 month program, after a 1 on 1 assessment, that Kennedy thoroughly enjoyed- often thought it was a fun game. She couldn't wait to start. After about 6 weeks of tutoring, she is reading sentences! She's reading street signs as we drive down the road. She's sounding out 4 syllable words and not getting angry when I ask her to "sound it out". She's enjoying homework! And she LOVES taking successful work from school to Sylvan to show her tutors how well she is doing in school. They celebrate her/their successes with her. The confidence I see in her will drive her to want to be a better student the rest of her education. read more

Our experience so far has been very good and professional. Working with them on the phone, testing my granddaughter and today getting the results. There is quite a bit of work that needs done but not once did Trisha make my granddaughter feel less than adequate or stupid. She was very positive, uplifting and hopeful. My daughter and I were very pleased! Our granddaughter really wants to go and bring her levels up for when she starts her junior year of high school in August. read more

I don't feel like my daughter got what she needed from Sylvan, and the response was always she needs to come more. Well, yes. But that doesn't always work and fundamentals weren't taught. If they were taught then the hours she goes to Sylvan wouldn't matter. When I cancelled early it was made "clear" that I was a bad mom and my daughter wouldnt get to where she needs to be in life. You're wrong. You as an educator should NEVER say words like that. All you did was make everything seem pretty with positivity and optimism. Well I see through it and I would never bring her back and wish I had spent money on anything else. Her education is fine. Turns out she does poorly on tests (which is what Sylvan is all about) because she has testing Anxiety and testing OCD. Look it up and educate yourself on that. Waiting on a refund now. I was told it would be a process because of this...and that...and something else... Eager to take money, not eager to give it back. read more

I recommend Sylvan Learning Center in Irvine to everyone who has children struggling in reading, math, writing and homework support. I have a 3rd grader and I can honestly say that Sylvan is AMAZING just hearing my son say that he can UNDERSTAND say a whole lot about this place, in just the first week my son has made so much progress in his work! With the AMAZING staff in place and teachers who could ask for more they really care about my sons needs and wants. Also the Directors are amazing I love that they knew exactly which programs my son needed. I LOVE YOU SYLVAN IN IRVINE!!! read more

I love how caring and professional the Sylvan staff have been at the Irvine location. In addition, I appreciate the center's open door policy that allows students/members to use the study center outside of one's scheduled tutor hours. The free wifi internet service is also a plus. My son loves coming to Sylvan to enhance his reading skills and his confidence towards school. I'm so thankful for the extra spark of happiness that you've helped to bring out of our son. Keep up the great work! read more

My son has struggled for a long time. And, although I've continuously had him in tutoring year after year with independent tutors, kumon and even friends who are teachers I still didn't see much improvements. The expensive and the time of trying to find the appropriate help for my son was not only exhausting on my pocket book, but it was wearing down in my son confidence and self esteem. The schools were starting make me believe there was something seriously wrong with my son and possibly had some learning disabilities. His teacher had even referred me to a therapist to have my son evaluated. It broke my heart to hear my son tell me he couldn't do it because he was dumb. I was almost convinced that was the direction we needed to go. Call it my mothers intuition, but down deep inside, I didn't think that was the case. My son is in 3rd grade i've always known he struggled with his reading and comprehension. I consulted his pediatrician and he didn't feel or see signs of any disabilities. I was a relieved but still didn't have answers as to how to help my son. I was feeling so frustrated. It was back in May that I stumbled on to sylvan by a conversation while waiting in line at grocery store. I couldn't help listening to this woman's phone conversation. She was raving on and on, how good her daughter had improved and how Sylvan had done this and done that. After she was finished with her call I literally left my cart full of groceries and introduced myself. I kindly excuse myself for ear dropping on her call. But, I explained my situation and with no hesitation she reach into her purse and pull out Trischa Romo business card told me to give her a call. I called her while sitting in my car in the parking lot. It was the best call I ever made. Ms. Romo explained step by step the process and invited us to come by for a tour. We attended our tour and signed up to have him assessed. After the assessment my son was excited and asked when was he going back? I was happily surprised. When we went back for the results I was amazed with just two hours they had spent with my son they knew so much about him. Trischa was very informative, clear, very direct and gave plenty of options. There was no doubt I needed to enroll my son. 4 months later, I am happy to report my son finished his tutoring two weeks ago and he started school last Monday. For the first time in 4 yrs he was excited to go to school. No, attitude and fighting trying to get him ready for school. He's more confident and he hold conversations like he's so grown up. I cried on the drive home thinking how Sylvan has impacted not only my son life but our relationship. The only regret I felt was I wished I had done it sooner. If you have a child that struggles don't wait. And don't cut corners and try to save a buck. Pull all stops.. You will not go wrong with Sylvan. My post originally was meant for Irvine but I don't know why it ended up in Huntington Beach posting so I'm taking the time to rewrite and on the right centers reviews. read more

Sylvan is the best tutoring place to come to. I've been coming this center for three plus years and everyday I come it feels like home. The staff at this center are very kind and helpful and they make you feel at home. Melissa the center director is like a parent who will guide and mentor your child. She seriously helped become the person I am today. I used to be very negative because I wasn't that great at getting good marks in school but ever since I attended Sylvan that totally changed me and now to this day I'm a totally different person Everyday at school I'm always excited to learn. Sylvan seriously motivated me to like learning more!! read more

My teenager son went here for a year. In that time I witnessed complete unprofessional behavior from the center director Trischa. She is phony, and her focus is only on getting your money. My son would come home with incompleted assignments and answers wrong after 2 hrs. I asked him what he did those two hours and his response was he didn't get help. He was going for homework support only, but homework wasn't getting finished. Save your money and find a honest tutor or tutoring place. This place is NOT out for the children's best interest at heart. Especially Trischa..don't let her fool you...This comes after the Anaheim Hills location going bankrupt and shutting their doors abruptly and having our $2,500 in prepaid hours almost lost. read more

Waste of time a lots of money. The center director, Trischa Romo, is manipulative and dishonest. Also the woman can't spell at all. She had spelling mistakes on every handout and in every email she sent me. Goes to show how well qualified staff is at this center. Teachers are rude to students and don't even expect students to stay long enough in the program to excel. Essentially, this center is concerned about one thing. Your money. Go to Laguna Niguel instead! ! Much better service. read more

Hate to say it since they were pretty nice to me but this place is a giant waste of money... I got charged $250 for 3 hours of tutoring. The tutors, although nice, didn't even understand the content they were helping me with! My tutor told me that he remembers learning it but not how to do it and suggested I watch a youtube video on how to do it... While writing notes down he even misspelled many words like the word "grammar" he spelled "gammer". I am extremely disappointed and wish I would have spent my money elsewhere. Very nice people but not very good at tutoring (high school students at least). read more

My son has been attending Sylvan for over a month now, and I am already seeing a big improvement in my son's performance and attitude towards learning overall in addition to a big improvement in his classwork and assessments from school. Contrary to when we started, he is now so much more focused and on task in terms of getting his work done. We decided to go with Sylvan after suspicions I have had with regards to his comprehension, phonics and reading skills which were confirmed by the assessment done at the center to assess his level. These were also confirmed later with his teacher at parent teachers conference later the same week. Everything I suspected as a mother was on the dot, and after conferring with Trisha we came up with a strategy to bridge the gap and bring my son up to his grade level. In the past I have always had difficulty motivating my son to read. In fact only a few months ago, he had declared that he hated reading. Now with just a month behind us at Sylvan, my son has developed a new-found interest in reading, is mastering fundamental comprehension skills and is learning to unlock the doors that kept him from enjoying good books. He is now making his own selections on his own without my having to motivate him. This in and of itself is a major leap and I owe it to making the decision as a parent to seek outside help with Sylvan. I am looking forward to seeing how much more he will accomplish in the next few months he has remaining. I most definitely recommend this center to anyone facing similar difficulties! read more

All I have to say is what a blessing it's been having my son go to sylvan his test scores have made a major improvement and his teacher couldn't even express how proud of him she is and how great he is doing plus the live for reading he has now we are extremely grateful for the work they have done with him. Thank you sylvan team you guys are amazing keep up the good work read more

Our child just completed the writing tutoring program and we couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. Our child has achieved significantly improved levels of engagement, effort and strength in writing skills. Our child has also demonstrated increasing levels of effort in all classes at school while attending Sylvan - definitely a welcome byproduct of the writing program! read more

Sylvan gave my daughter the foundation she needed to be an A student. I am a full time working mom with 2 children and it is hard for me to balance between home, work and giving my children the time to set the right learning foundations. At age 5, I enrolled my daughter at Sylvan for Reading Curriculum. When my daughter entered first grade, she is a very good reader and on higher level of spelling words and her high level continued as she is now in 2nd grade. During last summer, I enrolled my daughter at Math and in 4 months, she jumped 1 grade level. Great job Sylvan. Keep up the great work. read more

With all the tutoring companies in Irvine and a University with lots of students looking for tutoring positions, there is no reason to sign up for massive amounts of tutoring at this place. You can easily find a tutor for the $45 an hour which is what you are going to spend to have your kid sit with 2 other kids and one of their "teachers". They don't want to show you -the kids work or talk to you without an appointment. The other kids are doing different assignments. I really don't like a company that makes you sign up for a specific amount of classes. Then trying taking time off to go on vacation in the summer the owner actually uses the words "I'll forgive some classes" Forgive? You can take a limited amount of time off but you can only make up those classes in a limited time. Better to go with a tutor where you can pay as you go. If you don't like the tutor you can hire another one. The big sales pitch is they say they know what the kid needs. You can download the CA standards yourself. There are no shortage of tutors in Irvine. Do yourself and your kid a favor and try something else. read more

Syvan has a warm, inviting atmosphere for children, who sit 3 to a table with a teacher who is a former school teacher. Each child's curriculum is based on Sylvan's professional upfront and ongoing testing and monitoring (you may be familiar with Sylvan learning books by grade level - we got them from Costco in years past past). My son's grades have gone up, and he has been taught techniques to plan and organize his homework better so that he is more independent and efficient with his time (a big help since he, and we, have full schedules). He enjoys going to Sylvan and comes out happy; and loves the group game with prizes at the end of each session. The Director of Education meets with us routinely every 3-4 weeks on our son's progress, the Center Director knows the kids, as do the teachers and staff at the front desk. A very positive environment to improve learning, and my son now sees and believes he can do well at school. His teacher has seen the improvement too. I highly recommend Sylvan. read more
