So helpful and knowledgeable! The owner helped me choose a beautiful new band that they will cut to fit my unusual watch face design. I also bought a new watch from them- a beautiful Mondaine that I love. They take their time, so if you are in a rush I would go somewhere else. Other than that, I highly recommend!

Harvard Square, Riverside

I've been going to MSJ in Portsmouth for *years* and have loved every experience. So when I needed…read moreto get my rings resized and a necklace repaired I thought I'd check out their new Cambridge location! It only took about two weeks to get my rings back and AT COST since we had originally purchased from them. Andrew was so friendly and we had caught up with small talk while I oogled and ogled all of the beautiful pieces in the shop. Its just a wee store but it has SO much to offer. A really great selection of deco rings (oh the glamour!!) and pendants. The pricing is absolutely reasonable for the quality, the service, and the experience! So excited for them to added on to their family of shops, especially so close to Harvard Square. A total win in my book!

My partner and I purchased a semi-mount setting from Market Square Jewelers (MSJ) in Cambridge, MA…read moreto use with my mom's diamond. The troubles began when MSJ called my partner to pick up the ring even though the appraisal wasn't ready. He proposed, and then MSJ called to say they had forgotten the appraisal and needed the ring back for 3-4 weeks. To add to the frustration, they charged us for this forgotten appraisal. I noticed visible issues with the ring: a noticeably sunken sapphire and visible metal blobs around the bezel, which looked like sloppy leftover glue. Despite assurances from the Harvard Square staff that the ring would be returned perfect and issues would be addressed, the ring was returned to us in the same condition. After asking for advice on Reddit, I learned that the sapphires were likely cut too small and the silver blobs were janky clips that were not securely clipping the stones in. I contacted the Dover location and the Manager of Repairs said they would fully remake the ring, either with the original designer or a new one, depending on the diamond's proportions. However, the remake looked even worse, with smushed milgrain, gaps where the sapphires were too short, and a jagged, twisted bezel. The manager brushed this off as choosing the wrong designer, and mentioned she didn't have a "good eye" like I did. She also mentioned that MSJ was losing money on this process, which was irrelevant to our concerns. Instead of addressing the quality control issues or explaining why these problems occurred, MSJ seemed more interested in making new things without fixing the existing problems, and thus creating new ones. When we received the loose diamond back after opting for a refund instead of a last attempt, it had two noticeable chips that were not there before. MSJ said they stood by their work and that they would have been told if there was a problem in the setting process (which made no sense given the consistent negligence and repeated failures) and claimed the chips were pre-existing. The manager refused to compensate for the damage and did not allow me to get in touch with the owner. This two month long ordeal was incredibly disheartening, time-consuming, and stressful. The consistent negligence and lack of quality control from MSJ were appalling. If you're considering MSJ, think twice before trusting them with your precious jewelry. Sure, they're competing businesses, but I appreciate the options available at both places. The Target is clean, and the staff is friendly. Their security is constantly on guard, though, since there have been multiple attempts of theft. (I've witnessed at least 3 times where a person is attempting to run out of the store with products, and twice when police were called to help.) That's a bit jarring, but I understand their need to be watching all guests. The environment is more relaxed at the other, larger locations where they have a larger security team. Since it's smaller, security and staff will likely check-in with you just as a security precaution. If I hadn't witnessed the other events, I would be a bit put off by it. The layout is a bit strange, but navigating it isn't too difficult if you aren't in a rush. I appreciate the access to fresh groceries at reasonable prices, so it's easy to stop by and pick up what's needed throughout the week.

Looking for two specific things, it definitely took me a while to locate either of them. The store has a very strange layout. Not just the way the departments are set up but even how the shelves are angled. Lots of weird corners and supporting pilings in the middle of places. It's just odd. Still, I eventually found what I was looking for an made my purchase. The store is located directly opposite the Porter MBTA station. [Review 10003 overall, 1583 of 2018.]
