Our room on the last day of our stay at Swiftcurrent
    Emily H.

I was in middle school, maybe even younger, the first time I stayed at Swiftcurrent Lodge. We've been there numerous times in the last 20+ years. From family reunions, my honeymoon, and eventually vacations with our own kids. We have a ton of memories from a child to adult at Swiftcurrent and wanted to hand them down to my own kids. Some memories can never be replaced, like those spent at Swiftcurrent with my grandparents and brother, who have all since passed away. My family and I had, and will always have, a soft spot for Swiftcurrent. My dad, who is the biggest nature lover I've ever known, was constantly picking up pieces of trash or moving things back where they needed to go. As many times as we've stayed there, we started treating it like our own home. Because of all the memories we've made through the years and the memories we were planning on continuing to make for years to come, we took great pride in making sure we did our part to help make it a great resort. However, the last couple times we've stayed there its had a different, not so friendly feel. Stricter rules (which I understand most but some were a little over the top), staff that wasn't nearly as friendly as in the past. We all talked about it and wondered what was going on. We shrugged it off as you don't always know what's happening in other peoples lives and went on about our vacation. Last Christmas dad called to make another reservation at Swiftcurrent for this summer. As he was making the reservation he was told that our rooms were left a mess last time we stayed and one of the rooms was so messy (the room my husband and I stayed in with the kids) that we were one point away from not being allowed back. Dad was so confused as we've never had this problem anywhere we've been... EVER. He was told the housekeeper grades the rooms on a scale of 1(good)-5(bad), ours was a 4, my parents was a 3, at 5 you're not allowed back. You don't know your "score" until you call to set up another reservation and she didn't leave any notes or anything about what was wrong with our rooms so it leaves you wondering what the problem was. He was told in a way that was almost a warning to do better next time or you wont be back but was also told maybe the housekeeper was having a bad day. I would have expected more of a "you've stayed here 2 dozen times in the past and we've never had an issue, I'll look into it." Dad made the reservation anyway then hung up and talked to us about it. Luckily, I took pictures of the room after we had everything packed up in the car to go home. I took them just for my own memories but dug them back up to show dad. The only thing we didn't leave was a tip for the housekeeper. I washed the floors, vacuumed, cleaned off the counters, washed, dried, put away dished, wiped down the fridge, cleaned the sink, among other things. I even put the TV remote back where we found it. I left everything just the was it was when we came..with one exception, I didn't wash the bedding, and remake the bed. That was the only thing I left for the housekeeper. They leave an envelope on the table to tip the housekeeper. The fact that I did everything except make the bed, I didn't feel that a tip was necessary, neither did my parents. Staying at Swiftcurrent isn't cheap and I'm assuming they pay her a wage. The longer we talked about it, the more offended we became. We've been loyal to this resort for years but were treated this way. We called back and cancelled the reservation. We're heading back to Estes Park this Wednesday to a new resort, and new memories. My advice, follow ALL the rules.. there are a lot. And, TIP THE HOUSEKEEPER, whether they have to do anything or not, or you may not be allowed back. I'll attach images of our room also.

My boyfriend and I stayed here last summer on a trip to RMNP. Great price and location for Estes Park. Right on the Big Thompson River and close to town and the park. They run a tight ship at Swiftcurrent, didn't run into any issues. They have a lot of options as far as the amount of space you're looking for-- they vary from one room (more like a hotel, this is what we picked) to two room cottages with kitchens. I liked our room a lot, we had a little balcony that overlooked the river. Could stand to be updated for sure, but the price was what made the difference for me. The complex also has a hot tub right on the river-- nice convenience after hiking all day (but you have to sign up for times, 30 min max/room? There are a lot of rules here). They have grills for guest use as well. I get the sense that it's kind of a quiet, family type place. Hard to tell really since we were there on a slow week and only a few other rooms were taken. Would go back again for sure!

The queen size beds right next to the river, what beautiful sound of the rushing waters.

I feel that this place has not gotten enough good reviews that it deserves, possibly because all those that stay here are true nature lovers and not busy being armchair critics or online. This place is AMAZING, if you are a nature lover and into the outdoors but still look for the comfort of home, this is the place! They have a cute journal that couples and families write in about their stay, and I am GLAD that this place concentrates on the serene part of nature as opposed to concentrating on loud or obnoxious adults and children. They were always friendly when we stayed, highly attentive, always there, and the views and location was amazing. Literally walking into Rocky Mountain National Park from here..amazing...I plan to stay here whenever I go make a vacation for hiking here again. Cheers to all those that love the outdoors and aren't babies about mud, a little bit of insects, water running, but love all those things of nature. I just happen to be a tech person and love nature at the same time, and I am glad as heck this place exists.

Caution, hazardous conditions on the stairs to our room.

LIMITED hot tub availability (30 minutes per room, per day). The hot tub closes at 7 in winter and a little later in summer. No hot tub access in the morning. Oh yeah, checkout is 10 sharp. There are signs in each room warning about another night charge for checking out late. Rooms nothing to write home about. But true reason for the one star rating...we stayed on second floor, the stairs were icy and not cleaned off. I fell down 5 stairs before coming to a stop. No one came out and office was closed. You have to look out for yourself if you stay here!

The hotel is rich in history. Everywhere you look there is charm. We stayed in the "Cowboy Attic Suite". My mom immediately had an "experience". I heard a grandfather clock chime throughout our stay. I never saw one and forgot to ask where it was located. I love old clocks. My aunt had her own experience that woke her from her sleep. Everyone we encountered was nice and we appreciated the cander as we asked for their stories/experiences there. The bad....for what we paid, it was not worth it. The floor feels dirty. It is as though they have not thought to clean the carpets in quite some time. Under the bed is a nice layer of dust. The whole hotel could use a moist cloth and a good wipe down. The dust in the display cases throughout the hotel is obvious and off putting. We met Hannibal. Wish we would have booked the seance, but alas, we ran out of time. He was a hoot to talk to.

Obviously, from the recent reviews and absolutely no response from the management, this hotel…read moreestablishment does not value its guests. As everyone else has mentioned, the construction is a huge turn off! And absolutely no mention of it when you're booking your room. In addition, when I booked my room, I did not realize that I was booking it in the Aspire building. I thought that the Stanley hotel was one big hotel. I did not realize that there were different newer buildings. In the end, though, I am very happy that we are in the other building as what is being done at the original hotel is really offputting. The staff, however, were very nice and accommodating. Besides all of the construction, they have tours going on an hourly basis that are open to anyone who passes by, for a cost of $25+, of course and no discount for hotel guests. Those tourists who have not spent several hundred per night are all over the main lobby, dirtying up the carpet, wandering around the property with screaming kids, going up and down the stairwells, and elevator if it's running, just taking up space that should be reserved for guests!! Especially guests who are paying dearly for what they thought would be an old, elegant hotel experience. It is definitely not an elegant hotel anymore. It tries, a little, but is obviously too interested in making money off of tours rather than providing an exceptional experience for guests. I had envisioned myself sitting in that grand lobby reading a book with some tea. Impossible and wouldn't be pleasant if it was possible. Our room in the Aspire was nice, and the lobby, spa and gym facilities and the outdoor pool are very attractive and peaceful. But, again, some things just don't make sense. For instance, the lovely fireplace they have in the lobby is shut down at 8 PM when the desk agent goes home. I have been looking forward all day, to just sitting by that fireplace with a nice drink and reading my book. Seems like a normal expectation for a higher end hotel in the Colorado mountains. The pool area is nice, as is the steam room and gym. There are plenty of towels, tea and coffee and nice amenities. They need little tables out by the lounge chairs on the pool deck for people to set their drinks and things on instead of the ground. The beds, linens and pillows were great. There is no mini fridge in the room, no additional amenities in bathroom like Q tips, makeup remover wipes, etc... normal amenities offered in hotels of this price range and expected caliber. There is no full length mirror in the bedroom or in the bathroom and the mirror in the bathroom is so dimly lit it is impossible for a woman to see to put makeup on and no other mirror in the bedroom. They don't make up your room or refresh towels unless you specifically request it. I understand not changing out towels for ecological reasons, but when you are paying these kind of prices for a hotel room, someone should come in and make up your bed every day and tidy up and take the trash out. We're just one night in to our stay so we shall see how the rest goes. It has been pretty disappointing though.

It's a beautiful setting, but several issues impacted my experience. First, I felt the advertising was a bit misleading. I saw a pool listed on Orbitz, but I discovered there isn't a pool anywhere on the property. Instead, there are two above-ground hot tubs. I went to the one on the second level, but I found climbing the narrow metal stairs with wet feet to be a bit dangerous. I also noticed that the rooms are slightly dated and showing their age. In my room, the curtain rod was actually falling out of the wall, which told me they need to keep up with better maintenance. You should also know there is no lobby or front desk here; I just received a code via text message and entered it to get into my room. While efficient, it felt a bit impersonal. My biggest complaint, however, was the construction noise. I didn't realize they are currently expanding the inn and building two new buildings on the same lot. Unfortunately, my room was right next to the construction site, and I had to deal with loud noise all morning. I think this place has a lot of potential once the upgrades are done, but between the maintenance issues and the noise, I didn't find it to be the relaxing getaway I was hoping for.

So leading up to our stay I stayed in contact with the front desk Katie, letting her know it's our anniversary weekend and she was the sweetest. When I say this lady went above and beyond and didn't have to, she did! When we arrived, first off there is only 12 rooms, and each room has an actual key!! This place is literally nestled on a side of a mountain w other little resort around. The check in process was so cute. Katie checked us in gave us some yummy cookies and I even bought a cute 4seasons inn sticker to put on my car. The room we booked was a private suite w a private spa grill and seating area. There is seating area by the grill and by the spa. And it's also on the 2nd floor just an fyi if you're wheel chair bound or whatever limitations you may have. So we go into our room and she literally decorated the whole room for us for our anniversary and had a bottle of wine w two wine glasses and fire wood already in our room for us to start a fire. The room was VERY spacious. Has a kitchen that worked a full coffee maker. A good size fridge and the freezer worked amazing. The toiletries that come w the room smell just fantasists. The best morning I woke up to wild turkeys on the ground just gobbling away and elk and deer. There is a community grills and a spa and a few other amenities. The thing I love about this place is it's literally less than 5 mins from the National park and far enough away to be secluded but 8 mins from EVERYTHING in town. And in Estes park there is so much cramed in that town! I LOVED everything. Not a thing was bad about my whole stay.
