Quirky, kitschy, spiritual, traditional, rustic, new age. Somehow Dao house is all of those at the same time! This place is RIGHT next to the Longs Peak trailhead. It's a great way to treat yourself before/after one of the most popular scrambles above 14k in the Canadian rockies! It's also far enough away from the Estes Park madness to be quiet and peaceful with starry skies...but close enough that you can go into town for food and beer. I arrived late, picked up my key, and went to my room. It felt like a massive lodge that I had all to myself. Highly recommended! read more

We booked the 2 queen beds at Dao House through airbnb. The Dao House was 15 mins from RMNP. The atmosphere around Dao House was amazing and we loved the settings around the house as you can see the stars. The check-in process was easy and we checked-in to our room. The room was clean and we loved the room as it has all the requirements which we have. They even have a quick breakfast in the morning which was amazing and delicious. The only drawback was that there was no phone network in the area and there is no wifi in the house. So we were disconnected from the world for 2 nights but it was good also as we were able to enjoy the nature around. read more

We loved getting married at Dao House!! The ceremony site & main reception room are gorgeous and the food was awesome! Dao's communication can be challenging, but they really pulled out all the stops in the month before our wedding (160 people) -- including numerous small requests like cleaning the windows, weed picking, finishing a construction project and relocating some outside furniture/front hall decorations. The wifi was our biggest challenge -- don't expect your guests to have much during their stay & cell service is very limited too. Overall, if you're patient with the overworked staff, a big wedding can come together very nicely. read more

I absolutely love this place! A great getaway to unplug and relax. I thought I would miss not having a TV in the room but instead I enjoyed the peace and tranquility. As soon as you walk into the lobby your stress level decreases. The room was clean and comfortable. The view is spectacular. The internet is iffy and frequently didn't work but I didn't care. The staff is friendly and very informative on things to do. It was a 15 minute drive into downtown and about 20 minutes to Bear Lake Trailhead in the Rocky Mountain National Park. I participated in a free Tai Chi class at there. Loved it! I highly recommend Dao House. read more

We were surprised by the Dao house. We didn't expect to be submerged into a Buddhist atmosphere. If we were traveling with extended family and children we wouldn't pick this lodge. We needed one overnight stay due to a family member running a marathon in Estes. The race started at this property so that's why we booked it. The room was basic and rustic. The bed was ok. Our room had a thick wooden door that opened to the outside deck where we could sit on a log bench and enjoy the Mountain View. The windows opened for fresh air which was nice. Several of the screens didn't seal well enough to keep insects out. We appreciated that they had pet friendly rooms so those of us with allergies wouldn't be in a pet used room. We wouldn't stay here again. read more

I had my wedding here back in September. The venue itself is GORGEOUS and was the only saving grace to it being terrible. Long story short don't have your wedding here. If you do - DON'T stay onsite and DON'T eat their food. Reasons to stay away are as follows: #1 they are highly unorganized. I planned my wedding from a different state and response times were terrible and answers changed constantly. There were many last-minute things told to us that we were not prepared for. #2 when we arrived to check in (at 3pm) the night before our wedding, our room wasnt ready and we had to wait for someone to go "clean" it. Even then they didn't change the bedding and it was just a horrible start to our wedding weekend. #3 the food. We traveled to CO earlier in the summer to do our reception tasting and had delicious mouth watering salmon and ribs. At our reception, our food was 30 minutes late, the salmon and carrots were undercooked, and whatever meat that was supposed to be ribs in a wine sauce was just fatty chewy pieces of disgust. I was so embarrassed for my guests to have traveled from across the country to eat the most horrible meal of my life. We work in the customer/food service industry and was highly disappointed in the service. #4 all of our guests who booked at the Dao House during the discounted wedding rate were not charged that upon checkout nor was an invoice sent to any guest. I had to demand that they reverse the charges for all our guests because that is just unprofessional. #5 while checking out, we were informed of a $200 fee for our vendors dinners. This was stated no where in the contract and was just another attempt to get more money out of us. We disputed the charges because our 4 vendors were included in our guest count and had already been paid for. Needless to say I was not happy with how the Dao House prepared for and handled my wedding so I hope anyone considering this venue proceeds with EXTREME caution. I did reach out to the venue afterwards to air my grievances and provide feedback for future weddings, and they mainly pointed fingers and accepted very little fault. I have a "free nights stay" as a "comp" if you call it that, but why would I want to return to a place that was already so disappointing for a huge event such as my wedding?! read more

Another long overdue review! The Dao House really made my first trip to Colorado wonderful. It's one of the main reasons why I want to move to Colorado now! I came down with my colleagues for a workshop being held at the Dao House in early October. Mind you, the drive from our first stop to the Dao House was one of the most gorgeous and scenic drives. Our first morning waking up at the Dao House was defintely a sight to behold. But really what makes the Dao House so special and lovely are the accommodations. There was about 20 people in our group. They served us breakfast and homemade organic lunch and dinners. Each meal was truly made with care. Nothing like homemade hearty food when you're away! And the staff is so friendly and helpful. And they're really accommodating with anyone that has dietary restrictions. On our check out date, we had a situation that would make most people freak out. What helped in our calmness was 1) Daoism but really 2) how quick thinking the staff were. Basically we couldn't drive back to the airport in our car rental because the car rental key flew to Chicago with one of our colleagues the night before (BIG OOPS). And we didn't realize it until we were trying to leave! The front desk found an emergency shuttle, but when that one backed out, they found another one that would be willing to pick us up off schedule and for a really decent price! Phew! The cabins are cozy. The rooms are clean. The views are gorgeous. We felt spoiled. read more

This hotel unfortunately operates under some pretty fraudulent business practices. We were charged more than twice the agreed upon rate upon checking out. When we reached out to them to rectify the situation, they had the wrong dates listed for our stay and refused to work with us. Very disappointing. read more

DINGY is the first word that comes to mind. This place is cheaply renovated and outdated. There is NO service and they don't share their WI-FI password with guests. The tub would fill with water every time we showered. When we booked the room, we asked for 3 rooms but since my sisters family got COVID, we cancelled one room. When we arrived, we were only booked for one room instead of 2, even though we confirmed multiple times over the phone that we were only cancelling ONE room. This place is not located inside Estes Park, but higher up in elevation and 15 minutes away. read more

This campy-vibe cabin set-up was perfect for a trip to the rockies. We stayed Saturday night and the staff had set up a great bonfire for us. The cabins were cute and clean (still a little rustic), the facilities not too busy, awesome coffee, great little nearby hikes and proximity to RNP. Most notably, the maintenance staff bent over backwards to keep the bonfire going late for a crowd that had gathered, the chef personally brought out some off-menu things so we could have smores, and the restaurant managers both being so friendly and welcoming--with higher end menu options than I expected in such a rustic feel. There are a few facilities things they could fix (outdated sports nets, actually using the fireplace in the lodge, some signage for the trail hikes and amenities) that would give the vibe a little more of a tightened up feel. read more

As far as a hotel goes, it's crap. The rooms are nothing special, breakfast was awful (just seemed like the day old pastry you would get at the grocery store) things like a mini fridge aren't included. On the good side the environment is very pretty, the hostess was friendly when we arrived, and the lobby is comfortable. I don't do horses so I imagine that is better, the enclosure and trails they had for them looked nice. Just as a place to stay, even at half off (which we recieved) I would put it at or below tiny hole in the wall local motels. For full price I can't imagine even the activities being that worth unless you just participate in everything read more

Very relaxing place indeed. It's about a 15 minute drive from the center of Estes Park. Dao House has a great view of the mountains from every room. The staff are nice and very accommodating. Breakfast is complementary and they serve a fresh fruit, homemade gluten free muffins, and organic everything. The room was clean and spacious. This review is for the restaurant, which is now only open for special events like Thanksgiving and Xmas. As my wife is vegan, it's difficult to find places to eat on Thanksgiving. I'm very happy that this place has decided to stay open for events. They did have turkey, which was very good, but everything else on the menu was vegan, and for the most part very good. We recently stayed at the Rustic Dao House and enjoyed our evening meal there as well. Our accommodations were warm , friendly, and very reasonably priced. We enjoyed drinks at the bar with Peter. We were greeted and wonderfully catered to by Evan. The staff was amazingly friendly, efficient, and met our every request. We were impressed with the quality of food and the passion the chef , Chef John, demonstrated and displayed as the food was presented to us. It was some of the best food we have ever had the pleasure of experiencing . Thank you staff at Dao House and Summit View for helping make a memorable experience at Estes Park. Colorado. Anyone that says this place isn't good is a liar. You can't go wrong with the beautiful views and the amazing breakfast. It's so nice that you don't have to go out of town (which is about 10 minutes away) to eat a good filling and delicious breakfast. Check in was easy and staff was nice. My only complaint is that the bed was so comfy that I slept through New Year's. LOL. And that we didn't get the side with the beautiful view. Next time we go we will ask if we have the correct side of the building for the better looking mountain. Shower has great pressure and remained hot for a long time and that's nice in the winter. Would of been 5 stars if we had the better view. We will be going back though!:) read more

The moment we arrived, the front desk staff started lying to us. My family and I had booked a 3-room suite for 5 people. However, the person checking us in gave us a two-room bedroom that barely fit 3 people comfortably. We went to our room and felt that something wasn't right. The next day, we went back to request a new room, because we clearly weren't given what we booked and paid for. They made excuses that the room we had booked was actually not available and that a two-bedroom was the biggest room they had. They didn't want to refund us any money for the downgraded room. We had to argue for over an hour to get them to give as an additional room. However, we had already overpaid for a night, so we asked for any other type of compensation. We settled on $10 breakfast vouchers for each of us that we could redeem the morning of check out. They said they would deliver to our room. However, the vouchers were never delivered. We had to harass the front desk 4 times before they gave us five $8 continental breakfast vouchers. When we got to the restaurant, they informed us there was no such thing as continental breakfast. It was absurd. How can the hotel staff not know they're own meal offerings?! Why were they trying to sneakily get away with giving us a smaller, cheaper room and also trying to get away with not giving us our deserved breakfast compensation? The hotel rooms also don't have basic amenities like a microwave and mini fridge. This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in and it made a comfortable family vacation the worst, most frustrating experience. DO NOT STAY AT DAO HOUSE. read more

My brother and I went to the Dao House for a weekend retreat. We were so impressed with Master Chen and the Qi Gong/Tai Chi that we received. Master Chen is a Daoist Priest who changed our health for life! His knowledge of Chinese Medicine and the Internal arts is the most profound I have encountered in the US. This place is a must for Tai Chi/Qi Gong students and a magical retreat for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway. The accommodations and food were top notch! I will definitely return. read more

We recently booked a stay at the Dao House through Hotwire and were very excited for our stay; however, it quickly became a nightmare. We arrived to the hotel around 9 pm to check-in after an evening hike and dinner. When we arrived, there was no one at the hotel, the doors were locked and the lights inside were off. We had to drive back towards Estes Park to get phone service and repeatedly called the establishment with no answer. As such, we had to book another hotel and thankfully Hotwire (also unable to reach anyone at the hotel) fully refunded our reservation. The most concerning part of this was that there are no clear check-in times for this establishment and they never reached out to us about us not showing up before closing (To note, there were less than 10 cars at the property, so it was clearly not a busy night and it is easy to see that one reservation had not arrived). Overall, this is by far one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a hotel. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone and would look elsewhere in Estes as there are plenty of hotels that actually stay open to check-in their guests. read more

Beautiful accommodations but request ADA room if stairs are an issue. Very comfortable, super clean and updated rooms in main lodge. No restaurants nearby so bring food if arriving late as we did. There is a delivery service but not dependable. Beer and wine available and it would have been great if they had a wheel of cheese and crackers to buy. Breakfast is continental. We had such a wonderful experience at Dao House. Cozy and loving atmosphere to say the least. Our room was fairly large and had that lodge feeling we were looking for. The beds were very comfortable, the room was clean and we had a great patio to come out to in the mornings to view the mountains. The staff working at Dao House is so kind and generous we felt very welcome. When I happened to have a flat tire and my car was towed away to Loveland, 1hr away, Sam one of the staff members offered to drive me to my car. Our daughter had her wedding at Dao House last weekend and if I could give them more than five stars, I would. The mountainside ceremony setting was breathtaking. Dao House staff was just lovely and so kind. They accommodated every need of our large group. The food was local, organic, and delicious. Guests enjoyed horseback riding, hiking, the oxygen bar, and a community Tai Chi class. We are already planning to return, stay a bit longer, and try a wellness package. read more

We recently spent one night in a cabin at the Dao House. I saw the other reviews, and not quite sure how the cabin we stayed in was so different. First, the cabins look like a kids summer camp, desperately in need of paint. When we opened the door, we were met with an overwhelming smell of musty old carpet. I commented to my spouse that it smelled like a wet dog. The bathroom and bedroom were clean enough, although in need of updates. The scariest part is that we both heard some sort of creature, probably a mouse, chewing his way through the bedroom that night. In the morning, I noticed a hole in the bottom of the fire door. Finally the price per night is outrageous. This is not a $225/night place, more like $125. Very disappointing. Plenty of other options in Estes. read more

We found this place by accident, and it one of those accidents that makes you feel like you must be living right. This place was a perfect rustic get away set in a 100 year old log cabin-style main building. Don't let the age of the building throw you though, the amenities are first class. The other review mentions rusty water and other problems that we just didn't experience. The bathrooms appear to have been recently updated to tile and granite. In fact if it wasn't for the towering fireplace in the lobby, and the classic look of the building, I would have had a hard time believing that the place was 100 years old. The rooms were spotless and the service was friendly. The place had a calm, peaceful atmosphere that I found very relaxing. The continental breakfast was not extravagant, but it was clean and tasteful. They also offer horseback riding, access to some hiking trails, and many other amenities, but we only stayed in the hotel in the evening for a 3 day stay. Highly recommended if you're looking for a clean hotel room at a reasonable price away from the city. read more

Overall it was a pretty normal place to stay at. Definitely not five stars. Spiders in 3 corners of the small bathroom. Had to watch if they moved the whole time I showered which was scary as heck. Beautiful view of the mountains, though. Could hardly watch tv, there was one channel we could actually stay on. I had zero WiFi, even when I tried connecting. But it was pretty cozy. So If you don't have a problem with spiders, and no WiFi/ no cell service, you should have a nifty time. Beds were so comfy, view is absolutely stunning, and they have a little breathing treatment area which is cool if you're having trouble breathing from elevation, and the staff members are so sweet. read more

I absolutely loved this place. Although the lodge is minimally staffed, the customer service was wonderful. The staff members were friendly and very much attentive and willing to help with anything that we required. Sam, the manager on duty is phenomenal. The setting is very tranquil. The rooms were very clean and the location of this lodge is conveniently in walking distance from a lovely horse ranch. The lodge is also in close proximity to the Rocky Mountains which was exactly what we were looking for in order to be near hiking grounds. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Travelers Beware! This place is horrible and not worth $49 a night, let alone the $250 plus tax we were charged. We were scheduled to stay three days and left after the first. There was pubic hair all over the bathroom floor, and we weren't certain the sheets had been washed as they were wrinkled and smelled funny. Coupled with no cell service, Internet, or running water, it soon became obvious that a comfortable stay at the Aspen Lodge, or Dao House as they have rebranded themselves, would be impossible. We eventually got water, though it came out of the tap rust-brown and smelling like rotten eggs. There was also an odd, sad feeling about the staff and the owner they all referred to as "master." They refused to give us a refund and were rude when we brought these events to the attention of the front desk. I cannot say this strongly enough, but my suggestion is BEWARE! Based on our experience, this is no place to stay at all. Hotel California would be an upgrade. read more
