Photos online are very outdated. Pool was a huge disappointment, they claimed to have had it open one week before. However it was very green and looked like it had been broken a while. Hot tub was also broken and nonfunctional. Campfire area was very unsightly and nasty as well, with junk piled up in line of sight. Front desk argued with me regarding the do not disturb/make up room sign. Very unprofessional. Website claimed to have rooms with outlets for charging and usb charging. There were two available outlets, and no usb charging. Our door to our room was not secure, did not close properly and was very hard to get open/closed. My family and I will not be coming back here or recommending to anyone. read more

I was unhappy about the condition of the room I had rented. The owner graciously refunded the cost of the stay even though I had booked a non-refundable rate. The rooms do need repairs and updating which I am sure the management will do during the upcoming slow winter season. I appreciate the integrity of their management! read more

This place started off promising, but it quickly unraveled. We came to Estes for hiking at RMNP and wanted a place to have breakfast, recover in a hot tub, and crash at night. In photos they appeared to have a hot tub, but upon arrival we found it in disrepair. When asked the front desk man said Estes laws Jo longer aloud them to have hot tubs outside. This was a complete lie as we checked state and city laws, and even found numerous other places and hotels that had outdoor hot tubs. The rooms themselves weren't bad. The beds were a bit squeaky, but were well made, the shower was nice with good water pressure but lots of air bubbles in the floor. Another good feature of the bathroom was that the sink was outside the toilet and shower, so one person could get ready while one showered or went the bathroom. The breakfast was sub par with just warm food, and cheap premade food. Outside of the 1st floor rooms, there is a carpet walkway, and when it rains, it has an awful musky moldy smell, and our room even got water all over in the front. They have a coin operated washer and dryer, but the dryer was out of order all week, and they didn't look like they were in a hurry to fix the ancient dryer. All together not recommended at all. read more

This was a great experience with the great young man working the desk upon check in. He was friendly so helpful. The room was large and clean. This is not a 4 star hotel. This is a nice remodeled motel that is worth the money. Wildlife is every place. Highly recomend This place for your stay in Estes Park. read more

I have to agree with a lot of the recent reviews. This place is resting on its laurels and relying on old reviews to pad its reputation. Dirty AC filters that are possibly weeks removed from being cleaned. Exposed carpet tacks that stabbed both my wife and I's feet getting into and out of the tub. The tub faucet doesn't have handles. Many things that aren't difficult fixes but are left unattended. I brought all of this up to the staff and was told I'd receive a call regarding the experience and I've yet to hear from them. Someone who stayed here under (evidently different owners, may I add) recommended this place, but it completely failed to live up to my expectations. We had the chance to add two more night to our stay and I called ahead and was told "Sure, no problem." The problems started when we got there- not only did the clerk not want to honor our original four night prices quoted (thank heavens I had the confirmation letter), but the additional two nights were going to equal the four nights we'd already reserved in price! When I asked why, he said the prices went up "during the season." We deliberately times our visit to be before the "season" began. He also started several times that "the iPad won't let me change anything," which is absurd if that's what you're running your business with. THEN he said we'd need to change rooms for the last night of the stay, "but it's a better room." I asked why we couldn't have a room that we didn't need to change for one night and again with the "the iPad won't let me change things." I told him to cancel the extra nights- I mean, it's Estes Park before the season starts, so there are plenty of rooms- and when I asked for a printed receipt, he appeared angry and said it would take some time. I said I'd wait (it took no time). The room itself was clean enough and would have been quite fine if the beds hadn't been so high. As a shorter person, I practically needed a sherpa to get on the bed, and then my feet were eight inches from the floor (I'm on the short end of average height, not a mini-person). And we measured that distance. Breakfast was meh but honestly, who really expects an amazing breakfast in the average place? On checkout I pointed out that the coffee maker in the room used pods, but k-cups were supplied, and added they might want to change that. Just letting the guy know, but he irritated and said that some rooms had one, some the other. I explained I understood and embraced the idea of using the old machines until they died, but just wanted to point this out. Couldn't wait to leave and will not stay there again. Oh, and we went next door and got a lovely room at a reasonable price, much better customer service, and an edible breakfast. read more

Pros: Front desk attendant was kind and helpful. Had a basic breakfast (toast, muffins, cereal-The "hot" food they had was cold. We ended up having to go elsewhere for breakfast the last 2 days of our stay). Easy to get into and out of the parking lot. Refrig and microwave in the room. Outdoor pool Wifi signal was strong and working well. Housekeeping came each day and made the beds and left new towels. On our last day, we even had fancy towel art in the bathroom. Cons: This hotel is very dated! Lots of ripped outdoor carpet covering the walkways (very much a tripping hazard). Bathrooms were very dated and not need to be refreshed. Stained doors and tiles. Ceiling had spots on it (not sure if mold or just staining). Some of the outside lights on the walkways not working, so hard to see when you get back at night. The steps to get to the 2nd floor on some parts were very steep especially when carrying luggage up or down them. Room cleanliness was not up to standards. Stains on the white sheets and comforter, walls and carpet dirty, furniture dusty and hadn't been wiped down recently. Hot Tub broken and no mention that it didn't work. Seating area outside needs to be cleaned. Had a huge can of cigarette butts sitting out on the tables and the tables definitely needed to be hosed down and cleaned. Pillows were not full size pillows and they were rock hard. Curtains in the room are old and because of this didn't close fully. I had to use clothespins to keep them closed, especially from the outside walkway. When walking by other rooms, they had the same issues because you could easily see people in their beds, etc.... On our first day, the bathroom floor was sticky when you walked on it. The housekeeper must have mopped because after this, it was fine. Even though the location was great and the front desk staff were kind and helpful, I would be looking for another place to see if I come back to Estes Park. read more

This is a fairly basic place to stay (small rooms, functional but not decorated, etc.), but it was clean and reasonably comfortable (only issue was the refrigerator constantly buzzing). They seem VERY minimally staffed though. Half of the breakfast items were gone when we arrived 10 minutes after the start of breakfast time and weren't restocked for close to an hour, nobody was at the front desk when I went to check out, etc. I'd be open to staying here again, but there are probably similar or better options nearby as well. read more

The "suite" upstairs is old, musty and gloomy. I immediately asked for a refund. They could not do that, so they moved us to a different smaller room (with no financial compensation). First room had a broken sink faucet. Maintenance not available on Sunday to fix it. Second room had a shoebox sized air-conditioner, which looked like it was from the Vietnam War era, and could not adequately cool the room. Outside door which did not close flush with the frame. Third room not clean with hair in the tub, shown to the housekeeper who removed it. Both double beds with stained sheets. No hair conditioner, just shampoo. Had to go buy a full sized bottle of hair conditioner. Housekeeping on Monday, but no housekeeping on Tuesday. Run down motel with inadequate upkeep. Uncovered coffee cups and stir sticks just left out in the open. See photos. read more

While we had to cancel our trip the day before our reservation because of Mother Nature (Ugh, thanks hurricane Henri!), customer service is excellent. Thank you to the staff for understanding circumstances beyond our control. We did not cancel within 48 hours for full refund but I figure people cancel for different reasons at the last minute and have to take the monetary loss. We were really bummed that we couldn't come. Instead of having to pay for the first night's stay per their policy, they offered us credit for a full year. I hope we can reserve the same kind of room with a deck facing the mountains in the future. They are located close to the Rocky Mountain Park entrance and a mile from downtown. read more

When I booked an overnight stay in Estes a few weeks prior, little did I know it'd be snowing on Labor Day. Womp, womp. Colorado, you a tad crazy sometimes. However, we made the most of our day in Estes and the Blue Door is a solid hotel option! Location, location, location. Close to pretty much everything, just a stone's throw from downtown. I believe the hotel was newly renovated within the last few years. Obviously, we didn't take advantage of the pool, though the area looked like it would've been fun. They even have a live musician a few nights a week. Touché. After a long day on the trails, all you want is a hot shower and a comfortable bed. Blue Door delivers on those features. We had an adjoining double room (three of us) with two beds, two bathrooms and a common area. For one night, it provided everything we needed. We knew we'd be waking up to a snowstorm and temps in the 20's, so having a heater that worked properly is something this new(ish) Coloradan appreciated. Prices can be high at times in Estes and we felt we got our money's worth at Blue Door! read more

Unethical establishment. I was forced to attempt to cancel my reservation due to the Wild fires near Estes Park. State of emergency for the entire area. Travel to the area unadvisable and unsafe. National Guard called in. The owner's response? "Sorry. No refunds." They then promptly stoped replying to my emails. I didn't simply change my mind about the reservation. Wildfires made the area unsafe. These crooks refused cancellation, deferred reservation or refund. This establishment refused any and all possible solution except keeping my money for free. Unethical establishments such as this no longer operate anonymously. Think before you book how you would like a business to treat you in a crisis situation. read more

We stayed for 2 nights during the summer of Covid and felt safe here. Very clean and mindful. The front desk personnel were always nice and professional - for the most part knowledgeable about things to do in town and food places. We tried a hike around Lake Estes only to find out that part was shut down due to a momma Elk who had recently given birth. We did not swim in the pool, but saw that they had corn-hole boards on one end of the property as well as horseshoe rods/boards up. There's also a small basketball hoop near the pool. So lots of little things to occupy your time when you're not in town doing touristy things. Luckily, we ran into either the owner or a manager while playing corn-hole who asked about our route out of town the following morning. We were planning on driving up through Rocky Mtn National Park via the 34. He warned us of a new reservation system and to 1. try to get a reservation for the next morning or 2. make sure we get past the gate to the park by 6AM before it is manned. This turned out to be KEY advice to our roadtrip! Reservations were already gone, so we got up very very early the next day and entered the park by 5:45AM. It was worth it to see the sun rise over the pristine mountains of the park. Breakfast was a bagged deal because of Covid, but was good. They even delivered it to your door if you couldn't make the trip to the office to pick it up. The only con I can come up with is the roof is pretty 'thin'. On the first night, we had an upstairs neighbor who paced...for HOURS...until midnight and kept us up. Thankfully, the next night we had no such problem. Everything about this hotel/motel was above expectation. There Wi-Fi was decently fast too. Great spot to base your Estes Park adventures. read more

I'm just home from my daughters wedding and our party purchased probably over 120 nights at $200 ($24,000) over the last three or four days. Yes we were celebrating! probably too loud. And we respect we made other people uncomfortable.Yes we know we had 80% of the rooms available. The staff was fine. Isaac and Sammy were Great taking care of us. Is John the owner or just a manager with a chip on his shoulder?Your actions and authoritarian Idiocracy were ridiculous. Yes we were having a good time. But nobody should ever book a big event there. Even after coherent conversations we were asking how we handle the noise complaints. We were happy to can clean our rooms and take trash to the dumpsters and he would look the other way. If you're the owner fine. If you're not ....the owner should talk to you. Seriously. read more

What did we do without reading reviews prior to staying places? Having not ever been to Estes Park, I was going in blind as to where to stay. Given I read raving reviews about this place, this is where we landed. And I am so glad we did. From the minute we stepped in to the lobby, we were treated as distinguished guests. Isaac, I think was his name, was friendly and welcoming. He even made a trip to our room when we had issues with the tv/cable box -- which you just need to unplug for a few seconds longer and let it reboot. The breakfasts rival any hotel breakfasts I have eaten. We absolutely loved the sugared waffles. The complimentary popcorn and cookies in the lobby mid-day were an added bonus. The rooms had everything we needed -- including towels for as many guests we had -- which Isaac assured me he wanted to ensure their hotel had because the one I stayed in the night before only had two towels in a room equipped to sleep four. You can tell the owners of this hotel know how to accommodate travelers. I highly recommend this hotel and will come back here to stay again. read more

The more I stay here the more I like it. The room is really clean and well appointed. I left the bed covered in white with white pillows. I was surprised to see the sink is across from the bed in number 219. The bathroom is around the corner with the toilet and shower. The shower has been updated and it's really pretty. It was a little chilly that first night. I think it may be because I left the bathroom door open there is no heater in there. And the cold air from the window I think got into the main room. I called the front desk and they immediately brought a nice little space heater that works really well and truly does heat up the room. I could just keep the bathroom door closed but then when I go in it's very cold if I don't try to have heat going into it. Doing an experiment today. I think it is amazing they do daily room cleaning and they are very careful and thorough. I'm going to leave a $100 tip. I had that set aside for something else but this is a good place to give it. I met the maid, if that's even still a a word, and she was really really friendly. She and her family definitely deserve it. I had planned to give it before I even met her but kind of glad to see who will receive it. Any of the staff here are excellent I feel. read more

I have so much to say about this hotel. Loved everything from the pleasant welcome & hospitality from Jeremy at the front desk, to the view from our room, to breakfast in the early AM. Everything about this hotel was absolutely fantastic. Very clean, very comfortable, very cozy hotel. The balcony was a HUGE bonus! Really did not want to check-out. Not to mention, you're only 4 minutes away from the world-famous Stanley Hotel! How cool is that?! Highly recommend Blue Door Inn to any and everyone who comes through CO. Uncaring, selfish, thieves. This company has no heart. I had to cancel at the last minute due to two highways to get there being closed for wildfires. Fast growing close by wildfires. The Blue Door Inn was our first lodging during our 2 week Colorado road trip this summer. This was also my favorite lodging during that time as well. The size of the room was good enough. Nothing fancy or large, but good for what we needed. Fridge/microwave and enough as we would be spending the next 2 days in Rocky Mountain National Park anyway. From our room window we saw rabbits, ground squirrels, and a marmot. That was pretty cool. We also saw a deer by the parking lot. There is a pool, hot tub, cornhole, shuttleboard, bench swing, and a campfire area. We utilized cornhole and the campfire. They even offer FREE marshmallows and sticks for guests. My dad said he hadn't done that in like 20 years! It was lots of fun and FREE. They also have a fun breakfast and it's pretty good. Not just cereal and pastries, but they had some hot items too. Great, friendly customer service too. My only issue was that they have 1 washer and 1 dryer available. Had to wait around for other guests to finish. Nice to have activities around the hotel. Made the hotel more fun and more like an experience than just a "place to stay for the night." Highly recommend and would definitely return. read more

What can I say! I've been to many places to hike and this is the most pleasant stay I have every experienced. I didn't expect my room to be so clean given their pricing compared to others. This place is worth more than you're paying for it. The staff are just terrific. I was quite impressed with how hard they worked to put out a nice breakfast in the morning in their small-but-pleasant breakfast room. The stained wood exteriors are kind of rustic but fit with the mountain theme. The assortment of games on the grounds is impressive, with cornhole, horseshoes, deck shuffleboord, and Lord knows what else. The pool is nice, with hot tub. They have outdoor musical concerts in the pool area several nights a week in the summertime. The upper balconies have wide spots with cafe-style chairs and tables, and I will tell you that they are a nice place to have a beverage while listening to the live music in the pool. (No, the noise from the music isn't loud enough to hear in the room with the windows shut.) The basic room was a touch on the cramped side, but had all of the amenities I could want. We stayed a second night and got the king-sized suite, which has a lovely hot tub and an excellent conversation area away from the sleeping area. Even the coffee is good. This is an underrated motel/hotel. read more

Where do I even begin? I wish I had more photos to show off how great this hotel is. The Blue Door has been completely remodeled, and we had a wonderful stay. The rooms are clean and have updated appliances (microwaves, fridges, Keurig, clean remotes, nice shampoos and soaps). The owners are incredibly friendly and very focused on customer service. The breakfast is just the right amount, and they have an adorable outdoor area with bags sets, a bonfire pit, horseshoes and other yard games. The beds are comfy, too and they give you plenty of extra blankets. It's also very close to the lake and about a mile from downtown Estes Park which we enjoyed and took full advantage of. This place is very affordable, too which makes it a great value. Bookmarked it, because we plan to stay here again next year. read more
