There are occasional misses but out of the 4 local Swenson's that I've regularly visited (Brecksville, Parma, N.Olmsted and Avon) this location is THE most consistent. It has some of my favorite workers and delivers on the quality most consistently. Also a great location because of all the convenient stores nearby, love coming out here and getting some shopping done: Menards, Aldi, Lowe's, Cabelas just a very cool spot. Menu recommendations? Obviously the Galley Boy, whatever the drink of the month is those are usually good. Even the burger of the month is usually good too, LOVE when they have bottle caps (deep fried jalapeño.) If you're getting fries just go for the Cajun seasoning, they're pretty standard frozen fries otherwise. read more

Great burgers and shakes Going to swensons is a fun experience. You sit in your car and turn on your headlights for service. The staff comes out and gives you a menu to order. When your food is ready they bring it out on a tray that hangs from your window. If at anytime you need service during you meal just turn your headlights back on. Swenson's Drive-in is a staple in northeast Ohio! We are so fortunate that they expanded from the Akron area out to the Cuyahoga County area. My go to meal is a double cheeseburg with extra pickles, onion rings or fried mushrooms with a side of ranch, and either a hotfudge and pb milkshake or an Ohio. And Ohio is like a cherry 7up with pebble ice. They also have a California (grape) and a Florida (orange). They have delicious burgers that come on a toasty bun. They also have some delicious seasonal shakes! The pumpkin pie shake is a hit! This particular location has friendly service consistently but it's usually pretty slow. I have waited up to 30 minutes at times. Overall, I continue to return because the food is delicious and the service is friendly. Just don't stop here when you're in a hurry. read more

The last 3-4 times I have come to this location it's a disaster!! No problem with food it's the help or lack of help!! Sat there today better than 10 minutes waiting for someone to wait on me. Maybe 4-5 cars in parking lot. I got angry needed to get to my job no one came. I grew up in Akron with Swensons always had help running out looking for cars. We drove into Swenson's tonight for quick bite. There is something fun about having dinner brought to your car. When you arrive you let the servers know you are ready by turning your lights on. The server generally runs to the car. Our order came out very quickly. Unfortunately their plant based burger is vegetarian not vegan, so i ordered fries. My partner and son both ordered Galley Boy Burgers. They commented on the unusual sauce combination on the burger and both agreed it was unusual but it works. The server was hesitant to hang the tray on the car because it was known to scratch cars, so it was a little awkward having it in the car. We did appreciate the server caring about the car. When we finished our meal the server came to the car. We cashed out and we were finished. We were in and out pretty quickly. Swenson's was not busy on this chilly December night. I was picking up an uber order to deliver and when I was rearranging everything in my NEW truck I knocked over two milkshakes in my center console. TWO milkshakes completely destroyed and upside down in my truck. Splatter is literally on every surface of my interior. I asked the guys working for a few napkins and said what happened. They brought me out wet naps and a whole roll of paper towels while the other guy remade my order. Listen, it's fast food. Yes it gets 5 stars for fast food, not as a big fancy meal. But dang it sure gets the job done. When visiting the area, I had to try the regional favorite. Went with the traditional Galley Boy because I do love me a saucy burger. It was warm and cooked well. I got the potato teezers as a side. They have a hint of jalapeño, but it's, ahem, white people spicy lol. Absolutely adored my shake too, I got a mocha shake that was so decadent and tasty! My husband got some chicken strips and fries with a pumpkin pie shake. Definitely get the pumpkin shake if it's available and you're a pumpkin spice fan. We ordered Swensons via Door Dash last night. We have had a Swensons food truck at an office party before and the burgers were good. Last night we ordered a Galley burger and a double cheeseburger. I took a bite and could not figure out why it tasted sweet. I ordered mine with lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo. At first I thought they may have used Miracle Whip but no, regular mayonnaise. Then I took a bite of the burger alone and it was sweet! My boyfriend found it to be the same with his! This cannot possibly be how they make burgers now?? Will not return to find out. read more

My friend has wanted to come to one of these for a wile so today was that day as we just wanted burgers and this was along the way so it was that kinda day. Before living here I've never heard of Swensons and after seeing them a few times around town it was about that time to try em so that we did the first thing I noticed is their staff is running to your car like they are in a full sprint to get to you I was like wow that's crazy and cool at the same time! Seeing we had never been here before they gave us a menu and told us to turn our headlights on once we were ready to order or if we needed anything else after we received our food. Of the menu I went with a galley boy it was a smaller size for a signature burger of theirs but it was good it seemed to have a taste of horseradish and bbq sauce to it which made for a yummy and kinda unique taste overall pretty good! Of the other choices I also went with their beef and veggie soup it was flavorful and yummy the best part about it is I found myself dipping my burger into it and I must say that was where it's at as it just made something that was that good just that much better! My friend and I shared some fries they were just fries nothin special other than fries but hey that's what fries are suposto be! Overall cool little drive-in I'm sure I'll visit one again sometime as the prices were right and the food was definitely better than some of those other fast food restaurants so who knows when but it definitely isn't out of the question! read more

If you're a Clevelander, you know and love Swensons. So when you spot one and you're in the wild, it's almost an inevitable rite of passage that you find a way to stop there. I do believe this is the newest location within the last year or two. It's nestled near some main shopping centers, so if you're in the area hitting up a big chain store, it's an easy trip (that's how we ended up here). I've been to a handful of Swensons, but this was by far the fastest one. It was lightening fast, and I mean that literally. Even in the pouring rain, these hardworking high school aged girls were literally running at lightening speed to deliver our food. Swensons is always so reliable and they have their service model down to a science. Lights on for service! As always, we got the greasy goodness we were looking for. I always recommend that newbies try out the signature Galley Boy, a side of potato teezers, and a milkshake of phosphate. If you're dining in, it's always fun to eat a meal at Swensons and feel like you're back at a 1950s drive-up. Thanks Swensons for always being so delicious and quintessentially Cleveland! read more

The waiters ran around the cars, took orders and delivered the food because you sit in your car! They were fun to watch. Swenson's Drive-In is an institution in the Cleveland-Akron area. The burgers are good and cheap. The fried mushrooms and poppers are good. Take the kids. Grab a burger and shake. Good place. Bathrooms are outside at the end of the building. I really like Swenson's. The sandwich that they are known for, the Galley Boy, is terrific. To be honest, I order every time. That always leaves me with what kind of side dish should I get. This is the one negative. I feel like their fries are meh. The tater tots are okay, but normal ones you could buy yourself at the grocery store and the potato tweezer have a little too much of a kick. I also thinks it just takes a little too long. This was a much better experience than when I went here 2 years ago as I decided to give Swensons a try again. I got the plain cheeseburger with fries, bbq sauce, and an orange shake. I had doubts that it would be good again, but I was overall fairly pleased. I don't like the burgers are small and scrunched up, but it at least tasted good. The fries were good and crispy. Another new experience. You pull in and they come to you. Unfortunately my experience was not a good one. I asked for a kids banana milkshake and got strawberry banana. My burger was a double with lettuce, ketchup, mayo, and a pickle. I had no pickles or mayo and there was a tomato. There wasn't much ice cream for the float. They took my food and drink back and corrected it. The total wait time was 30 minutes and they were not busy. Everyone was done eating by the time my food came. Food is always delicious. Kids working are always super prompt and polite. One of my go to place to grab a quick lunch or dinner.

A bit disappointed in the food, for all the hype this place gets, I just don't think the food is anything special. I ordered a burger with several toppings, and the flavor of the beef was a little off. I also shared the jalapeño poppers (which had barely any jalapeños in them), fries, shrimp dinner, and fried mushrooms. All of the fried stuff just comes out as clumpy fried dough. I didn't like any of it. After the food, we decided to order the brownie sundae. It actually wasn't very good which is surprising because you'd think at least dessert would be tasty at a drive in kind of place. But the ice cream was not creamy, and the brownie was just like something you'd get in a package. At least, the prices are reasonable for what you get. The whole car ate for like $25. I think I tried Swenson's once like ten years ago. Since I've been on a burger kick this month I decided to go ahead and give it another shot. Not bad, not bad. I'm not a big fan of a drive-in, I just want to get my food and go especially when I'm dressed like a bag lady who has seen a rough life on the streets and doesn't want to make eye contact on a rainy dreary day. BUT the kids working were speedy and friendly, so much so I felt obligated to tip. Listen though, if I wanted to tip and chat I wouldn't be getting take out from my car. Clearly I'm a curmudgeon today. But if you like eating in your car and you're a friendlier person than I, then definitely give Swenson's a try. I sampled their Galley Boy burger, a chili cheese dog, a shake, and these jalapeno cheddar potato puff things. The burger didn't look that appealing (little smashed, not much to it with no toppings), but it was good and cooked perfectly. Not 100% sold on their sweet BBQ onion sauce, but not bad. The chili on the hot dog was on the sweeter side, and I would have preferred it to be grilled (kid said they cook it in water), but a decent eat. Same with the strawberry shake (kid said they use syrup but would add fresh strawberries) and the puffs. Nothing tasted overly greasy/chemically/processed. I was satisfied with this fast food meal. Not sure I would go again because this isn't my normal thing, but I'm open, possibly. Would definitely pick this over Culver's though. read more

I've always been a Swenson's fan but the Avon location is top notch! The food, as always is great, but what has impressed me the most is their customer service! Due to COVID, we celebrated my God son's birthday in the garage with food from Swensons. They were willing and able to accommodate all requests, including bagging each family's order separately! Even more impressive though, when they picked up the food, the manager had a gift bag of gifts for his birthday! The manager had asked around to find out what types of toys a 1 year old would like. Additionally, they asked the family's permission to put a happy birthday greeting on their sign! It was the sweetest and the best customer service! Destroys the wildly overrated In-N-Out Burger which is OK, but Californians hype the heck out of it. Sides and shakes are also very good. So glad to see Swensons growth hasn't harmed their product. This suburban outpost is as good as the West Akron and North Hill locations which I have driving miles to for years. Swenson's is one Cleveland-area specific restaurant that I will miss the most, hands down. I really can't overstate how delicious all of their food is, it's one of those places that you want to work your way through everything on the menu but then everything you've tried is so good that always just want to order the same thing. Which to me, is always a sign of a good restaurant. Clearly the classic is the Galley Boy, and I love that they have a few vegan/vegetarian choices (both a veggie burger patty Galley Boy and a sandwich with only vegetables on). Their milkshakes are good, but the brownie sundae is out of this world good. Get one immediately but ignore the overdose of hot fudge in your calorie count. Because it's worth it. I've been to this Avon location a few times and the servers are always so very polite, you feel like you're in good hands. I've gone during COVID and have felt completely safe. For those that are back into spots challenged (okay, well I'm not challenged, I have a rear camera I'm just lazy), there are spots where you can pull in without backing up into a spot. It's right by all the major shopping centers in a newly paved road off of them, so it's very convenient. And it's well priced. It's really just a well-run restaurant, and I'm proud they're a part of Cleveland. read more

I have jumped on the bandwagon to offer praise for Swenson's, joining the likes of Lebron James himself who has been known to enjoy a galley boy. First off, the service was ridiculously fast. I pulled in and turned my lights on and almost immediately a kid comes flying from around the corner to take my order. About 10 minutes of listening to the radio later our food comes out hot with friendly service. I actually did not get the galley boy. I got a cheeseburger, potato puffs (tots) and an Ohio drink which I am pretty sure is cherry and ginger ale or sprite. My burger was great and pretty large for the price. My drink was a little too sweet but hey, "when at Swensons..." I am a tots fan and was pleased with the result. Overall, I get the hype. When my husband and I began planning our son's first birthday party during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, we weren't really sure where to begin. We knew that the celebration would have to be limited to a small number of people, but also wanted to be sure that we were able to keep the party as socially distanced as possible. Based off of our previous experience with Swensons as well as the variety that the menu offers, we decided to give the Avon, Ohio location a call only a few days before the party. That was the best decision we could have made. The shift manager, Anthony, referred me to the general manager, TJ. I have worked with many restaurants and caterers in the past, and TJ's customer service skills really takes the cake. He was so positive and organized from the minute we first spoke on the phone. I could tell that he loved his work, and was ready to work with me to create the safest celebration possible. TJ was immediately on the same page about our catering order for 13 people having as little "touch points" as possible. He was easy to work with to place our specific orders, and was in communication with me if he needed any clarification or had any questions. The day before the party, TJ called me, and I wrongly assumed that there was a problem. What he was actually calling about was to ask my permission to put my son's name on their sign. I was thrilled! What a special thing for a first birthday! He sent over a picture when it was up so we were able to head over to take pictures to remember this special day. On the day of the party, I went to pick up the food. Everything was ready at the time I requested it, and it was so neatly packaged in bags according to how they had been ordered. Every order was perfect from the food items to the specific condiments requested. The food was hot and fresh, so I knew that it had been carefully timed out. Everyone was so impressed! Along with the bags of food that were delivered to my car, TJ and Anthony also had a gift bag in hand. Attached to the gift bag was a nametag that said "Trainee" with my son's name printed out on it as well as gifts that they had purchased to make his birthday even more special. I was floored! I would have never expected that gesture, and their customer service was more than I could have ever imagined. Later that afternoon, TJ reached out to me to ensure that everything had been as we ordered, everyone enjoyed their food, and to wish my son happy birthday again from his "Swensons family." I was impressed from the first time I spoke with TJ until that last interaction on the afternoon of the party, and he kept outdoing himself. I had heard an advertisement saying Swenson's was the best burger in Ohio so since I was in the Avon area today I decided to try it.I ordered the galley burger, milkshake and fried mushrooms. Just like Goldilocks and the three bears, the mushrooms were terribly salty, the burger was in need of some salt- very bland and tasteless, but the milkshake was ok. I won't be going back...honestly I can't understand people who gave it 5 star teviews.
