We enjoy Sweets and I am kinda surprised by the low 3.4 star rating as of writing this. So here's an updated rundown of the store as of my experience 3 days ago: Good assortment of dark and milk lollies, nonpareils, and other confections (including pre packed truffle boxes) you could easily pick up, pay, and go. The truffle case was well stocked aside from their pumpkin spice truffle :( The fudge case as also well stocked. My personal favorites here are: Gourmet Dark Fudge Sea Salt Caramel Fudge Rocky Road Fudge Nut Fudge All the turtles The lavendar, cognac, pumpkin spice, and Irish cream truffles Nonpareils Caramel Apple This is how I see Sweets. It's definitely about Sees candy plus FUDGE. There are a few other chocolate shops that have a more gourmet selection and hit a bit better, but Sweets is for sure a sold 4 stars. It's a small space that can get cramped (if they ask you to wait outside, it's usually because theyve met fire code capacity fyi) but they do a great job giving people one on one service. Don't let the 3.4 star rating for you, you will get some good confections here :-) read more

Cute local shop with quality treats! Their fudge is the best, with the perfect buttery texture and packed with chocolate . I recently tried their chocolate caramel covered apple, ended up eating it a day after I bought it and it was still fresh (kept in fridge beforehand). They always have free samples of their chocolate fudge to try before you buy, and the staff and very friendly and helpful. You were able to smell it outside. What a tempting aroma it was. I ordered a caramel latte, which was just perfect. They had a sample of their fudge which was delicious. The woman behind the counter told me, "just so you know they are not crisp apples." I was like what about the ones labeled "crisp" (those were $15). She said those weren't crisp either. We entered to buy things for the family to enjoy after lunch and a guy behind the counter immediately chastised us to stay behind a line when we approached the display case even though it wasn't busy. I felt awkwardly unwelcome immediately and left to wait outside although my family stayed in "line". Passed by recently and was genuinely impressed that this place is STILL enforcing their antiquated and unnecessary COVID-era entry stations, as if time just stopped there. Reading the reviews, it's clear nothing else has changed either: the same unnecessary obstacles and the same consistently rude staff. After years of complaints, it's obvious the owners have zero interest in listening to customers nor enforcing basic customer service standards. A chocolate shop with a fairly large assortment including candy apples. Not cheap, it's a fun way to get some sweet treats. I didn't indulge in the truffles or the fudge, but went with a few nut-based chocolate treats. Solid! I wouldn't say the most luxe chocolate I've had, but the homemade peanut butter cups were pretty good and the chocolate cashew clusters were solid. My son loved his chocolate covered marshmallows. Overall, an old timey chocolate shop delivering up some mid range chocolates. While I don't know if I'd return quickly, I wouldn't be opposed to trying it again. read more

Today I walked in to a staff of three or four people who were working hard on all the treats. Instead of a greeting, I was told where to stand, and where to wait with nothing else said. I wanted to browse, but felt pressure to stand in a certain spot where they told me to, even though no one else was shopping. Just after that, another customer walked in behind me, and they immediately told them where to stand, as if this was still some sort of Covid protocol. I told the other customer to go ahead of me because I didn't know what I wanted, and as she stepped up to "station 1" (labeled, which was so weird), they asked her what she wanted and she said "I don't know I haven't had time to look." I totally related to what she said, sadly. I felt chastised and rushed instead of enticed to look at all their delicious looking treats. I decided someone else could have my money, so went across the street to better atmosphere, delicious chocolates, and a much warmer welcome. My husband and I stopped by Sweets Handmade Candies shop while strolling around downtown Truckee. I mean, how could you not? The place not only looks inviting but the smell of fudge and toffee being made was mouth-watering. Cute confectionary. It was small inside, so they advise guests to wait to be called up by their party. We were helped by a friendly young gentleman. Loved his enthusiasm for their products. I got a few items to try including a s'mores bite, a white chocolate truffle, and their variation of moose munch (popcorn with caramel and chocolate drizzle). The s'mores bite was my favorite, which was a fresh marshmallow coated with graham cracker and a drizzle chocolate syrup. The white chocolate truffle was alright. I would choose See's any day. I get the popcorn, but it's wasn't for me. The caramel was so thick that it kept getting stuck to my teeth. For that reason, I wasn't a fan. read more

I love this little spot... sadly we are all our treats before I could take pictures!! Service is friendly once you arrive at your "station", guy policing the queue could be a smidge more smiley with reminders, but that's okay. The moment you hit the door you are in heaven with the smell of fresh fudge and other treats in the works. I loved the traditional caramel apple with peanuts. My daughter enjoyed the coconut haystacks and Oreo Blast candy, though it's seriously sweet and good in small doses. Our family absolutely love their fudge. Tahoe Turtle is the favorite! The Carmel apples (ours didn't make it home for a picture). The Carmel is delightful. Sweets Handmade Candies is a cute little candy shop located in the heart of downtown Truckee. As you walk near the candy shop, you can smell the aroma of homemade candy being made and it just draws you in. As you walk in the employees greet you right away and you feel welcomed. There's shelves of different types of handmade candy bagged up and ready for purchase and there's also a counter area of assorted candy, fudge, and other goodies ready for the taking. We purchased a bag of cashew brittle, caramellows (soft caramel and marshmallow), caramel corn and we got a piece of white chocolate and peanut covered toffee. The cashew brittle was crunchy goodness and melts in your mouth. The caramellows were soft and chewy and were a definite favorite out of the bunch. I just wanted to keep eating them. The caramel corn was fresh and had pecans mixed in which made for a great taste and crunch. The white chocolate and peanut covered toffee was good but nothing amazing. Overall the experience at Sweets was good. The only inconvenience was the employees kept pushing us through the candy shop. Customers enter through one side and exit the other and as we were looking and deciding on which candy to purchase, the employees kept asking us to keep moving through. A little advice to the employees....when you have customers who are spending over $50 in candy, give them a few minutes to decide. Horrible experience. There was probably like 3 other people in the store. When I walked in, nobody greeted me. I start kind of just looking around and one of the workers (glasses, short, beard,, heavy frame) immediately goes "you have to wait right there, you can look right there, it's the same thing on both sides" I immediately was confused because the first words to come out of this workers mouth was just rudeness. I look over at him and I was like "I'm just looking" and he immediately replies back with another rude remark "you can look right there it's the same thing on both sides" At this point I'm irritated because I know this worker is not talking to me with so much rudeness. I immediately reply back and say "and I said I'm just looking" and he immediately replies "I'm just saying you can look right there" At this point I'm actually over it and I respond "Ok I'm leaving" and he goes "ok well I was just saying". The candies and fudge is delicious. We ended up going back again the next day. The caramel apples are to die for. The caramel is so smooth and fresh. Our children loved the lollipops. We ended up buy 8 6oz fudge and 4 caramel apples. I will definitely come back or order more online to try the other flavors. Service was quick. Had a set of assorted dark chocolate truffles mailed out to me. I'm not a total connoisseur, but have had my fair share of chocolates and these are excellent. I was a bit surprised given it was from a small shop outside a major city. But these are certainly on par with fancy Recchiuiti truffles I've had before. All of the flavors in my assortment were fantastic. Full of wonderful flavor that lingered! The smell of this store really entices you to come in, but the quality of the candy doesn't really live up to the price nor your expectations. The store enforces social distancing by only serving customers at a station. You wait at the entrance of the store and some guy will yell at you even if you take one step beyond a certain line. They should really make the sign for the line or cut off point more obvious. I understand and appreciate how covid conscious their practices are. However, it also gave us pressure to decide what we wanted to buy more quickly instead of being able to browse all the options since a server was just staring and awkwardly waiting for you while you looked at the candies. It felt super rushed, so I guess this is just something to keep in mind when visiting. Also, the glass protector between you and the server made it a bit hard to hear what the server was saying. When we asked for clarification for something to be repeated, the server literally yelled. It was a very uncomfortable feeling. Another thing to note is that the store advertises their samples, but they literally only let us sample one thing which was chocolate fudge. It was overly sweet for my liking. The chocolates are about $50 per pound, which feels like too much. Even the boxes of chocolates they sell for a box are way overpriced. I get this is a small business, but one tiny chocolate ending up costing more than a dollar is just not worth it. We bought some truffles but they just tasted like regular chocolates, nothing special. Overall, this shop felt very much like a tourist trap. read more

We love this store! The young man helping us today was so kind, patient, and helpful. We ended up getting 4 sea salt caramels, cookies and cream fudge, rocky road fudge, a caramel apple with pecans and several toffee pieces- all about $40. We didn't feel it was too expensive based on the quality of goods and the face we are in a tourist area. The kids had a blast picking it all out and the young man made it fun. The kids thought the cookie fudge was the best they had ever tasted. We can't wait to come again, what a great memory maker. read more

Zero stars if I could. The owner is soooo racist. Do not go in here unless your white. As a matter of fact, if you only want white people to enter your store and you're going to think other people can't afford your candy then state that at the entrance. The owner is so rude and didn't keep his eye off of my family and I. The worst part is he's not even good at hiding it and thought we don't understand or speak english. He kept whispering to his staff to figure out what was going on because we all kept ordering separately. As if anyone if taking out of his store without paying. He didn't offer to help us at first and when he did he had some pretty stupid remarks. However, when two white ladies walked in he offered them samples and was being so friendly. The place looks cool from the outside. We had the popcorn with salted caramel and chocolate and a $30 box of truffles. The popcorn was just ok. The truffles all tasted the same even though it was a variety box. Overall it wasn't worth the premium price tag for just chocolate.
