After a fruitless trip for brunch at another eatery across town that for some reason was closed on a Friday at 12:55pm, I got online to scout-out another place where we could get breakfast and lunch faire. Yes!!! This place (Sweet Tea Express) we'd had a favorable lunch experience many months ago and I wasn't aware they also served breakfast. So here we went, and it's much closer to our house than the other one is anyways. This place has the BEST country gravy out of anywhere else I've tried in Grants Pass. I was so into my sausage patty with egg and hash-browns plate ( I added country gravy) that I forgot to take a picture; but my wife had a delicious Cobb Salad w/ Grilled Chicken (pic included), and our friend had biscuits & gravy with Eggs & Sausage (also pictured). Oh my STARS these are the kinds of breakfasts that one hopes to find, and are SO delicious!!!! Our server, Danielle, was a blessing and it was her first day on the job today (she told us)...and she did an amazing job. Very attentive & cordial. (Thank you) The ambiance was very relaxed, the establishment is clean as a whistle, and many locals were here enjoying their meals. Oh yes. I have only been to the Redwood Ave location, but I can say that their breakfast burritos are so good as well as their biscuits + gravy & their French toast. Their country biscuit + gravy plate is a great value, too. The ribs are delicious, as well. The only side I really love is their coleslaw. The baked beans are an acquired taste. They're way more vinegar/mustard forward than sweet (Carolina-style, I guess). The potato & the mac salads are very pepper-forward. I like black pepper, but the couple of times I've had their potato & mac salad it was a bit too heavy on the black pepper, for me. All in all a solid, local establishment. I came here for lunch today. I got the 3 meat trio and kids a couple cheese burgers. The service was good. After the food came i noticed it was just smothered in sauce and was way overbearing. The chicken was good. Pulled pork had way too much fat. The brisket tasted old and could taste the refrigerator. The biggest off putting thing I noticed after I ate was the cooks put their bare hands all over your food and do not wear gloves. After a couple face wipes and no hand washing I was in WOW mode. We came in on a Sunday morning around 9am and there were a few other guests but nothing crazy. We have 2 young kids so we like it when the places aren't packed and the food comes quickly. Excellent Food, I try to get something different each time I go in, I was addicted to the Tri-Tip Philly, The ribs are great. Sweet potato fries are large and good. The potato and Macaroni salad have a tiny bit of a bite to them I haven't figured out what spice that is yet but they are good also. Got the pulled pork, ribs, and "brisket" 3 pack last night and was really disappointed. It's fine if you want mediocre food but someone needs to learn to work the pit. The "brisket" (which in convinced was cheap carne asada braised in a bbq liquid) was just thin cuts of meat that was tougher than an old boot. The pulled pork was edible but over cooked so it has the consistency of meat mush, over all flavor wasn't too bad. The ribs were the winners out all, but that's not saying much. Other than being drowned in sauce they were tender and and had an overall decent mouth feel. Now before you start calling me a picky eater, that I am not I do expect better quality though and as long as I know what I'm getting myself into, but I was expecting more for this and as someone who loves food, I would want a heads up from a food head before I spent my money. read more

I went to Sweet Tea this morning, and as usual had a great breakfast. As I was waiting for my food I noticed some supplies had arrived earlier. As I looked at them I noticed a case of Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce. I don't know about you but any BBQ establishment worth their salt makes homemade sauce. If I wanted store bought sauce then I would buy it myself. I will continue to eat here, but only things without sauce. Will not pay the prices they charge for store bought sauce. This place is just "okay". The meats are decent enough. The sides are interesting. Most of the time, I don't really eat the sides because they're just mayo based and bland. Have gone to this restaurant at another location on the other side of grants pass and have always been impressed. When I found out there was one closer to home I couldn't wait to try it. My favorite meal is the corned beef hash breakfast burrito and is one of favorite meals I've ever had in Grants Pass. However, at this new location, they add ketchup to the burrito which completely overwhelmed the flavor profile of the burrito and ruined the whole experience for me. The rest of my party also had lackluster food that consisted of dry potatoes and the blandest chicken fried steak I've ever tasted. This location is not at all on par with the other one and I will always make the trip across town from now on. If you are going to share the same name on the restaurant then your food should be consistent across the board. They need to take lessons from their fellow franchisees. read more

This little restaurant just off of redwood avenue is a little hidden gem. So many delicious items to choose from. I love smoked meat and if you want something in the BBQ category this is a good place to go. The friendly and down to earth staff will treat you right and are straight forward with recommendations. I've never had a problem with sweet tea express in the past ever (we live in Medford). My husband and I don't eat pork so when I order breakfast I frequently sub all pork products with a hamburger patty or brisket. Never had a problem having this done until I came to the grants pass location. The young man taking my order said "we can't do that at all, sorry". Then another lady working there said they can't do it either. Then she asked the cook and he said we can do it for an upcharge. Which I said was absolutely fine. The lady then preceded to claim she never said they couldn't do it at all and argue with me about what was said. To top it off while I was standing there she turned back to the cook and loudly started talking garbage about me as I was standing there paying for our meals. I try to be kind to people always but she was so rude and awful it made it really difficult to even consider leaving a tip (which I did anyhow, it's not the first kids fault his boss is rude). read more
