Sweet Paper - 6/28/26 - Cards & Stationery Near Me - La Jolla, California

I was in La Jolla at the beginning of the month for a Wedding that my daughter was planning. I, of course, searched Yelp for stationery stores to browse (even though I gave up purchasing stationery during lent) What a fabulous little stationery shop! They have so many cute items for gift giving... so keep that in mind when you need a traditional gift shop to explore. I was on my Stationery Store finding activity (per usual) back in early March, and I happened upon this spot. Great selection of greeting cards and pens. The artist E. Francis merchandise, lots of cute Culinary items, and things for babies, etc. Staff was so friendly and helpful we spoke of many Stationery events and I promised to return during the San Diego Bookstore Crawl. Respectfully Reviewed. read more

This store is so cute and quaint. I was greeted immediately after entering. Shoutout to the friendly employee. I didn't catch her name. I spent more time than I should trying to pick a candle. The friendly cashier told me the story behind the local candle maker. I loved the story and being able to support local businesses! You will find cards, knickknacks, great stocking stuffers and fun gifts in this store. Prices run hire than normal. But I think it's worth your buck! read more

Multiple mistakes on my simple revised Summer 2026 Event Flyer by the Owner herself, Karly. She also tried 2-3 times to "up-sell" my tiny project to DOUBLE - TRIPLE the project price by saying my already provided event logo could use some "cleanup" for $$ & she could "rush" the simple print job by a few days for more $$$, both NOT wanted or needed or requested by me. As many other reviewers here & on G share, Owner Karly is THE problem here, she is very very evil, mean-spirited & difficult. Never again. Avoid. read more

Sweet Paper is my secret weapon for delivering memorable cards and curated gifts to everyone in my life. As a gal who prides herself on never missing a birthday, I've always adored independent card shops where I can find sweet cards and gifts that are more unique than the ones you find at a drug store. In addition to their excellent selection of cards and stationary, they offer beautiful custom work (weddings, holiday cards). I follow them on Instagram and everything I see of theirs is extremely tasteful and unique. If you're looking for a card, creating an invitation, or just want to pick up a cute gift for a friend- you've found your new spot! read more

This shop is SO cute for small gifts and after seeing a movie at the Lot we had to stop in before they closed. Pam was working and she was such a delight and let us wander through before she locked up. I could have been here for hours there is so much to see! If you are looking for holidays gifts definitely stop in everything is at a great price and they have a huge selection. read more

An awful experience to get wedding invites from them. 1. Everytime they sent a revision, something would be off. Like the names are not centered. Or there is a typo. Or the spacing is uneven, etc. 2. Once you point out all of the things to fix, they take forever to actually make the edits. Maybe 3-4 days. Multiple rounds of revisions means a lot of time waiting for them. 3. To top it all off, the owner would be very rude when we would talk to her on the phone. At the end of the day, the experience was so awful that we just paid the penalty to exit our contract, and we went with a much more enjoyable company. Edit to respond to owner: yup I use an anonymous name on Yelp so that's why you can't find me read more

The owner and her staff are so great. Super friendly. Beautifully curated and displayed gifts. I'm glad I ran out of time otherwise I would've spent way more money. As I walked around I kept being inspired to buy something for the people in my life--even me. read more

Just stopped in here after noticing it while I was walking around in the area. I noticed that they had an entire wall with albums of wedding invites and pulled one out to see some of their stationary design and was just looking around. I was scolded and told that I "am not able to even look at the albums or invites without an appointment". Was hoping to get an idea of invite and save the date styles they do as I'm getting married in 2025. This was a huge turn off for me and disappointing to not even be able to look around. What's the point of not even being able to look at the design albums before making an appointment to see if the styles and costs align with what customer is looking for? Won't be back, overall disappointing experience. Edited to add- the comment from the owner to my google review was rude and patronizing, reaffirming the point that I made above. Telling me to "get a wedding planner so I can actually understand the process"- how do you know that I don't already have one? Stating that I'm acting like it is a "Joann's fabrics." It's clear they didn't read the review to notice that I mentioned I was walking around in the area and happened across their shop and decided to stop inside. No where in the store is it listed that it is by appointment only. It really is not necessary to demean and scold customers. read more

I cannot say enough amazing things about Karly at Sweet Paper. From our very first conversation, they were professional, attentive, and truly understood my vision. The quality was absolutely top-notch, and our guests are still raving about how beautiful everything was. They made the process seamless and enjoyable for us! Such an incredible shop! It makes me feel good whenever I go in. I adore gifts and buying cute things. I never need fancy paper or invitations, but it's good to know this is an option for me if I ever do. The fave things I've bought here are flamingo slippers and a gorgeous cheese board. I love that there are so many options for gifts - and a clearance section too, haha. The staff are the friendliest I've ever seen and this makes this a must-stop whenever I'm passing through La Jolla! I like that they have expanded in space too - they're clearly doing something right... read more

This is a beautiful shop with so many lovely items to purchase! I spent way more than I should have, but couldn't resist! I bought many cards, a keychain, gift wrap, umbrella, and a tea towel. They have really great gifts, and an outstanding baby toy & clothing section. I can't wait to return! read more

Great little shop. They have an amazing selection and an entire card section dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion. I got to meet the story owner, Karly I think, she was very outgoing and helpful. I picked up some last minute stocking stuffers, the prices were reasonable and she offered to add me to their rewards club, which was nice. They also had a whole display of beautiful custom wedding invitations. 10/10 would recommend this place, especially if you are waiting for a table at one of the local restaurants. read more

Ok, it's Holiday Time... DURING a pandemic...and I may have bitten off more than I can chew. But thank goodness for the people at Sweet Paper in California! Let me explain: This morning, I had placed an order... Or at least I thought that I had placed an order. Sweet Paper seems to be a quirky little gift shop out near San Diego. I've been to La Jolla, but I've never been to this shop. But their online store has a very cute assortment of paper products that I wasn't sure if I could live without. They send me an email occasionally, and I guess that's how I wound up on their website. As usual, I found a basket full of merchandise... But then my life rolled out of control for a little while. And I realized that I didn't remember if I had ever completed the order or not. I went to my email, to see if I had completed the purchase... I truly couldn't remember. So I went back to the website and MINDFULLY placed an order. I was sure that this time I pressed the "buy" button. Mission accomplished. Fast forward to my weekly grocery shopping trip, and I glanced at my phone and realized that I had missed two calls from a number that I didn't recognize. Seeing that the caller had made multiple attempts to contact me, I was curious. AMAZINGLY, the caller was courteous enough to leave a voicemail! The caller was "Kayla" from Sweet Paper...She explained that she had noticed that I had placed two similar orders this morning, and she was just checking to make sure that that was my intent. I'm not sure about the experiences of most of your readers, but I have noticed a steady decline in "common sense" when it comes to customer service. At the risk of sounding like an old person, I am just going to point out that many employees don't have much interest in providing basic customer service anymore. It seems that the pandemic has sucked the life out of many retail employees. KAYLA is a GLARING exception! She noticed my unusual pair of orders and went out of her way to just check up and make sure that I had ordered what I had wanted to! I totally realize that there's an irony here in that I wasn't mindful of MY job, so at risk of being ridiculed for my own shortcomings, I want to give a public shout out to Kayla and to this company. Surely the company itself must encourage that type of initiative... or at least Sweet Paper knows how to hire great employees! Yes, she could've put the duplicate orders through, and I probably could have returned the duplicate items and gotten a refund... But she saved both of us a lot of work and unnecessary angst just by keeping her eyes open and by reaching out to me. She certainly went beyond what I had a right to expect. I am very grateful! I have not received the items yet, but I would encourage anyone to look through their online store and see the unique assortment that they offer. And I hope you have the good luck to run into Kayla if you need help! read more

I used Sweet Paper for my wedding invitations & day-of stationery and I couldn't be happier ! The designer were kind, patient and excellent at their jobs. The associates were exceptionally kind as well. I cannot recommend their services enough - they will truly go above and beyond to make sure your dream suite comes to life :) read more

Kayla is amazing. She helped me pick out the perfect wedding invitation. Super helpful from start to finish. She's friendly and has a beautiful eye for what looks great for a fantastic wedding invitation. Very happy and impressed with everything. It can be more expensive but it's worth it to have a jaw dropping wedding invitation. Highly recommend this store for fancy invitations and highly recommended you work with Kayla. read more

Sweet Paper is my "go to" whenever I need to pick up a quick and beautiful present or when I feel the need to walk around LJ. I can always count on an amazing experience visiting Sweet Paper because the Sweet owners take such pride in decorating their store so beautifully; it is a new and wonderful experience every time I visit. We have loved Sweet Paper since 2012 when Teresa helped us design our beautiful wedding invitations. We are thinking about renewing our wedding vows next year and will be visiting again soon! I love paper stores and Sweet Paper is no exception. I simply gave them 4/5 as I was more looking for the fun and unique do-dads paper stores usually offer. If you are looking for letter-press cards or even invitations I'd give this place a 5/5. Lots of Kate Spade stationary and other unique La Jolla letter-press coasters as such. Fun to browse for sure! read more

We went to Sweet Paper in order to print our wedding invitations, wedding program and menu, and save the date, and my wife and I couldn't be more happy about that. They are AMAZING! Why? Because they are able to do pretty much everything you can imagine, from the quality of the paper, its color thickness, to the fonts, to the silver or gold foiling, etc etc etc... We explored other options meanwhile but nothing was barely reaching the great quality and professionalism of Sweet Paper. Theresa and Kayla have been really the best during the entire process, they really paid attention to what we wanted, came up with very good suggestions about the design and details based on their experience (something you will never get if you choose to just print stuff online) and what was the result? All of our guests complimented our invitations and save the date, how beautiful they were, and several of them even said they were the most beautiful they have seen... Really I strongly encourage anyone who is getting married (or wants to print any type of invitations) to go to Sweet Paper, it's totally worth it, you won't be disappointed, and their price are totally fair. Thanks again Theresa and Kayla!! Part of the success of our wedding is because of your beautiful and elegant printing work! Daniel & Maryam read more

I SHOULD NOT HAVE LEARNED ABOUT THIS PLACE. I LIKE IT SO MUCH. MY POOR BUDGET. I am so lucky it's not near anywhere I go regularly, or else I would have no self control. The shop is small, but sooo charming. They have stationary, blank cards, all occasion cards, you can customize cards, get wax, stickers, ribbon, pens....anything you can think of papery! I bought a couple cards here, and must admit it's pricier than I can do on a regular basis, but I loveee the selection and I totally get inspired (I am an aspiring craft lady, currently operating and a 2nd grade level when it comes to paper crafts). Service is friendly, too! I would come back if I wanted a unique and beautiful card, or to give a thoughtful stationary gift. I want to go back now....ahhhhh Sweet Paper has won me over. read more

As a guy, I generally don't get into stores of this nature, but on a visit to San Diego, I happened upon this shop with a friend and was suitably impressed. Sure, there's no big screens with the game on, but there were enough cool knick-knacks to keep me occupied for a good half an hour. I'm a fool for toffee, and this place has the best I've come across in awhile! read more

Their selection, creative work and responsiveness deserve 5 stars. They made beautiful wedding invitations within 48 hours for me & did an excellent job helping me find appropriate wording. In fact, they went above & beyond. However, I was shocked at the price when all was said & done. I paid over $700 for 25 invitations. Serious?? Make sure you have a firm understanding of their pricing before committing your order. Live & learn. read more

Finally had some down time to get my butt here and let me tell you it's been over two months since I bookmarked this place on yelp! First off, it's a really cute store and the layout is small but has that homey feel to it. It is quite small than I had expected and wished they had more variety of cards to select from, this is coming from someone who buys a lot of handmade cards. BUT, I did find a few cute ones. And to add, I wasn't pleasantly welcomed either which was kind of not so surprising, but whatever I wasn't there to mingle and sip champs I was specifically there to buy some cards; yee! They also have cute little gifts and handmade stamps, which I was kind of leaning towards since I do adore personalized items; perhaps next time when I feel the need to be ignored once more. Other than that, I love me some paper! :D read more

I left a copy of the latest "San Diego" magazine out on the counter, strategically turned to the feature on Sweet Paper, an adorable little stationary shop in La Jolla (I'd put that in quotes, but I don't know if I got it right, and I'm too lazy to get up and get the magazine to verify). One week later, the hubs and I are riding our bikes (yay!) up La Jolla Boulevard when, suddenly, he veers off into a super-tiny parking lot in front of a super-adorable house. Apparently, the magazine strategy worked. We were locking up outside of Sweet Paper. And, oh, what sweet paper it is. Adorable letterpress offerings I haven't seen anywhere else in San Diego. Great invites (drink coasters for cocktail parties?! awesome!) and journals (love the washi goldfish coptic bound). My favorite find: the canvas stationary pouches. I, for one, have been favoring the quart-sized ZipLoc, so an upgrade to a vintage-stamp-screened canvas envelope seems almost luxurious. And the staff (can you call it staff when there's only one person manning the store) tolerated my four-year-old's over-enthusastic appreciation of the paper butterflies hanging from multiple surfaces of the store. All in all, some great offerings, and a few crafty additions (label your own handmades, for example) that made me smile. Would have liked to see a more varied selection of card makers and a few books on the art of writing, but, all-in-all, worth the almost-accident pitstop. I'll definitely be back for that stationary pouch. read more

Sweet paper is an absolutely charming store. Their customer service is impeccable and Theresa was such a joy to work with. My first trip to Sweet Paper was in November to pick out wedding invitations. After sleeping on it, I wasn't happy with my selection. Without question, Theresa had my MOH and me come back in and assisted with beautiful custom invitations. Theresa is knowledgeable, patient, and very accommodating with what can be an overwhelming process. Today, my invitations arrived and they are so perfect! I couldn't be more pleased with how they turned out and would highly recommend this store to anyone searching for invitations or any other "Sweet Paper." :) read more

Danger! Use caution. This place is highly overrated on yelp. They have no idea how to run a business. I WOULD GIVE ZERO STARS IF THAT WAS AN OPTION. To make a very log story short I was not given proper information about a product, then I was over charged. And then when I caught the over charge it was time consuming to the owner so she thought it okay to charge me for her time. This is NOT THE WAY to win customers. She is the owner, she is representing a product, she should know that product and give ALL the information to the consumer in order to make an informed decision about the purchase. Needless to say I FELT ROBBED. Reported to BBB. read more

We ordered our wedding invitation suite and day-of stationery from Sweet Paper and could not be happier with the beautiful stationery or amazing service that we received. We mainly worked with Theresa, who is extremely knowledgeable about stationery and extremely responsive and thoughtful. Theresa said multiple times that she wanted us to have the perfect stationary for us, and she delivered 100%. Katie also helped us and is equally delightful. Theresa and Katie have a great eye for design, and they were terrific resources on style, text, and etiquette. Sweet Paper has an impressive range of stationery options. The possibilities would have felt overwhelming, but Theresa guided us through the selection process in an enjoyable and easy way. Theresa met with us multiple times and answered our many questions patiently and thoroughly. We appreciated how Theresa respected our aesthetic choices and budget, and she made us feel relaxed and at home in Sweet Paper's charming space. After we selected our invitation suite, Theresa helped us select day-of stationery options, such as place cards and menus. The day-of stationery complemented our invitation suite perfectly. We recommend Sweet Paper wholeheartedly for weddings! On a non-wedding note, we have found charming stationery or gifts every time we have gone to Sweet Paper. The store has lovely and unique inventory and displays. This family-owned shop is a true asset to La Jolla, and shopping at Sweet Paper is always a treat! read more

Wow, just wow. I was honestly blown away at the attention we were given during our appointment. Champagne and chocolate while looking at stationary for our wedding...yes please! Although, it was in the morning and we did not partake in this lovely offer, we appreciated it very much. We spent an hour and half with Theresa and couldn't be happier with the result so far. I am beyond thrilled that our invitations will be customized to meet our interests as that is not something we could find online. I've been so lucky to have such great wedding vendors, and Sweet Paper was one of them! My experience with Sweet Paper was fantastic. Theresa and Julie were absolutely amazing. Theresa was super attentive to what my fiance and I wanted, and Julie designed an amazing custom invitation. They really took into account our budget to get the look we wanted, and ultimately, I could not walk away from the little extras :) My fiance and I could not be more pleased with the end result of our letter press invites, and experience with Sweet Paper.
