I was in La Jolla at the beginning of the month for a Wedding that my daughter was planning. I, of course, searched Yelp for stationery stores to browse (even though I gave up purchasing stationery during lent) What a fabulous little stationery shop! They have so many cute items for gift giving... so keep that in mind when you need a traditional gift shop to explore. I was on my Stationery Store finding activity (per usual) back in early March, and I happened upon this spot. Great selection of greeting cards and pens. The artist E. This store is so cute and quaint. I was greeted immediately after entering. Shoutout to the friendly employee. I didn't catch her name. I spent more time than I should trying to pick a candle. The friendly cashier told me the story behind the local candle maker. I loved the story and being able to support local businesses! You will find cards, knickknacks, great stocking stuffers and fun gifts in this store. Prices run hire than normal. But I think it's worth your buck! read more

Pam was working and she was such a delight and let us wander through before she locked up. I could have been here for hours there is so much to see! An awful experience to get wedding invites from them. 1. Everytime they sent a revision, something would be off. Like the names are not centered. Or there is a typo. Or the spacing is uneven, etc. 2. Once you point out all of the things to fix, they take forever to actually make the edits. Maybe 3-4 days. Multiple rounds of revisions means a lot of time waiting for them. 3. To top it all off, the owner would be very rude when we would talk to her on the phone. At the end of the day, the experience was so awful that we just paid the penalty to exit our contract, and we went with a much more enjoyable company. Just stopped in here after noticing it while I was walking around in the area. I noticed that they had an entire wall with albums of wedding invites and pulled one out to see some of their stationary design and was just looking around. I was scolded and told that I "am not able to even look at the albums or invites without an appointment". Was hoping to get an idea of invite and save the date styles they do as I'm getting married in 2025. This was a huge turn off for me and disappointing to not even be able to look around. What's the point of not even being able to look at the design albums before making an appointment to see if the styles and costs align with what customer is looking for? Won't be back, overall disappointing experience. Edited to add- the comment from the owner to my google review was rude and patronizing, reaffirming the point that I made above. Telling me to "get a wedding planner so I can actually understand the process"- how do you know that I don't already have one? Stating that I'm acting like it is a "Joann's fabrics." It's clear they didn't read the review to notice that I mentioned I was walking around in the area and happened across their shop and decided to stop inside. Such an incredible shop! It makes me feel good whenever I go in. I adore gifts and buying cute things. I never need fancy paper or invitations, but it's good to know this is an option for me if I ever do. The fave things I've bought here are flamingo slippers and a gorgeous cheese board. Ok, it's Holiday Time... DURING a pandemic...and I may have bitten off more than I can chew. But thank goodness for the people at Sweet Paper in California! Let me explain: This morning, I had placed an order... Or at least I thought that I had placed an order. Sweet Paper seems to be a quirky little gift shop out near San Diego. I've been to La Jolla, but I've never been to this shop. But their online store has a very cute assortment of paper products that I wasn't sure if I could live without. They send me an email occasionally, and I guess that's how I wound up on their website. As usual, I found a basket full of merchandise... But then my life rolled out of control for a little while. And I realized that I didn't remember if I had ever completed the order or not. I went to my email, to see if I had completed the purchase... I truly couldn't remember. So I went back to the website and MINDFULLY placed an order. I was sure that this time I pressed the "buy" button. Mission accomplished. Fast forward to my weekly grocery shopping trip, and I glanced at my phone and realized that I had missed two calls from a number that I didn't recognize. Seeing that the caller had made multiple attempts to contact me, I was curious. AMAZINGLY, the caller was courteous enough to leave a voicemail! The caller was "Kayla" from Sweet Paper...She explained that she had noticed that I had placed two similar orders this morning, and she was just checking to make sure that that was my intent. I'm not sure about the experiences of most of your readers, but I have noticed a steady decline in "common sense" when it comes to customer service. At the risk of sounding like an old person, I am just going to point out that many employees don't have much interest in providing basic customer service anymore. It seems that the pandemic has sucked the life out of many retail employees. KAYLA is a GLARING exception! She noticed my unusual pair of orders and went out of her way to just check up and make sure that I had ordered what I had wanted to! I totally realize that there's an irony here in that I wasn't mindful of MY job, so at risk of being ridiculed for my own shortcomings, I want to give a public shout out to Kayla and to this company. Surely the company itself must encourage that type of initiative... or at least Sweet Paper knows how to hire great employees! Yes, she could've put the duplicate orders through, and I probably could have returned the duplicate items and gotten a refund... But she saved both of us a lot of work and unnecessary angst just by keeping her eyes open and by reaching out to me. She certainly went beyond what I had a right to expect. I am very grateful! I have not received the items yet, but I would encourage anyone to look through their online store and see the unique assortment that they offer. I can always count on an amazing experience visiting Sweet Paper because the Sweet owners take such pride in decorating their store so beautifully; it is a new and wonderful experience every time I visit. We have loved Sweet Paper since 2012 when Teresa helped us design our beautiful wedding invitations. We are thinking about renewing our wedding vows next year and will be visiting again soon! We went to Sweet Paper in order to print our wedding invitations, wedding program and menu, and save the date, and my wife and I couldn't be more happy about that. They are AMAZING! Why? Because they are able to do pretty much everything you can imagine, from the quality of the paper, its color thickness, to the fonts, to the silver or gold foiling, etc etc etc... We explored other options meanwhile but nothing was barely reaching the great quality and professionalism of Sweet Paper. Theresa and Kayla have been really the best during the entire process, they really paid attention to what we wanted, came up with very good suggestions about the design and details based on their experience (something you will never get if you choose to just print stuff online) and what was the result? All of our guests complimented our invitations and save the date, how beautiful they were, and several of them even said they were the most beautiful they have seen... Really I strongly encourage anyone who is getting married (or wants to print any type of invitations) to go to Sweet Paper, it's totally worth it, you won't be disappointed, and their price are totally fair. I SHOULD NOT HAVE LEARNED ABOUT THIS PLACE. I LIKE IT SO MUCH. MY POOR BUDGET. I am so lucky it's not near anywhere I go regularly, or else I would have no self control. The shop is small, but sooo charming. They have stationary, blank cards, all occasion cards, you can customize cards, get wax, stickers, ribbon, pens....anything you can think of papery! I bought a couple cards here, and must admit it's pricier than I can do on a regular basis, but I loveee the selection and I totally get inspired (I am an aspiring craft lady, currently operating and a 2nd grade level when it comes to paper crafts). I left a copy of the latest "San Diego" magazine out on the counter, strategically turned to the feature on Sweet Paper, an adorable little stationary shop in La Jolla (I'd put that in quotes, but I don't know if I got it right, and I'm too lazy to get up and get the magazine to verify). One week later, the hubs and I are riding our bikes (yay!) up La Jolla Boulevard when, suddenly, he veers off into a super-tiny parking lot in front of a super-adorable house. Apparently, the magazine strategy worked. We were locking up outside of Sweet Paper. And, oh, what sweet paper it is. Adorable letterpress offerings I haven't seen anywhere else in San Diego. Great invites (drink coasters for cocktail parties?! awesome!) and journals (love the washi goldfish coptic bound). My favorite find: the canvas stationary pouches. I, for one, have been favoring the quart-sized ZipLoc, so an upgrade to a vintage-stamp-screened canvas envelope seems almost luxurious. And the staff (can you call it staff when there's only one person manning the store) tolerated my four-year-old's over-enthusastic appreciation of the paper butterflies hanging from multiple surfaces of the store. All in all, some great offerings, and a few crafty additions (label your own handmades, for example) that made me smile. Would have liked to see a more varied selection of card makers and a few books on the art of writing, but, all-in-all, worth the almost-accident pitstop. Finally had some down time to get my butt here and let me tell you it's been over two months since I bookmarked this place on yelp! First off, it's a really cute store and the layout is small but has that homey feel to it. It is quite small than I had expected and wished they had more variety of cards to select from, this is coming from someone who buys a lot of handmade cards. BUT, I did find a few cute ones. And to add, I wasn't pleasantly welcomed either which was kind of not so surprising, but whatever I wasn't there to mingle and sip champs I was specifically there to buy some cards; yee! They also have cute little gifts and handmade stamps, which I was kind of leaning towards since I do adore personalized items; perhaps next time when I feel the need to be ignored once more. My first trip to Sweet Paper was in November to pick out wedding invitations. After sleeping on it, I wasn't happy with my selection. Without question, Theresa had my MOH and me come back in and assisted with beautiful custom invitations. Theresa is knowledgeable, patient, and very accommodating with what can be an overwhelming process. Today, my invitations arrived and they are so perfect! Danger! Use caution. This place is highly overrated on yelp. They have no idea how to run a business. I WOULD GIVE ZERO STARS IF THAT WAS AN OPTION. To make a very log story short I was not given proper information about a product, then I was over charged. And then when I caught the over charge it was time consuming to the owner so she thought it okay to charge me for her time. This is NOT THE WAY to win customers. She is the owner, she is representing a product, she should know that product and give ALL the information to the consumer in order to make an informed decision about the purchase. I've been so lucky to have such great wedding vendors, and Sweet Paper was one of them! My experience with Sweet Paper was fantastic. Theresa and Julie were absolutely amazing. Theresa was super attentive to what my fiance and I wanted, and Julie designed an amazing custom invitation. Of course our invites were more than we had hoped to pay, but it was NOT because of any pressure from Theresa or Julie. They really took into account our budget to get the look we wanted, and ultimately, I could not walk away from the little extras :) My fiance and I could not be more pleased with the end result of our letter press invites, and experience with Sweet Paper. Just picked up the wedding shower invitations I had done by Desiree at Sweet Paper. They are perfect! The labels I had made with them made addressing so easy and they were so unique. I injured my left hand and am in a splint so the gals at Sweet Paper addressed, stuffed and sealed all my invitations right there for me knowing it would have been a struggle. I am actually writing this review with one hand. Anyway, the customer service is fabulous and the end product amazing. Highly recommend them! read more
