This store is so cute and quaint. I was greeted immediately after entering. Shoutout to the friendly employee. I didn't catch her name. I spent more time than I should trying to pick a candle. The friendly cashier told me the story behind the local candle maker. I loved the story and being able to support local businesses! You will find cards, knickknacks, great stocking stuffers and fun gifts in this store. Prices run hire than normal. But I think it's worth your buck!

Just stopped in here after noticing it while I was walking around in the area. I noticed that they had an entire wall with albums of wedding invites and pulled one out to see some of their stationary design and was just looking around. I was scolded and told that I "am not able to even look at the albums or invites without an appointment". Was hoping to get an idea of invite and save the date styles they do as I'm getting married in 2025. This was a huge turn off for me and disappointing to not even be able to look around. What's the point of not even being able to look at the design albums before making an appointment to see if the styles and costs align with what customer is looking for? Won't be back, overall disappointing experience. Edited to add- the comment from the owner to my google review was rude and patronizing, reaffirming the point that I made above. Telling me to "get a wedding planner so I can actually understand the process"- how do you know that I don't already have one? Stating that I'm acting like it is a "Joann's fabrics." It's clear they didn't read the review to notice that I mentioned I was walking around in the area and happened across their shop and decided to stop inside. No where in the store is it listed that it is by appointment only. It really is not necessary to demean and scold customers.

They actually have two separate stores, one dedicated to canvas and one just for thread. Everyone there is helpful and kind, and the owner, Vicky, is especially knowledgeable. I think she may be misunderstood in some reviews. She's not overly bubbly, but she is absolutely not unkind, just straightforward and very good at what she does. The only downside is that they're only open on weekdays with pretty limited hours. Otherwise, I truly think this LNS should be on everyone's list to visit!

It was about $30 cheaper so I set about finding it on the website and was told "you came knowing what you want" and after I as on the website for a few minutes suddenly she was able to figure out the online price. It's no small amount of money for needlepointing and to feel like your bothering someone when spending your money is offensive at best. While the bookstore itself has a decent & varied selection of new books, and they'll order any book for you that they don't have, it is not the most pleasant place to shop. As a bibliophile and an English teacher, I really want to like and support Warwick's, but unfortunately, they've treated me poorly on multiple occasions which makes it challenging for me to give them more chances. There are many book sellers & employees, but they are not very helpful and they treat you like an inconvenience or worse. The right side of the store is book-centric while the left side of the store is mostly stationery & cards, writing utensils, gift items, and tchotchkes. Today, I purchased a book and a pen refill with a credit that I had at the store. I requested the pen refill from one counter, and I had to go to the book counter to pay for my book. Instead of giving me the refill so I could bring it over to the book counter and pay for both items with my credit, the employee brought the refill over herself and told a 2nd employee while pointing at me that, "that woman over there is also getting this pen refill along with her book." Then the 2nd employee handed the refill to a 3rd employee who stashed it behind the counter while I waited for my turn to pay. Keep in mind that the pen refill was a mere $6 item but they treated it like a precious gem that would surely compel me, if I held it in my own hands, to run out of the store with it without paying for it. Meanwhile, I'm holding the much pricier book that I'm going to purchase in my hands, but I rapidly felt like turning on my heels and vacating the store, and leaving the book behind, of course, because that moment was just so strange and uncomfortable. Over the past ten years, I have regularly patronized this store and I've purchased items here multiple times per year. However, there is no recognition, no friendliness, nothing to indicate that I'm more than just a tourist popping in on vacation. At the very least, a friendly greeting would do, but no such luck. Every time I cross the threshold, I feel a wall of snootiness that is just unpleasant and takes away from what could be a lovely shopping experience. As I'm sure you've figured out by now, items are definitely on the pricey side here. You can certainly find a better value and probably way friendlier service at other bookstores outside of LJ. I think Warwick's probably provides a different type of shopping experience for patrons depending on who the employees perceive them to be, even if they are way off the mark. C'est la vie. Just know that if you are a POC and you shop here, you may have an unpleasant experience, but I certainly hope that you don't! Peace.

While many people think of exercise classes or meetings, these centers often host incredible cultural events at surprisingly affordable prices. That is exactly what I found at the La Jolla Community Center's summer concert series featuring jazz vocalist Rose Mallet. The evening was elegant without being pretentious. The concert lasted about 75 minutes and attracted a mature audience, though I couldn't help but think younger adults are missing out by not exploring the non-traditional venues. Tickets were very reasonably priced compared to many jazz performances around Southern California, making this an exceptional value.$30.00. The center also showcases artwork from local artists throughout the building, with many pieces available for purchase. A simple snack bar offers reasonably priced refreshments, with most items costing under $5. The venue is comfortable and accommodating, with plentiful restrooms, indoor seating on folding chairs, and spacious outdoor seating that includes large communal tables and smaller café-style tables. Seating is open, so arriving early is worthwhile. I arrived around 7:30 p.m. and had no trouble finding free street parking, though valet parking is also available. Most attendees dressed casually. As for me, I took the opportunity to dress like my fashionista self and the occasion is always worth it If you're looking for an inexpensive evening of live music, art, and community, don't overlook your local community center. Hidden gems like this are exactly why I enjoy exploring them. I'll definitely be back for another performance this summer. TIP: Sane day purchase is $5.00 more per ticket after 12 pm
