St. Honoré individual cake
Barry W.

We picked up a St. Honoré cake and four cookies -- two smaller cookies (a chocolate-dipped shortbread and a chocolate cloud cookie) and two larger cookies (a dark chocolate with walnuts and an oatmeal craisin(?)). The cake was fabulous and the most outstanding of the items we sampled -- special and delicious. The two smaller cookies were average -- wouldn't get them again -- but the two larger cookies were very good. The dark chocolate with walnuts was the star of the show and easily the cookie we'd pick again. On the day we went -- a beautiful summer afternoon in what we hope is the tail end of the pandemic -- there were people eating outside the shop, but no one was dining indoors. I don't know if they were allowing that yet. Hand sanitizer was available upon entry, and our server wore a mask, for which we were appreciative. Parking was free in neighborhood and not hard to find. Bottom line: It may come down to knowing what to order. Our experience of the cake was five-star, the cookies maybe average out to three-star, so the rating reflects the average. But if you stick with what's good, I might say 4.5.

You don't want to miss this Sweet Obsession if you are in the Arbutus area. It is located on the W. 16th Avenue in the residential area. This little gem has varieties of sweet dessert and other bakery goods and drink selections . I had an individual St. Honoré : puff pastry, choux pastry, vanilla pastry cream, orange liquor, chocolate mousse, dark chocolate drizzle. The chocolate mousse cream puff is covered with dark chocolate drizzle on the side. The vanilla pastry cream is topped with the dark chocolate chips in the middle of this sweet treat. The bottom base is a choux pastry which tastes like the croissant . Not too sweet . The flavors are well-balanced and perfect sweetness. Taste: 5/5 Thank you for having me for the Yelp Elite Event @yelpvancouver @sweetobsessionvancouver I also bought few more bakery goods including - an Almond Croissant - a Cheese Scone - a Lemon Danish - a Pear Tart - a bag of Mocha Hazelnut Biscotti The pastries are definitely scrumptious which they are soft, buttery inside and crumble outside. The biscotti are hard, crisp, crunchy and they are good to dip in the coffee. I loved the cake I had when Sweet Obsession teamed up with Yelp for an event so thought I'd order here for our triple birthday celebration. I got the mocha torte. Requested them to make it less sweet, but they don't allow changes to the recipe. Good thing the cake wasn't too sweet. The slight bitterness of the ganache balanced out the sweetness. There's multiple layers in this cake. The box says to take it out of the fridge for 45 minutes. We can't wait and ate it after 15 minutes. It's better to wait a few more minutes for it to soften. The chocolate was high quality and design was very classy. I also picked up pear tart, apricot tart and apple turnover. The pear tart was to die for. It has half pear with crunchy almonds and a delectable layer of cream. I'd definitely get this again. The other two were just okay. Overall, great place to get your cake for any occasion. Order in advance.

Friendly staff and great looking desserts. Got the personal st.honore, not much flavor in terms of the custard filled but the Choux pastry and chocolate were delicious. Tried the almond croissant and pear danish and both were good. Simple yet not too sweet. Cherry danish was also delicious! Nice and crispy, prices are quite reasonable as well. Went during the summer so bakery was dark, I'm assuming to reduce the heat in the back however could use some brighter lighting in the front area, leds?

Pretty nice and quiet coffee shop in the Arbutus area. Parking is available along 16th Avenue. There isn't too much seating, but fortunately the place also isn't too busy. The interior isn't the most modern, but it's classy and quiet. Drinks are a bit on the pricier side, at $3-5 for a coffee type beverage, but this is the west side after all. The coffee was quite good, and so was their banana bread.

Looking for a variety of desserts? From mango cheesecake to tiramisu. This place is great to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. This place is closely located closer the west side closer the the residential area. There is plenty of parking as they have their own parking lot and there is also street parking as well. I had ordered the tiramisu as well as the hazelnut chocolate cake. These was both delicious as well as satisfying. Even better when you get some hot tea! The counter staff were very friendly and willing to take the extra time to explain what is in each dessert. They are approachable and willing to help. Personally - during birthdays or special occasion I like ordering the cakes here! I would definitely come back again if I needed to satisfy my sweet tooth.

tiramisu, banana crepe, mango cheesecake and coconut cake

Got their kougin aman since it looked delicious but although it was good, it was missing that crispiness and caramelization that I expect. The sweetness did not come from a caramel flavour but simply from the soft and almost mushy, buttery centre making it too decadent and a little too heavy. Overall, not bad but not great...there are better..

It was a huge hit with everyone! The 6 inch cake was $69 and I added a customized birthday message on chocolate for an extra $3 which was a nice personal touch. They also offer a gluten free option for an additional $10 which is great for accommodating different dietary needs. One thing to keep in mind is that you'll want to order online well in advance because their cakes sell out quickly. I can definitely see why. They're fantastic! I'll be ordering from Gary's Patisserie again for future celebrations.

Gary opened this patisserie in the east side of Vancouver on Kingsway. He moved here from a couple…read moreof locations before. I leart about this place from a reel. The pastries looked very unique, and some of the ingredients were unusual in a good way. If you like little sweet, this is for you. First of all, the packaging of their cake is very interesting. They are inside a very nice glass jar. You get to reuse the glass jar for something else. The quantity in this jar is equivalent to a single sliced cake you normally get from a bakery. They have a variety of flavours. You get to find some new flavours from time to time. I got these 3 flavours this time: - Taro coconut pandan - Matcha - Durian My favourite has to be the matcha. The matcha content was quite high. I could taste the subtle bitterness of it. The cream was silky, and the cake was spongy. Overall it was not too sweet for my liking. Some might find it not sweet enough. Taro coconut pandan was also nice while the coconut chunks were very refreshing in its natural light sweetness. The pandan flavour was very subtle. One of the layers was a bit too sweet. The combination was very south east Asia. Last but not least, durian is a very unique tropical fruit. It has its natural sweetness. The balance was nice between the cream and the spong cake. They have a stand displaying butter shortbread cookie samples. All of their flavours taste good. The most interesting flavour was Hong Kong style milk tea. You can order cakes in 6", 8", and 10". The Pumpkin spice pear and chestnut cake is seasonal. Their mango mousse cake also looked good. Parking is a little tricky on Kingsway. You can park for free before 3om and after 6pm. Side street parking is also available.
