Looks like this is the location at the state fair by the university of Minnesota. My heart sank seeing it all boarded up and closed. :( We drove here after checking Google and it shows it's open until 5PM too. The whole place was closed. Guess that means they aren't open until August then during their annual state fair. The address on Yelp is off, it's further down. The address is 1710 Carnes Avenue.

When attending the state fair we have of list of must haves and sweet Martha cookie bucket as always a must!! It's one of our absolute favorites and the service is always good! The aroma coming from the stands is irresistible and you can always count on them being just as tasty as always! I highly recommend

Sweet Martha's Cookies at the Minnesota State Fair was on my food bucket list, and they did not disappoint! Warm, gooey, and overflowing in the bucket, they were everything I hoped for. Definitely a must-try if you're at the fair worth the hype!

If they ask "do you want to be able to close your bucket," you say no! Let em overfill your bucket!! An iconic and infamous Minnesota State Fair classic!! Did you really go to the MN State Fair if you didn't get Sweet Martha's Cookies? The answer is no. Please please go get you some! They are soo delicious, gooey, fresh, and moist. The perfect cookie honestly. I recommend getting a bucket ($18) and sharing with people! The buckets hold around 4 dozen cookies. Within the fair there are two locations, so keep your eyes peeled and try some DELICIOUS cookies!

Okay, so bare with me as this will be a longer review. But TLDR; cookies are great & customer service is good as making up for any issues. I love Sweet Martha's cookies. I think getting a bucket is a fun fair ritual! The cookies are (almost always) thin, gooey, hot and sweet. They melt in your mouth! In the past several years of attending the fair, I've only had one issue... which was this year. I got a bucket of cookies that were thicker than usual and much harder than usual - not the type of cookies I was expecting nor what I prefer. Now, some folks I were with said they loved it more than the usual cookies. The next day, I reached out to Sweet Martha's social media and asked if the recipe changed. They actually said no, and offered to give me a replacement bucket of cookies if I'd be returning to the fair. (Not sure what would've happened if I wasn't planning on going several more times this year lol). So, I follow the instructions in the message and am able to get a new bucket. The second bucket was absolutely perfect! Unfortunately the manager I chatted with in person was confused and not aware of the situation. He was a bit firm at first until I showed him the messages and then he was very accommodating. (I'm not sure if there have been issues in the past?). But he gave us a new bucket of fresh out of the oven cookies, a glass of milk, and a cup of coffee. It really turned the situation around and I throughly enjoyed the cookies that were even better than I remembered! Pro tip: bring a ziploc to stash extra cookies if you're not with a group and able to eat enough to be able to close the bucket. also move those cookies to an airtight container once you're home to keep them from getting stale! That bucket is cute but not airtight!

Contrary, coming into the intimate home shop in Saint Paul hit different. As a Saint Paul girly, I absolutely adore small businesses. Marc Heu has a great location across from the co-op on Dale. Due to the pastry lineup altering so frequently, there are no signs detailing the pastry product so there is definitely interaction with staff members to ensure you are getting what you want. The staff is attentive, dressed in uniform and ready to take orders with a note pad upon arrival. Fortunately both days I have went, there were no lines but I also understand lines are common here which is something to be aware of. Inside there are small circular tables to enjoy your pastry and or coffee in. I would not recommend bringing a laptop as this is a tiny shop with an emphasis on eating, mingling and departing. Other reviews will dink stars because they will say the pricing is high however, I think, the pricing is reasonable giving the high quality of baking effort and the quality of service provided. In addition, this is not a spot to come 24/7, rather, special moments such as a birthday, holiday or celebration. With that, I feel like the price is justified. Line or not - the pasty variety is outstanding! My husband and I had a donut with a spiced icing and some other filling and every bite we kept saying yum or oh my gosh this is so good. Inspired from France, you will 100% feel transported as the shop itself resembles France from the interior and obviously the baking follows suit. The display case is the center of attention when you walk in. I highly recommend stopping when in Saint Paul or purchasing at a coffee shop should you happen to see the line of Marc Heu. There are a few other stores in the area, otherwise, Grand Avenue is right up the road should you want to make a day of supporting local. Saint Paul is so lucky to have a slice of France in our city. Thank you!

(Future post for them, stay tuned) Their amazing donut flavors do rotate and they do get sold out of items because they're that good. Flavors we got today and loved: Lemon Cloud Dream (mmmmmm bright and delish) Cocoa Cloud Raspberry Delight All of these were light and fluffy and full of amazing filling that was airy whipped and flavorful. This spot is one to make sure you stop by and try something if you're at the market or just in the area.

It seems that they are rightly known for their sweet baked goods, hence the name, but they have some savory offerings as well. I had heard good things about their congee so I made a point to try that. It was good! Filling, plenty of meat. I also have had a unique, savory roll that was buttery and great, I forgot what it's called but it's good. And I had a Lychee Rose brioche donut. Decadent! Delicious. Loved it. I got a Vietnamese coffee one time that was great, and a matcha milk with ube foam that was also great. So, yeah, really everything I've had has been great! The opening hours are painfully limited. They are only open from 9am to 1pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. And both times I came it was close to noon and they were sold out of LOTS of things. I'm convinced that if you go there because you want something specific, you simply can't trust them to have it available. Instead of planning a specific visit, the wiser approach would be to give them a look if you're in the area during one of the 12 hours they are open in a given week, and see if you're interested in what they aren't sold out of. They have an indoor counter which you get to via the main entrance on 4th street, and guessing your way through the halls until you find them past that gallery. There is also a seating section which has the ambience of a break room at a DMV. But there is also an outdoor window on Saturday & Sunday, with some seats set up in the alley; that description sounds dicey but it's perfectly fine. My hope is that they improve on some of this to make for a more predictably positive experience!

This isn't explicitly stated anywhere though so I can see how it can get you turned around like the other reviews state. Staff at the counter was super friendly and very open to suggestions though so that's a plus. We brought my niece here for a "birthday brunch" on here 21st and overall had a great time. The inside of the shop isn't anything to write home about but it's cute and great for the atmosphere we were looking for. More of a chill vibe where you can hang out and talk, think cute coffee shop meets diner type vibe. The food was good, not amazing, but still pretty decent. A little bit speedy for what you get. in my opinion but overall pretty good. I got the biscuits and gravey which maybe had a little too much greens added on top. It messed with the texture of the rest of the dish but the flavor was there and overall I enjoyed it. All in all a solid breakfast spot. A little bit spendy, but feels pretty in line with a more traditional sit down restaurant pricing these days.
