I'm so glad I was able to stop by Sweet and get macarons and cupcakes before the end of my trip to Houston! This was my second visit, the first being several years ago on another Houston visit. Both times, I got macarons and cupcakes. Both times, they were delicious! I especially liked how Sweet offers so many flavors of macarons. They are $2 each and I think the perfect size for macarons. Not too small, but not too big either. Just enough for two bites (for me at least). We got honey lavender, rose, espresso, pistachio, pumpkin, and several other flavors. For cupcakes, we got tiramisu and pumpkin. They were beautifully decorated and I'm sure tasted great (I bought these for my Dad and my niece to enjoy). It's safe to say that we'll be back here on our next Houston visit! read more

I've visited this SWEET location a few times in CC. It is located near the Yardhouse patio and facing West Elm. They have a corner bench with pillows and marble coffee table inside to sit and enjoy your goodies. There is also some seating outside the shop to catch up and people watch. I came in on my lunch break for a quick pick me up because it was Friday why not?! I ordered the mango iced green tea and a got a key lime bite. ( I ordered this dessert a few nights ago at TS to go only to come home and find out they gave me a mini fruit tart =[ ) I believe these are the same as the ones at Tout Suite as they have an area in that shop as well. Macarons are inconsistent. Sometimes I get a good batch or a bad batch. When I say bad, I mean the macarons are not made correctly because they are filled with big air pockets. When you take a bite into a good macaron, it should never have a big air pocket and the cookie should not just crumble into a few pieces from one bite. Another criticism is some flavors are just too strong and sweet, while others make me wonder what I ordered. Mini key lime pie is the best dessert here. Cupcakes are okay. read more

While the macarons are always on point and delicious, I have to say their cupcakes quality has gone down. Yesterday, I ordered a red velvet cupcake and a cookies and cream cupcake. The cookies and cream was so dry, it felt as if it had been siting there for days. The red velvet was a little more moist but not that much better. We came on a Sunday, and it wasn't late in the day..I'm assuming they make their stuff daily, so not sure why it tasted like it was made days prior. These are probably the best macaroons I have had!! On Mondays they have a special for buy 3 get 1 free. I ended up with 12 for $20. The creme brûlée was my favorite! My friend informed me about their birthday deal. They were selling macarons for $1 each with a minimum purchase of 8. I called them beforehand and found out, there wasn't a line, so we came here instead of standing in Tout Suites crazy line. My sweet tooth and I ordered 10! This was my time to try out their flavors without paying around $3 for one. They provide you with an order sheet and you mark the ones you want, but then you don't get them until someone from the back brings it up front. I guess they wanted to keep their displays stocked or unless they gave me "not pretty enough to display" ones? No idea, but my favorite so far is the pistachio. So Fridays have been filled with Happy Hour shenanigans out in City Centre. At the end of every evening of drinking I must have desserts! My place of choice is SWEET. I am saddened because I know I shouldn't be spending my money on this! It's over priced and it's so tiny! But they do taste good. I've sampled basically every single macaroon and my favorites have been the orange and lemon. I've had a couple of their full sized cupcakes now and my favorite is the orange blossom. I love the SWEET/ToutSuite chain! As for SWEET, the location is perfect for me. After I shop or eat at my fave restaurants, I head over for a snack and/or coffee. Many people come here but it never seems to be very packed for me when I get here. They have an excellent selection of pastries and the coffee is good. I will say do not expect to come here with a laptop and chill or hang. It's VERY small and minimal seating outside with a small bench inside. Go to Tout Suite on Commerce for a chill or work/study spot! Its a sister restaurant with even more pastry selections and they have food there! One of their seasonal stuffed avocados changed my life lol Also, sign up for their awards as I frequently get texts for free cupcakes and/or coffee! read more

My previous review was 3 years ago, and it felt like it was time for an update. I used to come here for their macarons; however, after trying numerous macarons from various places around town, I gotta say that their macarons aren't so great anymore.... Yes, they have tons of pretty unique flavors (red velvet, coconut, hazelnut, cookies n' cream, eggnog, etc..), but the quality of their ingredients is subpar. The ingredients do not taste fresh and taste quite bland, and their shells are hollow and fragile - not fluffy and chewy. Their best flavor is the creme brûlée, which isn't offered anywhere else. If they increased the quality of their ingredients and fixed the hollow shells issue, it would be amazing. Unfortunately, making macarons isn't one of their strengths.... However, to give them credit where it's due, I think their cupcakes are amazing, including their gluten free ones. I've had their vanilla on chocolate, chocolate, cookies n' cream, red velvet, and gluten free red velvet. The balance between cake and frosting is perfect, and the amount of sugar is not overwhelming. I usually have to scrape off half the frosting when I eat cupcakes from other places, but not theirs. The amount and sweetness are both perfect. The cupcakes are also always moist and light. I haven't tried their cake balls, truffles, nor brownies so I can't comment on those, but I definitely recommend their cupcakes if you want a variety of flavors and something that isn't too sweet. read more

There is (limited) seating inside, and also a few tables outside. I've tried the strawberry, lemon, and a special St. Patrick's Day cupcake. The strawberry was the best. Moist cake with small pieces of strawberry baked into it and topped with strawberry cream. The lemon cupcake was just average. Finally, the St. Patrick's Day cupcake. It was green, of course, but I'm not sure what flavor cake was used. I don't normally say this about cupcakes, but this one was not good at all. It was basically a burnt piece of cake topped with frosting. Not really a good combination of flavors. In addition to cupcakes, Sweet also has cookies, macarons, coffee, and tea. Since I attempt to try all desserts with raspberries, I'll have to go to Sweet at least one more time. The frosting, was actually very good and tasted like real strawberry. - Vanilla on Vanilla: By now I am vanilla bean cake/buttercream frosted out! But it was good. Dry but good. - Dolce: Ahhhh, the driest of them all. This cupcake was just bad. It tasted like the Vanilla on Vanilla cupcake had been over cooked. No familiar Dolce flavor at all to this. So did I like my cupcakes? Yes, believe it or not. I didn't throw them out. I've done that twice before from other bakeries. Will I be back? Nope, sorry. Sweet cupcakes are pretty good. Their macaroons...I've had better and cheaper (considering the size. I like mine from an Austin bakery called La Patisserie). Anyway, I recently stopped by Sweet to buy a cupcake for my boyfriend's mini birthday celebration. The frosting reminds me of ghirardelli chocolate, the frosting has cherry chocolate notes which isn't my preference when it comes to chocolate. I prefer a smoother frosting, as in Italian meringue and this was more on the gritty American buttercream side. Affogato - I have to say this was a rip-off. A little over $5, I saw them use Randalls brand ice cream, not even at least the Open Nature line but their generic store brand line. I think if you charge over $5 for an affogato, it'd better be premium ice cream. I could've gotten my affogato at Paciugo with premium gelato! And presentation sucked - it was dumped in a paper cup. A little whip would've helped. $5 for store brand ice cream and no presentation. One star for not overly sweet cupcakes and frosting, one star for the nice staff and cute store. Hollows. Very very obvious hollows. I've had perfect macarons from Sweet. I've had terribly baked macarons. And then I've had mediocre. I just wish ya'll were more consistent. Perhaps it was because you were running your $1 promotion and just didn't take little care into each macaron or you've gained your following and know that they do not notice the difference between a good and bad macaron. I had the s'more macaron which has a great chocolate taste but could have more marshmallow filling. It was more or less a chocolate, imo. Creme brûlée macaron was very tasteful. I loved the caramelized sugar on top and it's almost too cute to eat. You can't go wrong with red velvet. That's always a winner. I also tried the tres leches cake pot. It was very milky and almost too sweet. As small as the pots are, I couldn't finish it. It has a lot of cinnamon. More cake, less milk. I absolutely love milk tea but their milk tea isn't all that. I feel like SWEET has their own signature milk tea recipe because it's nothing like your traditional milk tea. Maybe because it's organic. I can taste a distinct cinnamon flavor, as well. Also the boba wasn't soft and chewy. Kind of hard. I was a little disappointed in the macaron size though. They're practically minis compared to their competitors. I was walking around looking for a cold drink on a hot afternoon so I fired up my Yelp app and this place came up - and I'm glad I dropped in! This place is like all of my favorite sweets bundled in one store: macarons, chocolate, cupcakes...and even tapioca drinks? Are you kidding me?! I ordered the ca phe sua da (i.e. Vietnamese coffee) for $3.75. Compared to other places I've been, the coffee was a little less bitter, and it was more heavy on the condensed milk (so quite a bit sweeter!). Also there was less ice, and more volume of drink which I like. I only wish I had more of a stomach to try all the sweets. The cupcakes and the macarons all looked so tasty, but I was too full to give them a go. They also had this photo of a macaron ice cream sandwich that looked ridiculously good. I was hoping for wifi, but looks like they don't have it. But you can 'steal' it from the nearby convention center or Urban Outfitters. Fours years later, walked in, no one greeted us. The guys that worked was so rude (except for one) then when I stated "I thought you would have a higher yelp rating." I bought eight so I could get a box, any less comes in an cellophane bag and believe me you will not regret adding an extra couple or six to your order The fruity pebble is one of my favorites and they lavender is also amazingly delicious, don't knock it till you try it. I have yet to try a flavor I didn't like so my suspicion is you can't go wrong no matter what macaron flavor you choose here. They also had a variety or other backed goods that I plan to try as well. So here is what I would have wanted to know before I went here. - this place is just a little sweet boutique, not a full service place like Tout Suite so don't expect anywhere to really sit and relax while eating your goodies. It's more of a pick it up and go kinda place. - rose and lavender may not sound like appetizing flavors but they are actually scrumdidillyumptious and you so not pass them up. - the drinks are also yummy so grab a coffee or Lemonade in and adorable glass bottle while your there.
