You go back to the house and learn about the process to make chocolate. It's part presentation and part video. Courtney will open a pod and you can taste the beans: the while squishy part tastes like apple jolly ranchers. The purple bean is bitter, so you have to swallow it fast. Then you get to sample different types of chocolates. Yum! The tour is about an hour. I think it's a good balance between information and keeping things going. I definite recommend for adults and our 6 year-old son enjoyed it.

As you walk around, you can actually watch them making their delicious goodies, which makes the experience even more fun and tempting. The shop was beautifully decorated for the upcoming Easter holiday, and they also had some really lovely gift boxes--perfect if you're looking to bring something home for family or friends. I've been flying to Hilo from Honolulu for more than a year now, to get these. Finally getting around to writing about how excellent these chips are. The store room is clean and well organized. They offer samples of the different chips they sell. Main difference is the type of chip....it's a choice of taro, sweet potato, regular potato, or even a nice mix. They have incredible flavors to choose from. Whether you are craving sweet or savory, there is indeed a chip flavor for everyone. My all time favorite is the Korean BBQ flavor on thin taro chips, so yummy! We also tried their cookies and chocolates. With every bag and every bite, we have not been disappointed. Super convenient to have the FedEx option so they don't get crushed when I fly back to Honolulu. Thank you for using locally grown ingredients too :)

We were greeted promptly and she went over the labels and how everything was packed. We didn't sample anything because we were so full but she did offer and I figured everything was pretty self-explanatory. We did pick up about 7 bags of chip and some cookies. If You spend over $100, they offer complimentary FedEx shipping which I thought was incredible. We took advantage of that benefit so I will definitely give a more accurate review on the product when we get to taste it.

There were items under the Christmas tree that were on sale, so I grabbed some of those. The owner Napua knows all of the companies whose products she sells, and while I was visiting, an aunty who makes lauhala products came in. Such a delight! I picked up some fruit gels, lotions, chili pepper water/sauce, toffee, soap, and even an adorable pair of earrings made from recycled materials shaped like the Big Island. Prices were reasonable, and the owner is Native Hawaiian. Nalani Farm Store is tucked away behind KTA and the farmers market, but is easily findable using any map app. I'll be back!

I was happy to get to try a couple of samples from some of the vendors and some educated me on a lot of different things that I didn't know about the island. There are multiple species that you don't ever see outside of Hawaii or often at least. Was happy to know that I'll never see an avocado of this size in Alaska, but it still made me sad because it did taste delicious.
