Excellent experience! My son is a student at UB and brought his car in for service. We thought he needed brakes, but they looked over the car and made an adjustment, cost under $50. I asked if they would check the car over to see if everything looked ok since he is so far from home and they sent a report. I spoke with Laura. She was great! We're able to drop off our car at our convenience and they contact us when it's ready, leave the key locked up, and we're able to pick it up with our spare key whenever time permits. I discovered a flat tire on my car yesterday, and called the tow company who changed out the flat to the donut tire so I could drive it to my mechanic. I've been going to Sweeney's on Niagara's Falls Blvd. for the last year and have been really happy with their service -- fast, reasonably priced, and honest. Mechanic/owner Phil took a look at the dead tire and found the offending screw that had punctured it. "I might be able to fix it. I'll call you tomorrow," he said. Just got a call from Anne, their office manager. "We were able to repair it. If you can pull your car into the first bay, Phil will swap out the tire while you wait." "That's great! I can pay you over the phone by credit card," I said. "Oh no," she said, "You don't have to pay this time. We want to take care of you." These are good, honest hard-working people. My check engine light came on and I tried some places that were closer to my work, like Pep Boys, and they were all booked for at least a week. Then I remembered I had a great experience at Sweeney's in the past. I gave them a call and was told to bring my car over anytime that afternoon and they would run out to my car and at least do the diagnostic testing. I showed up an hour later and Phil came right outside to do the test. He gave me a copy of the results, something with my air filter, vents, etc. He assured me it was safe to drive in the meantime. We went to schedule an appointment and he mentioned needing it for a couple hours on the scheduled day and said they have loaners available if needed. I was sold! It's rare to get a loaner! And it's so convenient. (Not even the dealership where I bought my car would give me a loaner when the window on my car broke and they needed a few days to get the glass in.) I dropped off my car at Sweeney's at 8am and was called by 2pm that it was ready. They always give estimates, are honest, and straightforward. Also seem to care about their customers. In the past when I needed a part replaced they went out of their way to get me a reliable used part to save me money. 100% recommend Sweeney's! read more

I took my car in to get looked at cause my A/C stopped working. They inform me that the compressor is busted and that they could repair it or get me a new one but they would be roughly the same price either way. I believe I was quoted around $550. Not only that they charged me just under $100 for the work of checking what's wrong. I declined the service of repairing or getting a new one. I went on YouTube (which is the first thing I should've done) and I see a video where a guy fixes his compressor by simply replacing the relay fuse where you can get at autozone for $6! So I gave it a shot and it worked! So either this place is crooked and shady as hell taking advantage of customers or their personnel incompetence level is at an all time high. Either way I won't be returning or recommend them to any of my people as I only live 5min away. read more

After SEVERAL visits to the dealer to fix an issue with my Jeep, I was SO frustrated I could no longer take it. I went to Sweeney's on the advice of family & FINALLY was able to find & fix the issue. I have visited Sweeney's several times and they are fair & honest. When I asked for a tune up they informed me I did not need it yet. The dealer would have for sure done it, found things wrong & charge me way too much. In addition, I had to go to the dealer for a warranty issue and while there they informed me my rear axle seal needed to be replaced at $500+ I said No, took to Sweeney's and they advised I didn't need that either, that the seal was completely IN TACT. STRONGLY recommend Sweeney's for all your mechanic needs! read more

Other prominent shop couldn't diagnose an overheating problem. They messed around with it for weeks. Took it to Sweeney's and the problem was fixed in a couple of hours. There are two things that are terribly hard to find when I move to a new city: a great/affordable hair stylist and a reliable/honest mechanic. I searched the internet. I requested yelp assistance. I asked friends and co-workers. I called around. I did everything I could to find a place. I did not receive a consensus on any one shop, but I appreciated how much online feedback this place had so I called them. When I called, this was the only shop where the mechanic spent a lot of time with me on the phone. He explained prices, different options, etc. He was very kind and customer oriented. Based on this interaction, I decided to take my car to Sweeney's for a brake inspection. They charge $25 or 30 for the inspection to encourage a sense of integrity which I understand. If you do need new brakes, this money goes towards the overall charge. Turns out I did not need new brakes (phew!) and the mechanic gave me extremely detailed information on how everything looked and future repairs. The owner was also willing to provide some shuttling if necessary which was helpful. Overall, I would happily return to this shop as they appeared both honest and informative. read more

I'd give this place 6* if I could. The front office management is great. They tell you exactly what's wrong with your car and all of the options available. I've never come across a more honest and friendly auto repair place in my life. Heck, they'll even bring you into the garage to show you the issue! If you're in the northtowns, or even in the southtowns, this place is worth the drive for the service. They do everything but body repair. I just wish they had weekend hours. read more

Very recently. by battery light had been flickering on. I brought by 2007 Toyota to Pep Boys for a systems test and was told that my alternator was going. In total, with a new alternator and belt, it would cost me $550. Knowing how often a female can be overcharged, I decided to drive home and do a little research before dishing out $550. I called around to several garages, including Sweeney's. Sweeney's was not only the kindest on the phone, but quoted me at $441, over $100 less than the other car shops I called. So I decided go with them. It was the best experience I have had at a car shop. Phil was incredibly nice from start to finish. In order to tell me my car was ready, I received a text message which was better than a call in the middle of a work day, in my opinion. When I picked up my car, he greeted me as if I had brought my car there my whole life. He walked me out to my car and cleared the snow AND had topped off my low windshield wiper fluid (something neither Pep Boys did at the systems check nor Midas had done during my oil change a week prior). He also gave me a recommendation for an auto body shop that could fix me cracked bumper at a responsible price. Sweeney's Garage is one those few businesses that still exist that value their customers. This was my first time there and will certainly not be my last. Whether it be my next oil change or something more extensive, this is my new car spot. A great Buffalo business! read more

I had a pretty decent experience here today. My car decided that it wasn't going to start Sunday afternoon, but I was able to get it going again on Sunday evening. I drove it over to the garage for them to look at. First thing the next morning I received a... text message yes you read that right....someplace that actually doesn't want to talk on the phone with me either and would prefer to communicate via text.... telling me that they couldn't replicate the problem, but the technician would continue to look at it to see if there was anything that stood out that might be wrong. Around 10 AM (2 hours later), the front office texted me again and told me that they had replaced by air filter and done some cleaning of my cars insides. They gave me some instructions that if I have the same problem again to not try to restart the car, but rather have it towed there so that they could diagnose the problem. The front office took my credit card # over the phone and cashed me out so I never actually interacted in person with anyone. Kinda sweet. Now, the reason for the 3 stars... I would have liked to have been consulted prior to any work being done. The total was just under $100 for an air filter replacement (which I didn't authorize) and a fuel throttle cleaning. I would have authorized the work, but would have liked to have approved it prior to it actually being completed. I would definitely return to this place, but with the caution that before they perform any actual work that I authorize it after receiving a quote. Update: Received a few texts regarding my experience and this review. I was offered a refund of the services provided. This isn't at all necessary, but I do appreciate the gesture and the outreach earns an extra star. I'm very much impressed with the customer service and appreciate their responsiveness. read more

Being a college student from 3 hours out of town, I finally accepting that after 6 years, I needed to find a local mechanic that I could bring my car to when needed. As a woman who knows very little about cars, I felt this is an area that I am most vulnerable in. However, I knew my brakes needed inspection, and there was a terrible noise coming from the front of my vehicle. I couldn't waste any more time. So I turned to Yelp and found Sweeney's with a good reputation. I trusted the reviews and went on to their website, which was helpful and very easy to navigate. It was the weekend so they weren't open, but I was able to enter days and times that worked for me for an appointment, and a description of my problem. They got back to on Monday to finalize. Phil even emailed me to make sure they had the parts in that might be needed based on my description. The day came for my appointment and I dropped my car off. I was greeted by Anne and Phil at the front desk who were both very welcoming and friendly. I was even offered the option to receive text communication from them, which is great! I left feeling comfortable (something I've never felt after dropping my car off to be worked on anywhere). After a few hours, I received a text from Anne asking me to call for information regarding my car. I called and she let me know that my brakes were fine (yay)! And that the front springs on my Nissan had broken (yikes)-a $1,000 repair (double yikes). But good news! Anne did some research and found that those parts on my car had actually been recalled and that I could take it to a Nissan dealer to be repaired free of charge (!!!). I was charged only for the brake inspection, and left $1,000 richer than if I had gone somewhere that probably wouldn't have done this research for me. I also left with a bit of confidence and now have a local business that my boyfriend and I can bring our cars to for repairs in the future. read more

Sweeney's is Great! I called to see if they could fit me in last minute as I was looking to buy a used car and wanted to get it looked like by an independent mechanic. They said they were booked but could still fit me in later in the day. I brought the car over and hung out in the waiting room while they did the inspection. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming, with a comfortable waiting room and water and coffee available while you wait. After the inspection, I was able to go back into the garage with them and see my car up on the lift. Every minor detail (even a cracked piece of plastic I never would have noticed) was walked through in detail and they were super helpful in breaking everything down as to whether this car was a good purchase or not and what kind of work it might need in the future. I have been here twice and both times have been pleasant. The first time I came here to get my car inspected and the front disc rotors replaced as they suggested. The second time they replaced the battery. They always explain what they are going to do and how much the job will cost. I don't have much of a clue how much auto repair costs.
