Why was I still going to the Volvo dealership? I was fairly overdue on my 105,000 mile service but when I got a quote online for service from the dealer, it was pretty darn pricey - close to $1000 if I recall. I find Swedish Auto Service on Yelp, and got amazing service for nearly half the price! Clay and his team are super, super knowledgeable, they don't over-charge, they let you know what needs service now...what you can probably ride out a bit longer. It's the weekend before the 4th of July and we are traveling in Northern California. We hear a sound coming from our 2016 XC-90. Even though it's a relatively new car with low mileage, I suspect that is the sound of car that needs new brakes. I called the Volvo dealer, they won't be able to look at it until after the holidays! Take your Volvo here! Clay is an honest competent mechanic that knows his stuff. I took my 96 Volvo 850R for a 60K service and some other minor fixes. He took the time to make up an "A" list, things that had to be fixed for safety and/or performance, and a "B" list of things that were more optional, and spent the time talking me through both lists. I did my research on some online Volvo forums and checked prices online, his prices were fare and I agreed with his recommendations. He completed the work quickly and my car has been running excellent since. I called Clay at Swedish Auto Service asking for advice when I was not yet a customer, nor had he seen the car I was describing. He did not rush me off the phone but spent at least 20 minutes talking to me about this car and what had come up in a diagnostic report. He is straightforward and really wants you to understand what is happening when you bring your car in for service. I bought the car and Clay and his team have been taking care of it ever since (and it's an older Volvo with lots of miles - needs lots of tender loving care). I have been taking all of our Volvos , 1982 DL sedan, 740 GL wagon, and 240 wagon to Swedish Auto Service for well over 10 years. Prior to finding out about Clay of Swedish Auto Service, I had been taking our cars to the dealer. Although the dealer was decent, there were some lingering problems that never seem to get totally fixed. For example, we had stalling and starting problems on the 740 GL wagon that the dealer supposedly "fixed" just to have them reappear a few months later. It got so bad that AAA warned us that we were going to exceed their towing allowances. On the recommendation of a friend, we went to Clay. He diagnosed that a fuel pump relay in the gas tank the problem in literally just a few minutes. He fixed it and we never had these problems again. Clay and his staff are very skilled and knowledgeable about Volvos. They will thoroughly discuss your service needs with you, do all that is necessary to keep your Volvo running in tip top shape and recommend service jobs that can wait until the next appointment. Having been *very* spoiled by great mechanics in the past, I was apprehensive when my 1999 Saab died shortly after I relocated to the area. Clay at Swedish Auto Service is not only a master on Saabs, but he is honest, as well. I took my car in for brake work, after another car repair shop told me I needed front and rear brakes with an estimate of $550.00. Clay drove my car and reported back to me that front brakes had 80% remaining but the rear brakes needed replacement. He could have easily replaced both the front and rear and I would never have known the difference. He saved me $250.00. He is dependable and spot on! When I experienced a brake problem with my daughter's Saab the first repair shop told me it was the ABS unit and the repair would be in excess of $2500 and the shop wouldn't take the extended waranty program I had bought with the car.
