The job was done correctly with quality workmanship, knowledgeable management, efficient service, and peace of mind! I purchased a 2012 Jeep Wrangler about 3 weeks before the left engine head started to display issues in cylinder 4 (that nasty check engine light came on), but it turns out this was an issue with many Jeep Wranglers that year. Jeep had extended the warranty from 5-10 years, but I missed the 10-year by 1 year. The owner I purchased the Jeep from transferred his private-party insurance (insurance for mechanical issues) to me, but getting approval on any repairs is notoriously difficult from private repair insurance. However, the manager at Genuine was well-versed in dealing with such warranties and managed to navigate the minefield of excuses to get approval (saving me a substantial chunk of change). Genuine had my Jeep back on the road within a few days (considering this was a major repair, very quickly) and at no cost to me personally for the left head replacement. I elected to have them do additional regular maintenance (replacement of the belts and water pump) and the cost was very reasonable. I highly recommend Genuine Motors! I moved 250 miles away, to Nevada, and I still bring my vehicles back to Genuine Motors for service and repairs. Trust is everything!! I found this shop years ago (2009?) after the dealership completely jacked up the engine in my '92 Chevy K1500. Genuine Motors fixed it. That was at around 200k miles. With the consistently excellent care, service and work provided by David, Jeff, Ted and the crew at Genuine Motors the Chevy now has 300k on the original engine and is running strong. 2019: Just added a used 2005 Chevy K1500 Tahoe to my stable and yup brought it back to California for Genuine Motors to give it a thorough inspection, replace all necessary parts and make repairs. The day these guys retire GM vehicles all over the world will hang their heads and weep!!!! read more

If you are in the market for a new mechanic look no further! I was referred to Genuine Motors 4 years ago by my parents. Dave, Jeff and Ted are the most honest and patient and friendly mechanics I've ever met. They don't play games. Their labor rates are middle of pack, currently about $140 an hour. But they won't overcharge you for hours. They'll work with you if you want to get specific parts. They helped my friend with his 2011 Toyota Tacoma and, thanks to these guys, it looks and runs cherry even though it has 165,000 miles on it now. They aren't a body shop or a tire shop but if you need literally ANYTHING worked on they have a relationship with someone who will do the work with the same level of honesty and quality workmanship that they provide, at a reasonable price. A short story about how well these guys take care of their customers. Recently I had a friend get into some dire straits. Long story short, he made some bad decisions, one of which was to continue driving his '94 Ford Ranger for twenty miles AFTER it started overheating. He managed to limp it home but things didn't look good. I called up GM and told Ted that I have an old truck that may very well be a lost cause, but he offered to have a look at it. I was honest and told him that I had no idea how we were going to pay for the repairs, but it had to be moved before it got impounded for parking on the street. He said "Have it towed here. I'll diagnose it and I'll park it here on the street for you until you figure something out". It only took one day for them to figure out that it needed a whole new engine. We decided it was a lost cause and I told Ted the bad news. We can't afford to fix it and don't have anywhere to dispose of it. Ted said no problem! He stored it on the lot for nearly TWO WEEKS FREE OF CHARGE while I made arrangements to have it towed to the salvage yard. The grand total for this mess I dropped in his lap? One hour of labor. $140. Bravo Zulu. GM is the only shop I trust and I've referred several people here. Highly recommended. read more

I brought my older vehicle in because it would not pass smog. Dave the co-owner of the shop went above and beyond to diagnose why my monitors were not ready for testing. He had to do many drive cycles to get it to be ready for smog testing. I told him about my predicament of getting it smogged in a timely manner in order to sell the car and he was very kind to put so many hours into diagnosing and fixing what was wrong and he didn't charge me for his time. I don't see that sort of kindness and customer service very often these days so I was very grateful. Best news was he was able to diagnose the issue and I was able to get the car smogged. read more

So far, so good! I brought my '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee there today after purchasing it from a private party for an inspection. They were helpful and were able to take me the same day. The staff are friendly and honestly while waiting [quite nervously] to find out if I had bought a junker or not, it felt more like I had brought my car to a trusted friend than a sleezy wallet draining mechanic. In the past, most mechanics, have handed me a piece of paper and told me how much I would need to fix problems that I had no idea what they were. David, one of the owners, not only showed me physically what was wrong but also allowed me to join him as he test drove it to listen/feel for problems. They advised me of my options, and were willing to work with my budget [I am a college student after all]. They weren't pushy and helped me plan out the repairs I need so I can remain in budget and on the road. They were understanding about my needs and explained to me which repairs were needed ASAP and which I could hold off on until I could afford them. No sales pressure! :-) All in all, I've only had an inspection done. Tomorrow I'll be having my right axle and hub fixed. I will update this review once I have seen their work. read more

For the "too long, didn't read" crowd, go to this shop for spectacular service. For the people who read reviews read this: It's October, and everyone knows that means the Giants are in the play-offs. And for some of us it's an opportunity to score a set of tickets to game 4 of the NLDS at AT&T, and that's exactly what I did. The day had started off a little rough, with a 4 AM start right behind a midnight win by the Giants in Game 3. With the prospect of the Giants taking it back to Chicago by forcing a game 5 I was headed home to pick up The Worlds Biggest Giants Fan (aka my Wife) and go back into the city for the 5:30 game. All of this was put in jeopardy by a flat tire on my pick-up just as I came up on the Nave exit. No problem, I have a spare! And so I tossed it on the truck and could be on my way but for the fact that Dodge had put some unbelievably small stock tires on these things, and mine, many years later, were larger. We all know that is bad news for posi-traction rear-ends and so I needed to either patch the flat or rotate the small tire onto the front axle. Having only one jack and no patches, I headed to the local tire shop right there by Safeway. You wanna know what those jokers told me when I explained my situation? They said, "we will look at it no sooner than 4:30." Except that the Game started at 5:30 and I still have to retrieve The Worlds Biggest Giants Fan and get back to The City. Along comes Google, who steered me to my newest favorite auto shop, Genuine Motors. Talk about awesome customer service (I wasn't a customer until yesterday BTW)!! These guys understand that every once in a while we need a little help. I wasn't in the door more than 5 minutes and they were clearing a rack and rotating the little donut tire to the front axle so I could be on my way. I'm not even sure there was a hesitation before they got on the job. Now, a day later, as I look back on my experience at Genuine Motors, I'm pretty sure that I wasn't really getting special treatment. Everyone I met there was friendly. They were efficient. and most of all, I got the impression that they actually care about their customers, and in today's world, I don't think that's an easy thing to find. This is the second time I have ever written a review for anything. The first review was a negative review for an auto repair shop that claimed to be GM specialist. What a joke they were (Real Heros repair shop). I had several issues that Jeff and his crew fixed with precision that included hvac, engine rebuild and installation and repair on a clutch that should have been repaired by the other shop. My car came back to me better than when I bought it. I thank Jeff and his crew of hard workers for their fine workmanship and care for my well cared for Corvette. Hello internet! I would like to share how David C treated me and my car on Wednesdat Sept 10 , 2015. I had a problem I couldnt figure out after a couple hours of research and calling friends for advice. Upon driving up to his shop ( 1 block from the freeway, aprx ) and asking for an appointment / to be seen, David C comes out and fixes my ride in two minutes. I brought my truck in for a tune up and got an estimate. My tune up was a 60,000 mile tune up which isn't cheap to start. Unfortunately the bill I received was considerably different than the original quote. The staff kept informin me g they were finding multiple things wrong with my vehicle. At one point I just asked to finish the tune up and I will handle the other items later unless they had to be fixed to make it road worthy. The bill I received was almost 2,000 dollars higher than the original quote. I did express my dissatisfaction with no results. The list of other things needing repair would have been another 2,500 dollars. Seems a little high. After picking up my truck I have had nothing but problems. Lack of power, engine noises, and a decrease in gas mileage. I then brought my truck back to look at all the problems I had post tune up. Originally they wanted to charge me again for the reinspection. I was able to get the reinspection without cost, but they found nothing wrong. They blamed some of my problems on new tires. I have been here before and been satisfied. This experience was unacceptable and customer service was nonexistent. I will never go back. If I wanted bad service I could have just went to the dealership. I also caught them not been completely honest with pricing and times. For example charging over 2hrs for a repair that only took 1hr. I will never go there again nor refer anybody to them. They are no better than the high priced dealerships.... read more

We were passing through Novato on a road trip from Canada and our van was making a grinding noise. We took a chance and chose this shop based on it having good ratings on Yelp, and we were very happy that the good reviews were well deserved! Jeff hopped in our van right away and diagnosed the problem, they ordered a part and had it fixed by the end of the day. We decided to have the other side (wheel bearing) replaced as well as they advised us it was starting to go, they did the repair first thing the next day and had us on our way by noon. Couldn't have been happier with the speedy service, they were honest and trustworthy and kept our trip on schedule. Was quoted over $1,000 for my 60k fluid flush by the local dealer while upsold on a bunch of other "issues" due to some unknown "problems". I decided to try genuine motors per my normal mechanics recommendation. They found no problems with the car and charged me $550 for the 60k check up. Very happy with their service and honesty.
