On top of that, they didn't follow my request to leave an extra inch, so the pants ended up looking cropped and completely off, just as I had feared. I refused to pay because the garment was essentially ruined and unwearable. I even let them keep it since it no longer served me. They should have called me before making changes that deviated from the original plan. Instead of apologizing or acknowledging their mistake, the owner refused to take responsibility. I spend an average of $60 per visit, which is too much money to have such a simple request ignored. Heavy starch is not a special or complicated request. It should be done consistently every time. Are they the cheapest in town? Nope. Not at all. They're not ridiculously expensive though. But most importantly, they are honest. If they don't think they can get a spot out, they will tell you. That said, I've been pretty shocked at what they've been able to do! I brought them the shoes, and a few days later I picked them up, brought them home, checked them out, shrieked in delight, and wore them. They are seriously just like new. Most recently, I took in a well-made jacket with a zip-in vest that I've owned and dry-cleaned for years without a problem. When I picked it up, one of the zipper pulls had come off. Even more puzzling, that side of the insert had been sewn directly to the jacket. I brought it back. A manager was very nice, but seemed to suggest I was confused about how my own jacket was constructed when I asked why anyone would sew the insert in place when it still had two other working zippers. They removed the stitching, but despite having a tailor, said they couldn't replace the zipper pull. I got the jacket back with no apology, credit or other acknowledgment of the problem. This wasn't our first issue. On another occasion, they lost several expensive items my wife had brought in. After repeatedly insisting they didn't have them, they eventually discovered the clothes had been placed under another customer's name. Again, no apology or credit for the hassle. I get it, mistakes happen. What's disappointing is the lack of accountability when they do. After two significant problems, we're not particularly interested in seeing whether the third time is the charm.
