my only other point of reference for thai food in san diego is amarin thai. after "yelping" the place my fiance and i decided to visit to see if the reviewers were right. the conclusion? very much so :) my fiance and i usually get the same two dishes -- pad see you and some sort of yellow curry. a couple bucks more expensive per plate compared to amarin thai, but the food is definitely better and comes in larger portions. the kicker for me though was that they boxed up extra rice to go with our left-over curry. little gesture but i can appreciate that. will come again! read more

At night I almost could not find the place as there is large lettering for a different business that stand out at night that masked the dimly lit woood sign for the restaurant. I ate the Pad Thai. The serving size was average. There is a ball of shredded carrots that served no purpose but to take an incredible amount of space on all our plates. Found the dish to be over a bit too sweet and was not asked about spice level for the dish. But over all a good dish. The service was attentive. The decor nice but found the tables to be a bit small making the place feel less formal. read more

The staff is very nice and courteous and I really wanted to love this restaurant. However, the food doesn't taste very authentic. The curries are too thin and diluted. The beef had a distinctly freezer burn taste. The pad Thai which is the signature dish of every Thai restaurant and standard bearer was not quite right. If you are a neophyte to Thai cuisine, you wouldn't think it was bad, but any Thai aficionado would agree it was not up to snuff. I want everyone to be aware that the service isn't super friendly and attentive but let's assume it's a cultural difference that makes me feel that way. Aside from that ignore able issue, this Thai restaurant has created dishes that hold to a high standard. My GF and I ordered a coconut sauce curry with chicken, carrot, potato, and onion. The chicken was moist, juicy, and well seasoned. The vegetables were cooked just right, not to firm and not mushy. Their was a balanced amount of every ingredient which left nothing on the plate. We also ordered a spicy shrimp salad. Now that was nothing short of a flavorful adventure. There was a chili lime sauce over the entire dish that gave an spicy, citrus bite. The greens were crisp and fresh. The shrimp was cooked just right. My favorite part was the mint leaf that changed the game as we dug into the salad looking for new exciting flavors. Having a cool blast of mint after a spicy lime shrimp is a surprise and treat to say the least. Over all, this is a great Thai food experience. I recommend to anyone to pay them a visit. read more

For thai people like me, this place is just fine. Food are very small portion and taste is just ok.

This place is great! They have a large selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes to choose from on the menu (and the largest vegetarian selection on the island according to our waiter). Our food came out quickly and the blending of flavors was just right. Their food was not too oily like at some other thai places I have been to. I liked the added touch of the orchid garnish on or plates. The restaurant had great decor, nice ambiance and friendly waitstaff. I would eat here again when in Coronado. read more

My husband and I love Thai food but we often have a difficult time finding Thai food that is authentic in flavor and atmosphere. We set out tonight to find a place to eat while on our 27th wedding anniversary vacation on Coronado Island in CA but not necessarily seeking Thai. We found ourselves at a place called Swadees which is...yup you guessed it, Thai. We had no idea whether we would find a cheap Thai imitation or the real deal. Let me tell you this place is the real deal! First, let me start by telling you the service was impeccable! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Even though several other tables were full with patrons, they made us feel like we were the only people in the restaurant. They stood by scanning the room just in case one of their guests had a need. Then, there is the food; the food was fantastic and completely authentic to Thai cuisine. My husband had the Kao Pad Kemao and I had the Panang and vegetarian spring rolls. My husband said his wasn't as spicy as he wanted it to be but mine was perfect. It was about average price and they do take out orders. The environment was pretty quiet when we were there but it seems to be a place to go for an intimate date or with a large group and you could go casual or dress up. If you are in Coronado I would highly recommend you try this place out. We absolutely loved our experience from the first step in the door to the last step out. read more

I've only eaten here once and I was happy with the food. I did not expect the city of Coronado to have great Thai food so this place surprised me. I ordered the chicken basil plate which was delicious, however, I wish there was more chicken on the dish. Also ordered was the fried rice with tofu which I recommend as a rice dish. As far as customer service, the employees were polite. I wish there were more cooks in the back to help out since it took awhile to get our food. I ordered carry out from here one of the days I was staying in Coronado, and WOW. Just wow. The spring rolls were amazing, and curry dish that I ordered (I really wish I could remember the name), was so flavorful. They used fresh ingredients, and good God, it was HOT! I'm used to having to order a bit on the hot side because that's the way the place back home does it, so I ordered a "6" on 1-10. I'd hate to see what a 10 would be! This Thai restaurant had some of the the best reviews in all of San Diego so we went for it. It was good food and great service. Have patio seating so that was nice. We went for lunch and had the Pad Thai with Chicken, Beef Salad, and Spicy Fried Rice with Pork. We also ordered a side of the Chicken Satay for our 4 year old. Beef Salad and Pad Thai were really good. Rice and Pork was good too. Satay was a little dry but isn't it always? I was just annoyed that there were no lunch specials. For a Tuesday early afternoon on an island with lot's of restaurant options lunch specials would be nice. Or maybe that's why there are no lunch specials because they are on an expensive island...anyway I'm not used to spending $65 on lunch for thai food so I probably won't need to go back. read more
