I didn't know that Des Plaines was a hotbed for homelessness, but also am disgusted by any operation that uses anti-homeless architecture. I don't know if it's Metra or Des Plaines that's responsible for it but just not a good look.

You almost always get a seat, and the cars are properly heated in the winter and cooled in the summer. I highly recommend riding Metra if you can. Anyway, onto the Des Plaines Metra Station itself. This station is also a Pace bus depot, so it's convenient if you use both forms of transit. I've been to a couple Metra stations, and this one is pretty nice by comparison. It's a decent size with about four large benches inside for seating. There's also a convenience stand that sells coffee, drinks and snacks, and there are two restrooms. There is an attendant on duty to sell Metra tickets, but she is a little hit or miss. Sometimes she's really nice and friendly, and other times she's cranky and seems annoyed when you want to buy a ticket. It also seems like she takes a lot of breaks. She'll put up the "back in 10 minutes" sign and not be back in 10 minutes. Metra has finally started excepting credit cards at some of its stations, but not yet in Des Plaines, which is super annoying. You either have to pay in cash or write a check. Considering the moody ticket attendant and Metra's inability to adapt to technology, I highly recommend ordering your tickets online. Overall, I think riding Metra is a great value. The Des Plaines Metra station is clean and has a nice waiting area and snack stand inside.

I thought this was a pick-up service, not my weak-bladder'd aunt coming to pick me up after downing a 2-liter of coke! Don't expect a nice representative holding your name as you would usually. I had to call him to figure out where he was. Black SUV? Ok, there are five black SUVs, which one are you in?! I thought things would turn for the better, but that was me sitting in the backseat wishing for a heater in frigid Chicago. He gave me the same harassment that Michelle received. He claimed my card did not go through even though I used it before and also after making the reservation. I even called AMEX and they assured me the card did not go through. That still did not provide him enough assurance so I offered to let him speak to AMEX. He declined and wanted to swipe my card again. Fine, but the "standard" 20% gratuity was undeserved. Definitely attributes to why people who come to visit the US complain about our "service tipping culture." Texting? Check. Answering phone without headset? Check. Never again? Check. I made a reservation with them because they advertised themselves as pet friendly. I needed to drop my two dogs off on the way to OHare. I called 6 days ahead of time to make the reservation and told them the situation. They said no problem whatsoever. I then called again a few days out to again confirm the dogs wouldn't be a problem. Again they said "no problem, we do this all the time." Fast forward to the morning of my flight. I was waiting outside my building, driver pulls up and says "I won't take those dogs." What??? I told him that wasn't an option. He drove away. I called the company and they said they would call him and he would come back and pick me up. Guess what? He came back and said he wouldn't take me, then offered to call me a cab, then drove away and did not call me a cab. I almost missed my flight because of them and not only will I never ever ever use them again, I will let everyone in my company, as well as all of my friends and everyone out there on Yelp, NEVER TO USE CHASE LIMOUSINE.
