Arrived here on a Saturday, almost noon. The winery was empty. We weren't sure if they were even open, but they were. We are so happy we visited this winery. The staff, history of this wine, the family history and the beautiful property was perfect for our first winery stop. There are 2 options of wine tasting selections. One sweet, the other more dry/defined delights. We did 5 tasting of the sweet for $15. You can do your tasting at the counter, as you walk around, or in their garden area. Citlali was our Wine Educator and she was amazing; we loved her. She takes pride in her job, the winery and the company. We bought 5 bottles of wine. When the girl's trip makes it out of the group chat, we go to Napa. Sutter Home was the first winery on our tasting adventure and we had a blast. Upon walking in the staff greeted us with open arms. We started our tasting in the tasting room but decided to move the party outside to the gazebo. Morgan was incredible, sharing the history of the grounds and walked us through the tasting. From fresh unique notes, to a beautiful gathering space, Sutter Home felt like home. Naturally after coming home, I found myself venturing out to grab some of the wine that we tasted. Okay, okay, so Sutter Home might not be the fanciest of wine, but visiting their tasting room, and vineyards is really a pretty fun experience and I think worth the stop while you're in Napa. First of all, I found myself on a girls trip to Napa when sadly I could no longer drink alcohol, I know what am I even doing here? But for real, I had a lovely time here. Did you know that Sutter Home actually has a really robust selection of NA wine? They offered me a flight of their NA options and I happily partook while my friends enjoyed the regular variety. Now, I'm one of those people that usually doesn't enjoy NA alcoholic beverages - they tend to taste really odd to me and kind of just make me miss the real deal, but I came in with no expectations and I was pleasantly surprised by some of the NA options here. The reds tasted a bit more like grape juice than I would have liked but I think if you aren't drinking the NA white options might surprise you with the slight bite they offer. If I was rating this experience solely on the NA wine I would probably give it more of a 3.5 or 4, but the staff here is so kind, and for the price point the grounds are absolutely gorgeous. Overall, the whole experience is worth a stop, and it's nice to learn a little about the history of this winery and how it became such a widely distributed brand in America. read more

Sutter home is a extremely familiar Brandt many of us as you see it just about everywhere but to see this property in person was incredible. The grounds are so well-maintained. The house that sits on the property is so idyllic a dream of a chance to Airbnb there it's definitely giving Hemingway vibes. I found a new all time favorite summer wine! It's called Sangria and it's made by Sutter Home. Try it on ice or just cold! It's so good and it's not to sweet but just right with the right amount of alcohol content. I usually get the four pack but it also comes in a full bottle. So fruitful and fresh. This was my first time visiting this storied winery in the heart of Napa. We were greeted by Simone, who was friendly, patient, and helpful. We did a wonderful wine tasting, and chose the Founder's Flight and the Fruit Flight. Both were amazing. We took our Flights outside in their beautiful garden area, where they have great seating arrangements with umbrellas to block the hot sun, and a very nice gazebo. As the wind gave us comfort from the heat, we took our time enjoying each glass from our Flights. The flavors were rich, and the Fruit wines embodied fresh fruit juice with moscato. The combinations were perfect. The final glass was (I believe) a dark Pinot that paired perfectly with a dark sea salt chocolate candy. It was delicious. Quality experience relative to low cost - true definition of value! Having a complimentary experience was a pleasant break from the otherwise pricey Napa, especially since complimentary in this case, not only didn't mean having to sacrifice quality but actually was an even more enjoyable experience than some more expensive places. The tasting options include the complimentary wine tasting flight, founder's selection ($5), and sweet flight ($5) - there was 3 of us in our group so we each chose a different flight to share we could try all the different wines. As stated on their website, Sutter Home wines are "wine for the people" and their wines live up to this - all the wines we tasted were easy-drinking and fun! The fruit infusions are delightful - we particularly enjoyed the wild berry and pineapple. The majority of the wines tend to be on the sweeter side - perfect for those that enjoy sweeter wines and a fun treat even if you tend not to. Outstanding service! We were the only ones there during our scheduled tasting time and our host made us feel very welcome. Our host encouraged us to explore the charmingly beautiful grounds in between each pour. Sutter Home... one of the largest distributors of wine and a common brand among grocery stores. This is literally the only place that still does free wine tasting in Napa Valley... I won't even count Heitz cellar across the street because now it's just 2 free wine tastings over there. We came here with a friend who had NEVER done wine tasting before, so we thought this would be a good way to ease him up to the other wineries by starting him with a familiar brand. It was also a good excuse for us to visit, since the BF and I had visited many other wineries in the area but had yet to check out Sutter Home. The main tasting room has a little store, some information about the history of Sutter Home, and samples of wine-themed sauces. Funnily enough, the sauces had alcohol in them, so not kid friendly! The tasting itself is done at the bar - compared to other wineries, this place is very chill and laid back. HOWEVER... don't expect a super personable experience with your pourer. At most they'll give you a little bit of info on the wines, but they are more about serving efficiency than selling you a bottle. Makes sense given it's a very commercial winery. There are 2 tastings - one is a free tasting flight of their super cheap, generic wine you find in the grocery stores. I'm talking under $10 a bottle cheap. The other tasting flight is $5 for their "Founder's Flight" that are sold mostly from the winery and a few wine shops, so a little harder to find. These wines are more expensive, ranging from $18 - $30 I did the free tasting of their typical wines... none were very memorable. The reds were terrible; both the pinot noir and red blend had terrible mouth feel, little flavoring, and had a painful sharpness when drinking them. I wasn't a fan of reds before, but this was probably why. The whites were OK; I didn't care much for the rose they were advertising nor for the sauvignon blanc. The only thing I could drink and not dump in the bucket were the sangria and the moscato sangria... but these were basically sweet wines that tasted more like adult grape juice than wine. The Founder's Flight, however, was a lot more enjoyable. Unlike the free flight, these had a little more body and flavor. Especially the whites - instead of the metallic taste you got more fruity notes. We ended up buying a bottle of the Reserve White Zinfandel, since it was a pretty good wine and I don't see white zinfandel very often. As for the rest, they were pretty good but we didn't feel like getting more than a bottle here. I was tempted to get the Zinfandel Port as the price point was attractive... but I still have yet to go through my collection of ports. Maybe some day! So why the 4 stars? Honestly, this is a good place when you set your expectations - this isn't going to be a sophisticated tasting. The wines are just "OK" and are meant to be more economical and approachable. If you have a very refined palette, you won't enjoy it. It's also free (or cheap), and the tasting bar and garden area are pretty cute. Being right off of St. Helena Hwy, it's also a quick stop - so come here for kicks or for bringing first timers wine tasting. I do recommend spending the extra $5 for the wine tasting though... ;) read more

I know everyone thinks of Sutter Home as a lower-tier wine, but trust me, give this winery a try. They are super affordable and offer some of the best wines to taste on a hot sunny day. When I visit, I tend to go for their infusion tasting. The wines are super flavorful and refreshing. For only $15, you won't be let down. Additionally, their bottles are currently less than $10 each. I picked up two bottles on my way out after enjoying a relaxing time. You can even bring a blanket and sit on the lush grass. I will be coming back soon. You had me at FREE wine tasting! That says a lot for Napa since nobody there is offering anything for free other than Sutter Home! Sutter wines can be found in pretty much every single store, everywhere. But with that said they always have on hand a few exclusive wines that can only be tasted and purchased directly from them. Of course one of those happened to be the one that my mom fell in love with and let's just say we purchased wine bottles at every single stop on our wine adventure for our birthdays celebration trip to Napa! The winery itself is gorgeous with a historic Victorian mansion from the 1800's & a rose garden that features over 80 types of roses among many other flowers. Sutter Homes motto is "a great product for a fair price" Whether you drink a $10 or a $150 bottle of wine you'll get the same results. Hopefully a nice buzz :) Just something to think about for any wine snobs who need a really expensive bottle of wine in their life. Sutter Home is just wonderful! First time I visited was over 8 years ago and it's just as I remembered. The grounds are beautiful and just pleasant to walk around and take pictures. There's lots of flowers and plants and green grass. They also have a nice cozy little Inn that would be fun to stay at. The winery does get a lot of tour buses but it's not usually a problem. They have a big tasting area in the back for tour groups or you can taste in the main store area. We chose to taste off the complementary menu, I believe it was 5-6 wines. I just fell in love with the Moscato sangria, so refreshing and delicious. It was like candy. I think we bought 4 bottles of different wines. The guy who poured our wines was fun. He suggested other wineries to visit, made jokes and was very informative. They also have samples of mustards out, yum! Of course we snatched up a couple of those as well. My parents and I visited this winery for the first time two weeks ago. My father and I got to sample five different varieties of wine. I enjoyed each one of them. The one that I liked the best was the dessert wine. The host at the tasting bar told us that the dessert wine was exclusive and only sold at the winery. They have a very nice gift shop with such items as cute shirts, cookbooks, specialty foods and sauces and more. I especially got a kick out of the very tiny bottles of wine for sale. They also have a free wine club that you should join. It is a must stop if you are in the area. P.S. My mom didn't sample any of the wines because she is allergic to wine. read more

The grounds are beautiful, there's a small hotel adjacent to the tasting room. Tastings are free, and you can also pick up olive oil and spices inside the tasting room/store. The tasting room offers complimentary tasting until 5pm on most days and you can go without reservation which is nice. Out of their list of wines, you can pick to taste 5. I went with a bunch of sweet ones at the bottom of the menu. The pours are pretty generous, but the wines definitely burns and isn't a superior grade. For the more premium stuff, you do have to pay for the tasting. The staff were really nice, and they had a variety of stuff inside the store which was cool. We got some nice photos as the flowers are all blooming right now. Spring is great time to visit wine country. read more

I went with a group and didn't realize that Sutter Home was on the list but wouldn't have gone if I did know as I'm not about the Sutter Home life :) but I was already there so an open mind did I have. Well the young lady who did the tasting for our group was definitely not great, she barely spoke and gave the smallest pours ever...so many in our group weren't happy with not only her pours but her lack of information sharing. She did mention that this was her largest group and that the group before she talked a lot so her throat was dry but that's an excuse and honestly not ok for a paying group of people. Unfortunately, I have a very disappointing experience with their tasting room staffs. Two girls in the front presented 6 varietals(2 white, 2 red, 2 desert wines). My disappointment was not toward the wine but the staffs. The two girls cannot answer any questions regarding the wine I'm tasting: neither the appellation nor vintage. First, I asked them if they have the Muscat, the first girl straight up told me"these wines are reserves"! Second question regarding their Port wine's vintage, the other girl ended up telling me "there's no vintage". She doesn't even bother to explain why and what not. Just moved away to other customers. I felt totally humiliated during the whole experience. Was planning to purchase some bottles home, but these two staffs showed absolutely no interested in their customers and no knowledge about their wine whatsoever.
