New format Sutherland store (Springfield, Missouri). More like Ace Hardware. Minimal lumber, furniture, garden, etc. Lots of tools, fasteners, electrical, plumbing, etc. Truly a turning point for Sutherlands. Hope Sutherlands expands this store format everywhere. read more

While not nearly the size of a Lowe's or Home Depot, it is still nice to see the independents operating now and again. Box stores seem to be running everybody out of business, and while it's nice to have everything under one roof it's also a throw back to walk into a hometown hardware store like when you were a kid. There is just something a lot more personal about the experience. This place is about the size of a well equipped Ace Hardware so you don't have to make a day trip out of it to get screws. The staff were knowledgeable and knew exactly which direction to point me in for picture hanging hardware without getting that glazed over look in their eyes, like you see in the typical big box joints when you ask them where the front of the store is. So for all my misc hardware needs I have a feeling I will be back here more often than not. read more

There prices are affordable and, I've found, sometimes less than the big home improvement centers. This place has AWESOME sales on plants in the spring and some pretty good deals on heaters in the winter. Super helpful staff. I was sent here for toggle bolts, something I had no clue what were or that there were even different kinds and lengths of, and I told the guy there what they were being used for and he knew exactly which ones I needed and HE WAS RIGHT! I was in and out of the store in less time than it would've even taken to me to find someone at Lowes or HD. Plus it's a local family owned store so I feel better doing business with them than with a big faceless corporation. read more

I bought a poulan riding mower from Sutherlands in April of 2012. There is a problem with the deck on this mower. It is a munufactured defect. They will not let me reture it. They keep it a secret that they have a no return policy on mowers. If they would have been truthful about that I would not have bought from them. But when you ask about their policy they say keep your receipt. All other mower sellers allow returns for 30 days. I will never buy anything from them again. And I advise others to do the same.
