For those new to Japanese Food: many people assume that Japanese Cuisine is just about raw fish and steaks.
That couldn't be further from the truth.
It would be as incorrect as saying British Cuisine Is just Fish & Chips or American Food is just Hamburgers and Hotdogs. Japanese Food is nothing like Chinese Food, in fact it's quite unique. Live, try something new, impress your friends :)
Sushimania is a chain of Japanese Food Restaurants which seem to be quite ubiquitous. There are many locations throughout. I wanted to give this particular location in St. Albans, which I have frequented, their due review. However, much to my chagrin, this location was oddly not added on to the listings. It looks to be new. Well that's changed. :)
If you're looking for delicious comfort Japanese appetizers and meals, looks no further. In St. Albans, there doesn't seem to be a wide section of Japanese food. Happily this establishment is more than adequate to fill the spot. They have an extensive menu.
Although I have come by a few times to "collect" take away as opposed to eating in, I have I seen that the restaurant is quite attractive. It is modestly lit, not dark, not bright, just right, leading to a warm, more intimate atmosphere. Its a great place for a date but also for a family. The noise level, the few times
I was there, was quite low. You can barely hear any conversations albeit they were indeed occurring.
In terms of size, from my observations it is a spacious restaurant with different seating arrangements.
Ordering and pickup is simple.
To order online: go to
https://www.sushimania.co.uk
Then select the listing that is within your area.
Scroll down until you see "Outlets" and then click the location by you and the appropriate menu for that location will open.
Tip: If you have a choice to order online, I would use an iPad(tablet) or Desktop over a mobile phone.
The menu real estate leaves much to be desired on the phone, hiding some areas.
Another tip: if you want to know what the item is, click on the picture of the dish and it "flips" over to show you what it is. For example: you may not know what "Tori Age" is. Click on the picture and it will say "Fried marinated chicken nuggets".
Although ordering online gives you the luxury to take your time and also pay for it ahead of time, calling your order in ( which I had to when for some reason their site was working ), is quite simple. BUT make sure to order with the appropriate Order numbers next to an items name. It will save for confusion and lessen the chance of mistakes.
Pickup time or "Collect" as they say is 15 minutes by default. Waiting to get my order in the front of the establishment when I arrived to collect, the added luxury of a heater blowing down the front door on a Winters day was quite welcomed.
I included a picture of what I had ordered.
Shrimp Tempura- you get 5 - the batter a pleasant softer version
Tori Age - Marinated Chicken
Harumakj - Vegetable Spring Rolls
Gyozas- Fried Dumplings with Chicken
And Chicken Katsu -Sliced Breaded Chicken Cutlets
OK now I'm hungry. The other day I ordered 2 nights in a row. I think I know what I'm having tonight.
Oi, the stomach wants what the stomach wants yeah?
