Very tough call. Some of the sushi here was excellent until....and the service was friendly and attentive and helpful until.... Sushi: I was chowing down of their Deluxe Platter and enjoying it. Really good Toro, Black Snapper, couple others. But one of my last three pieces was mackerel and it was BAD. I shouldn't have swallowed it, the moment it was in my mouth I could tell it had turned, but I'd been drinking saki and thought "What the hell? How bad can this be?" Welllllll....in about five minutes I was puking my guts out in the restaurant's bathroom. Not good. When I got out, the waiter brought the check and hovered over me, making sure I tipped at least 20% after they just made me pay for food that made me barf. I kept belching and dry heaving through the night at home, repeatedly the taste of bad mackerel urping up in my throat. A top flight sushi chef would've caught that mackerel and pulled it from market, or, worse, the gave the piece to me KNOWING it was bad. I'll prefer to think he's just not a top flight sushi chef, as opposed to a malevolent one. But most of the pieces were good-to-excellent and the service was friendly and nice up to that point. I would probably eat here again, just be more careful about what I order. read more

Fantastic Ramen and Excellent Service! We had a wonderful experience at Sushi Zen! We started with the edamame and then tried both the Shoyu Ramen and Tonkotsu Ramen. Both were outstanding. The Shoyu had a wonderfully rich, savory soy-based broth, while the Tonkotsu pork broth was incredibly flavorful and satisfying. You could really taste the depth of flavor in both bowls. The service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and welcoming--and the prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food. Great food, great service, and great value. Sushi Zen is definitely a place we'll be coming back to. Five stars! read more

Got some takeout spicy tuna rolls and they were terrific. Nice and fresh. Fast, friendly service. Plenty of parking too.

The people here are very friendly and it has a great atmosphere and they make you feel very welcome. Their food feels more authentic than most. Their machines ice cream is my favorite. Their portions are a little small for the price and they charge extra for the shrimp sauce when most places don't. We had a great time overall. read more

My family has enjoyed this restaurant for many years until today. They initially refused to serve us because they said service dog were not allowed. I educated them on the difference of a pet and a service dog. Told them about the tasks the dog provides for me. At the end they agreed to have us stay. The situation created such an uncomfortable situation for my lunch party left. We left 20$ tip for the poor service person that was shaken and upset like we were. People with disability need quality of life as well...hopefully our experience will be beneficial to the next person coming here with a service dog. read more

While in Savannah for 15 hours to visit my husband on his work trip, we decided to order delivery to his hotel. I found Sushi Zen via the Yelp app and was able to place our order through the app as well (so convenient!). We went with a few sushi rolls including the philly (always a fave of mine), Pink Panther Roll, and Havannah Roll. All were delicious, I highly recommend the Pink Panther. I knew sushi wouldn't be enough for my husband so I also blindly added the Chicken Dinner which ended up being a box of chicken, veggies and fried rice -- he finished the whole thing so I'd assume that's a good sign! It did also come with a mashed potato ball which took us a few minutes to figure out what it was (we thought it was wasabi at first) but was really good. Delivery was extremely prompt and Covid friendly. All in all, we would certainly eat here again! read more

I tried to explain the difference but the language barrier was too great. So, having never got the Edamame or Zen bowl. Since I was in a hurry and don't mind Sushi I ate what they prepared. The food is delicious especially if you are willing to expand/explore with your taste buds. The California rolls was missing the cucumber which changed the taste of it completely and was not appetizing. This place is super sweet! Major hole in the wall hot spot with extremely kind people. We came in the day of evacuation for Dorian and they were so happy to see us. There were three other groups at the time. The main woman who I think runs the place was extremely sweet and gave us a hand made Japanese good luck charm to keep safe. It was rare to me to see tako yaki on the menu so I had to try it and boy was it good! If you don't know what that it, it's like a light potato ball with squid inside tops with delicious sauces, I think eel and spicy mayo. Different place have different topping like cabbage or carrots. Definitely an item to get! The sushi rolls we got were downtown, the one right above downtown, and the dancing roll I believe . They were quite tasty! The downtown and other roll are fried and smaller portioned but large pieces. I cannot remember the name of the roll but has fried octopus in it. By far my favorite roll I've have in a while. I can't speak for their Sushi as I don't eat it. I ordered the same meal twice to see if it was consistent and I had some of the best shrimp tempura ever. the shrimp was super fresh and delicious. The only complaint I had, and why I only gave 4-Star instead of 5-Star is that the second time the batter was much too thick and I had to peel some of it off. Their vegetables, however, had a paper thin coating of batter and were just amazingly delicious. I wish they would do the same with the shrimp. I also ordered a California Roll, which was A-okay.
