Small Sushi place and is one of the best in OC. It's not a swanky place and reminds me of the Omacase Sushi Bars in Japan. The chef serves 8-10 well crafted dishes, and they have been seasoned and sauced perfectly. Super fresh and tasty. No mixing soy sauce in a dish with wasabi and dipping your sushi in and ruining the flavor. The sushi is so good, every item has been seasoned , and topped with different little garnishes that add flavor and each piece melts in your mouth. Tuna served three ways all different cuts and each of the 3 pieces tastes totally different. The served two hand rolls and the seaweed wrap was crisp and made it easy to take multiple bites. One was a tuna and the other a blue crab, both out of this world. This chef is serving Michelin Star sushi! If you like sushi and haven't made a trip to Japan yet, this is a good place to check out. You don't come across small sushi spots like this anymore that deliver not only great ambiance, but at an affordable cost too! Parking can be a little tight because of the plaza but we didn't have issues finding a place to park. The menu is simple: omakase. You start off with a carpaccio and soon after, plate after plate of delicious cuts (not photographed: salmon and yellowtail). My favorite pieces are biased but I loved the sea bream, kanpachi, and golden eye snapper. The last to be served was the tuna assortment and man was this a great way to end the night! In the omakase, you get to try the blue crab hand roll as well. This was packed with crab all through each bite and was even capped with a generous serving of crab. At the end of the omakase, you are asked if you would like to add any additional pieces or hand rolls. While I was full, I added on my favorite pieces from the night. Great quality sushi that is homey and intimate. Sushi wasabi is a hole is a wall eatery in a small mall. There are only few seatings so reservation is a must. This place does omakase style (10 piece sushi, handroll, and sliced sashimi appetizer) for $80. We both got the omakase and my fiance got the miso soup on the side ($3). For drinks we got a bottle of cold and hot sake. The dishes placed out one at a time so it was a relaxing experience. The scallops and the blue handroll were my favorite! All the sashimi were buttery and decadent. My only complaint is that the course is a bit pricy for $80 considering the portion. This place is pretty good. This is located in a rundown strip mall with an autozone and 7eleven. We had a reservation at opening time (12 pm) on a Saturday. It was a little awkward since we were the only ones dining. From the opening time until we were finished with the omakase, not a single person came inside. This is definitely a hole in a wall place, but don't let that deceive you. The food was delicious. Overall, the food was great. The courses came a plate at a time, rather than your other omakase experience where you usually get one nigiri at a time. I loved the white fish course a lot but also their well known blue crab handroll. It was extremely smooth with a lot of crabby essence. I would usually like it with a more of a meaty bite instead of just a smooth paste texture, but nevertheless, it was extremely good. Service was great as well. The waitress came by quite often, but again.. .we were the only ones there lol The price can be a little steep. They only provide one option if you choose to dine in, which is the $80 omakase and you can choose to add on 3 more items for an additional cost. For an $80 omakase for 10 nigiris, a sashimi course, and a blue crab handroll without a dessert included is a little too much in my opinion. We came across this place after walking by to pick up some breakfast burritos at Hole Mole and were intrigued of the small size from the outside. Sushi wasabi is a very lowkey sushi spot that serves phenomenal food. Menu includes a 10 piece omakase set with a few other chef specials to choose from and we had to try it all. All of it was excellent! The staff was kind and attentive, and there is one chef behind the bar preparing the sushi sets. Although I've had these pieces of fish plenty of times before, each piece that was served here brought on what I thought was a unique and well put together experience of sushi flavor. Lastly, the pace of which it was served was perfect. There looked to be about 20 seats divided between 5 tables so it is recommended to make a reservation. Of course sushi of this quality is on the pricier and is comparable to omakase spots around OC. So if you're willing to spend on good sushi try this place out. 11/10 recommend. We were lucky to get a Sunday Night Mother's Day special reservation. Usually they are closed on Sundays. The special was the Omakase with dessert included. First time here and we were blown away by the intimate setting and high quality service & food. Our Waitress Rie paid constant attention checking on ginger, water, drinks and food quality. Delicious omakase experience and for a great price! It's definitely a very low key and unassuming place, but don't let that fool you. The chef and waitress at every professional and efficient. I love that they have a sign that says no California rolls. I don't even know if they do a la carte or you straight up have to get omakase. Doesn't matter, I'm always going for the omakase. Don't judge a book by its cover. We decided to try this place because my wife found it on Yelp and we were in the area. The establishment is located in a strip mall with a convenience store, auto zone, and another restaurant. Initially when we pulled up I was skeptical because of the location and the way the outside looked. There is nothing fancy about the decor but it's clean. Upon entering we were greeted by a nice lady - likely one of the owners who told us that it was Omakase only. If we were ok with that then we could sit. The chef went to work immediately. We were incredibly surprised wi the the quality of the fish and the flavorful preparation. After multiple rounds we left satisfied and pleasantly surprised. Solid straightforward sushi eats.... This review is overdue. I decided to try them during the take out only phase of this panini LOL. SO, I followed them on Instagram and watched our for their updates on what was on the menu and when to order. I wanted to ball out on myself so I ordered the nigiri deluxe and that comes with 11 pieces and a handroll. I also ordered three additional rolls. I love blue crab handrolls I definitely needed more than one with this meal. First visit was curbside and the hostess was sweet and delivered to my car with the quickness. I was so excited to get home and rip into this meal. I loved the way they presented the handrolls. It's wrapped up separately from the rice filled goodness. I like this because it kept it from getting soggy . The blue crab handrolls were tasty ,I'm addicted to blue crab so it would've been nice if they were filled a little more with crab. The favorite was the Waygu beef handroll , never had that before and the next time I ordered, I ordered 2 more of those :D Everything was so good. Super fresh and fulfilling . I don't recall all the fish I had but I have noooooo complaints with this meal. I came back the following month and it hit the straightforward sushi spot again. This isn't your maki roll type place. I'm a sentimental person and absolutely loved our experience in August -had to come back again! We got the omakase with bottle of Kikusui Junmai Ginjo. It was $65 pp: Albacore sashimi, Blue Crab Hand Roll, and 10 pieces of nigiri (Amberjack, Red Snapper, Scallop, Salmon, Yellowtail, Chopped Toro, Toro, Bluefin, and two that I can't quite remember). Really fresh and delicious fish. I loved every single piece! I think my favorite would have to be the Blue Crab Hand Roll. Generous amount and flavoring was delicious. The service and pacing of the dishes are great! There are also plastic screens between each table since the tables are a little close to each other. I have been living 5 minutes away and didn't know about this wonderful sushi establishment until recently when another Facebook user posted it on an OC Suggested Eats (during the pandemic) recommendation. After seeing the recommendation, I've tried out two of their dishes - the chirashi bowl (about $25) and the deluxe nigiri set (about $50) - both of which are absolutely delicious. First off, the sushi here is quality. The fish selections; the cut; the freshness - they are all here. I've now been here three times and each time, I wasn't disappointed by any of the sushi orders. The standout order is the deluxe nigiri set. You get a set of 11 different sushi items - my set included uni, which I haven't had since the beginning of the pandemic and was so delicious. It came with a handroll (I believe I ordered the blue crab) which was additionally just super solid. You had to roll it yourself with clear, easy instructions and was absolutely a delight. The chriashi bowl is a much smaller portion of a meal but the sushi quality is chirashi as good. The miso soup that the chirashi bowl comes with is super solid as well. The presentation is also exquisite for a takeout order. It's carefully prepared for both the set and chirashi orders and they did include an ice pack if I was taking a little longer than expected. Ordering is super easy - just call in and they're usually able to get your order done in 20-30 minutes depending how busy they are. They are also super kind (usually just the server and the sushi chef when I went in - masks required). This place has been on my list for awhile to try and so of course when they started offering togo orders during this pandemic, I had to hop on it. We had the following: - (1) Omakase order ($35) - (1) Chirashi bowl ($27) - (1) Unagi bowl ($11, so sad to find out after we arrived they offer anago!) - (1) Yellowtail bowl ($11) Omakase - I can't tell you every fish I had in there but the selection they had were good. Though I will say I was disappointed not to find scallop in my box when I saw it in one of the other pictures! Aside from that, the cut of the fishes were thick, rice portion was small (yay), and the fish itself was very fresh. My favorite was the toro in my box but honestly, I could've had a whole another order. The only disappointment was the blue crab roll. I think its store bought? It's not freshly rolled by them and the amount of blue crab in it was very little. It was pretty sad. I would've preferred 2 more fish pieces in my box than to have the roll. But I guess it helped with filling me up a bit? Chirashi - My boyfriend had this and I felt this was a bit more filling due to the rice. I think it had about the same amount of fish in it but the cuts were thinner and I think it was about 1-2 pieces depending on the fish. As much as I enjoyed my omakase box, I might go with this due to the fact it just felt it had a bit more and it was a little more filling due to the price. The chirashi bowl did have a sweet shrimp in it (they cut it up in half, so it looks like there's more.. but its just two pieces) but it was soooo sweet and so good! Honestly my favorite part in the bowl. Unagi bowl - This came with three pieces of unagi and a rice. It was more of a mini bowl. Unagi tasted fresh but the downfall was that it wasn't warm. It was just room temperature. Had the dish been a bit warm, I think it would've been so much better. Also for $11 i wish it was just a tad bit bigger. I'm sure they use the same rice for the bowl as they do for the sushi, so the rice itself wasnt warm. Yellowtail bowl - Fish was fresh and the size was just like the unagi bowl. Again, the main complaint would be the size and i guess the rice in this cant be warm due to the raw fish. Overall - We thought the fish here was fresh as it an be togo. We ordered half an hour ahead of time to allow them to prep in time and get the order together. We arrived on time and got everything as expected. Even though the omakase didn't fill me up, it was definitely good. Chirashi bowl would be my preferred option. Sad it didn't have any uni (But they were also sold out). Sushi Wasabi has been our go to place during the pandemic for our Mother's Day 2020 meal and Father's Day 2020 meal. For Mother's Day we opted for the Deluxe Nigiri - $50. If you pre-ordered a day in advance you would have received a free dessert. For Father's Day we opted for the Deluxe Nigiri Plus - $54. The Plus came with a choice of either a blue crab hand roll or spicy tuna hand roll. If you pre-ordered a day in advance you would have received a free dessert or edamame. Both came with a selection of about 10 fish. Fish is always fresh. Nirigi is nice and tasteful. Rice is not overbearing and proportionate to the fish. This had to be one of the strangest experiences I've ever had. I went to Sushi Wasabi for lunch today, and when I walked in I immediately felt strange as the sushi chef looked at me like, "Did you wander into the wrong place?" I waited a minute or so before a woman came from the back and asked me if I had a reservation. I thought that was a weird question as I looked over and saw that 4 out of the 6 tables were taken, but the sushi bar was wide open. I explained that I did not have a reservation for lunch, and she told me, "Sorry... we are busy and can't serve you." Wait... what? There were a total of 8 other people in the restaurant, and no one waiting for take out, so why couldn't they serve me? When I asked about sitting at one of the open tables or at the sushi bar, I was told that I couldn't. I then saw a notice on the counter for ordering takeout, and so I naturally asked if I could order sushi to go, but was once again told no. When I asked why, they told me that I would have to order a day in advance for a takeout order as it takes too long. Again, what??? None of this makes sense to me, and it was clear that I wasted a drive over there for lunch. I am still 100% confused at the entire experience, but one thing that I am 100% certain of is that I will never go back there again. From the moment I walked in to the moment I left, nothing made sense and I was made to feel very, very unwelcome. Save yourself time and aggravation and just go someplace else! read more

The small and intimate Japanese Sushi restaurant only serves real Japanese sushi and sashimi with no frills. The sole Sushi chef is a master in making very fine traditional sushi with no rolls, no California rolls and no Udon or Tonggatsu or Teriyaki or Yakitori or any other American hybrid foods. Upon sitting at a bar, you must have Omekase style. Only reason for four stars is that sushi comes already seasoned with soy sauce and wasabi like the name of the restaurant suggested. A real hole-in-the-wall that only those that know could find. The best omakase I've had in Socal, the fish is very fresh and the flavors the chef prepares is unique to his recipe. Each course featured dishes with complimentary sauces that highlighted the fish. I especially loved the Albacore sashimi, as well as the Crab Hand Roll. The Hand Roll was just creamy enough with the crab and the aroma of the crab was perfect with the rice, not too overpowering. The ambiance of the restaurant was also perfect for a quiet dinner, with the tables set up for reservations. Because of the small interior, you could really feel that the chef was putting care into each party that was in the restaurant at a time. The intimacy of each booth and the warm vibe of the restaurant made it perfect for a special meal with my family. I was somewhat disappointed this time and truly miss sitting at the bar where it's a slit second before the sushi or sashimi comes off the knife and into your mouth. But this may have been a singular "off" night as I had yet to experience a mediocre experience at my favorite OC sushi restaurant. It was good, it just wasn't phenomenal, which was my expectation. It was just ordinary that evening. I am always excited to take friends and watch their astonished expressions because it is usually melt-in-your-mouth, super fresh, highest quality, best omakase in OC. Being I am such a self-proclaimed sushi "snob", it was just okay on my last visit. The crab handroll was a bit fishy and the sushi just a tad bit "fleshier" as opposed to melty. The restaurant only seats a maximum of maybe 20 guests at tables (since the sushi bar isn't open yet since Covid). There are so very few consistently extraordinary sushi places in the OC, that on this particular night, it didn't meet my expectations. However, I am of course, willing to give them another try and hope that it truly was a one-off night. I will change my review if I change my mind next time I visit. One of the stores for my omakase project. By far it is the most stable and solid for the quality and techniques. No razzle dazzle. All Skills. They only serve omakase menu in store, 12 pieces for $65. The bar area is closed. This leaves 4-5 dining booths for each customer party. So better call ahead to reserve. Between booths they put curtains, making the experience safe and private. Fish quality is better than average, without too much sauces and flavors mostly are right balanced. Rice is airy yet firm, but surprisingly they only did with a hint or almost no vinegar. Overall tasting just like normal rice. Flavoring is minimal to accentuate the taste of fish. Fish course: Albacore Amberjack Halibut Yellowtail Salmon Blue crab handroll (*) Chu toro Oo toro Chopped tuna Black cod Kinmei tai Blue carb handroll is a must try. They are very generous with stuffing and the flavor was just incredible. At the end of course, It wasnt as filling as expected, so I ordered ama ebi and uni. Ama ebi was alright, not the freshest and sweetest, but uni has a bitterness after taste, so I wouldn't recommend. Overall a solid 4 experience. Fish freshness is around 7.5-8.5 /10.
