We found this place through Yelp as we wanted to grab some to-go sushi on the way to the SNA airport. We didn't realize at first that it was a cloud kitchen and kept looking for Sushi Atelier at the address listed to pick up our food. Eventually realized it's a part of a cloud kitchen that has several other offerings. We got the LA roll and the baked salmon roll. The portion size was adequate and they didn't skimp on the fish. Pretty good and quick delivery sushi! Fish is fresh and they have a really good variety of rolls that taste great. I would recommend ordering the sauces on the side, because they drizzle quite a bit of the sweet teriyaki on top. There's also quite a bit of sesame seeds on top, which also covers up the flavors; so I'd ask for that on the side. One thing I was trying to figure out is if the crab maki was really Krab maki. It was hard to tell since the pictures didn't show much of the red coloring that Krab has. I took a risk, and unfortunately, yes. It's Krab (I know, the price should have been a hint). It's not their fault though, but it should be a rule that the fake pollock Krab should be listed as Krab. Still very good though! And I'll try the other stuff in the future. read more

The scallop and crab hand rolls were good but super small! Freshness of the scallop was a average at best given its a to-go shop. This sushi spot is a "ghost kitchen" and is located in a business complex. They do not have an actual store front where you can sit and order food like typical restaurants. The concept for this spot is neat because they only do "take out". Their storefront is shared with other restaurants under "Smart Kitchens". When you enter the store front, along the walls you will see menus from many different restaurants. Underneath each menu is a "Ring Doorbell", which you use to contact the restaurant when you've arrived to pick up your food. There is a video playing inside the storefront with instructions on how to order or pick up your food. If you don't order your food ahead of time, there are kiosks you may use to order from any of the restaurants under Smart Kitchens. I would recommend ordering ahead of time if you can. I observed that the guests who ordered through the kiosk had to wait at least 30-40 minutes before their food was ready during peak dinner hours on a Saturday night. I ordered through Yelp and still waited 50 minutes before the food was ready to come out. I would be curious to come back during non-peak hours to see if the food comes out faster. For Sushi Atelier, I was appealed to order from here because of their photos. The fresh sushi rolls were tasty (California Salmon and Bluefin roll) I would order those again. The Baked Salmon roll weirdly tasted like cheese and the miso soup was a tad bit too salty. Overall, I would give this place another try because the concept of the kitchen is neat. Disappointed. Two of the sushi I ordered were described as having crab, but they turned out to be made with imitation crab sticks and mayonnaise. I didn't expect to see crab sticks there, and I definitely didn't expect mayonnaise. Another sushi was listed as containing crab and Philadelphia cheese, but in reality, it was imitation crab and definitely not real Philadelphia. I know the taste of Philadelphia cheese very well -- this was something completely different. A restaurant should be honest in its descriptions: if it says "crab," it should really be crab. If imitation crab or mayonnaise is used, that should be clearly stated. The presentation was beautiful though, and the tempura was nice and crispy. I just hope the menu descriptions become more accurate so customers know what they're really ordering. read more

DOOR DASH REVIEW so this order was a whopping $80 with tax and tip for 3 rolls. i really want to find something wrong with it but the only thing i can think of is that the portion was just small for the price and it was for two people. the size of the rolls are smaller than we are used to. But what they lack in size they make up for in taste. This is damn good sushi!! Quality alone makes it worthwhile. The Los Angeles roll was my favorite, perfect balance of crunch and freshness.
