I think we've finally found our GO-TO sushi spot in the KC area and we are SOO excited. This place is popping with customers - both takeout and dine-in. I'd recommend you come early to beat the lunch/dinner rush hours. We came at 11:45am and still had to wait a good 20-30min just to be seated. All that to say, this place is well worth the wait, ESPECIALLY during lunch time. Their lunch specials are off the charts when it comes to getting the most bang for your buck. Think quality food with good portions for a reasonable price that won't break the bank. Once we were seated, the service was quick and pretty good. The menu is a bit overwhelming with so many sushi options. - UNI roll (4.5/5): SO YUMMY! I loved this roll, and it had the perfect amount of sauce to fish to rice. I love salmon and this roll had a variety of different fishes. I've been coming here for years, and the quality has never dipped. It's easily the best sushi place in the Kansas City metro, in my opinion. There are many other more hyped, upscale or fancy sushi restaurants...but this place is significantly better than all the others. No gimmicks, no frills - just really good food with good service. I've only had one instant where the Spicy Crab Salad was really dry, but they fixed it once I told the server about the Spicy Crab Salad. Octopus Salad is 10/10 eating the octopus with a slice of lemon, and the pickled cucumbers is just the best ever, and not every place does octopus salads. Baked Mussels I would give a 8/10. Superb sushi is what you can always expect at Sushi UNI. This is the only place I will pay for sushi in KC and beats out many of the sushi spots back in my hometown on the east coast. The entire menu is reasonably priced (no $8 california rolls here) and the special rolls are STUFFED to the brim with fresh fish. My favorite way to eat at Sushi UNI is to share an appetizer of the seaweed salad (absolutely incredible) and then get 1 special roll. Quick sit down sushi. I tried this for lunch because of their lunch sushi special. The special I chose came with two rolls, 2 crab Rangoon and egg drop soup. It was a little pricy for lunch but it was a ton of food. I appreciated that the lunch menu contained their house recipes as well as basic sushi rolls, however, the menu was difficult to navigate. The lunch special rolls are listed all together on the back but there are no descriptions for the rolls on the page. I had to flip through the whole menu to see what each roll was. This would have been fine if only basic rolls were listed but I had no clue what a dinosaur roll could possibly entail. After trying to comprehend and remember what rolls I wanted to pick I ended up quickly just compromising when the waiter came around several times within about five minutes pushing us to order. I was appreciative that the staff was attentive and everyone was friendly but they were also very pushy. I ended up with the dino roll and the honey wasabi roll. After ordering, our crab Rangoon and soup was out in about three minutes. The soup was piping hot but the crab Rangoon was not. It made me think they were not at all fresh. The taste was good though. Would have been better if they were still warm. The sushi was out before I was able to finish my soup which was fine except there was no where on the table to put the plate. My sushi rolls were both very good. The honey wasabi was my favorite and not too spicy. The Dino roll was good but the fried outside was a little thick for my liking. The sauce on top mixed well with the roll and had a good full pallet of flavor. They brought us our boxes and check as soon as we were done and gently pushed us out. My only real complaint with my meal is that it was rushed. On one hand it was nice to get in and out because you can easily have a nice sit down meal in a 30 minute lunch break period but if it had been dinner I would have been a little frustrated. read more

The rolls were substantial and everything I tasted was a really solid combination of flavors. I can't remember what all I ordered because I came in starving and ordered six rolls (for two people haha). I just remembered that there wasn't one single roll I tried that I didn't like. That's a pretty big deal. Service was great for how busy it was on a Friday night. Going to the bathroom is a little like tetris, knowing how and when to dodge tables and servers. But you know, I don't really care about that because the food was good. If you're going for a moody, romantic ambience... this is not that. You're kind of close to everyone and the space is small. SIMPLY AMAZING! I don't know where to begin. From the service, food, and atmosphere, it was all top notch! A lot of reviews said that it is typically packed. We went on a Wednesday at 4:30 and were sat right away, we were actually the first in the doors. Very soon after us, it became busy but still lots of open tables. Our server Dawn greeted us right away and got our drink order. We started with crab Rangoon's and the gyoza. The Rangoon's came out super fast and very hot. They were excellent. The gyoza came out shortly after and was steaming hot as you can see in the video. They were excellent as well. We came specifically for sushi and our choices were endless. Dawn gave us the top three favorites as recommendations. We ended up ordering 7 rolls, with one of those being in the top 3 favs! It was so fun to see the cooks at work! Look at how hard the guy is working at creating our rolls for us! It was hard for us to pick a favorite. Mine had to be the Salmon Katsu Fantasy roll which surprisingly had raw salmon. It was my first time ever having raw sushi and it was very good. The crazy tuna and dinosaur roll were also some of our top favorites. Now I'd like to talk about the service as it was probably my favorite of our whole experience. We had at least four different people check on us. I love the teamwork and care that they had to ensure we had a great experience. Another server named Henry also checked on us often when Dawn was busy. Henry and Dawn both kept our drinks full and were right there to make sure we were ok. Even just when looking around, they checked to make sure we weren't needing anything. I haven't had service like this in a very long time. We will definitely be back to Sushi UNI as it is our new favorite sushi spot! read more
