I ordered takeout, and I'm glad I did because anytime the front door opens, a loud chime sounds, which would drive me crazy if I was dining in. The fish quality was good for my nigiri - next time I will skip the maki, it was light on the fish. I opted for a brown rice roll but it didn't taste as good, next time I will stick to the sushi rice. The ginger salad has delicious dressing, but it's just lettuce, no other ingredients. read more

I can't believe this is my first Sushi Mido review! I love love love this place!! Tonight for dinner I got the sweet potato roll, which had a great ratio of tempura to sweet potato. I also got the Salmon roll and requested to add imitation crab to it. They were more than happy to customize the roll for me and it came out great! The service was superb per usual. Overall, the sushi was pretty good and there were plenty of options to choose from as part of the all-you-can-eat deal including the rolls that sound like they are for dessert. The downside is that unlike many other places, nigiri, appetizers, and sashimi is not included in the deal but instead those are half of the regular price which is better than nothing. The crab rangoon was decent and so was the miso soup. The service was a little spotty and slow at times when it comes to ordering and receiving the food. Unfortunately, this restaurant has really gone downhill. It used to be one of our favorite sushi spots, but this visit was disappointing. The restaurant felt dirty overall; the floors and tables were sticky, and the sushi did not taste fresh- we didn't even finish our meal. The service was also uncomfortable. When we asked our server (gentleman with a Batman belt) how he was doing, he responded that he was "living the nightmare," which created a very awkward and unwelcoming atmosphere. Sadly, the experience no longer matches the quality this place once had. :( read more

I've been looking for a new sushi spot since my favorite one closed down during COVID lockdowns. I'd heard recommendations of several places around KC and hadn't found one to fill the void of favorite sushi spot. That was until I FINALLY stopped into Sushi Mido for a weekday lunch. OMG! It took many years, but I have now discovered something to fill that hole in my heart where sushi is supposed to go! We have been to Sushi Mido several times and have always received amazing service and excellent food. I am from Orange County California and can be a bit of a sushi snob but this place is great! Kim is an owner/operator here and has gone out of her way on multiple occasions to chat with us and make us feel special. We came in today and Kim recognized me by name and gave us a slice of cake on the house. This is a great family business that I highly recommend. read more

It doesn't matter what you get, from the experienced sushi eater to the novice, you wont be disappointed. But you will be very full! Our family really enjoy Sushi Mido. Regardless what you order, the fish and veggies are fresh and service is accommodating. I would advise against getting the all you can eat sushi unless you are planning to eat a minimum of 4 rolls by yourself. (While pricing makes sense if you eat just 3, the rolls are so big that you need a stomach big enough for 4 rolls). Since it comes with 2 sides, it is extremely filling. Personally, the 3 times that I have done it, I leave uncomfortably full (and regretting my decisions ) . This place is located in downtown "old Shawnee" and it has just enough seating. I like how they take an hour to shut down and I'm assuming allow their employees to have lunch and/or prep. If you can get here before 3 it's the best time to taste more things for a lower price, or if you are a big eater the dinner might best suite you because there is an unlimited sushi roll option! I have been here 3 random times, once for dinner and twice for lunch and I can honestly say I see why this place is a staple. The sushi rolls are made fresh to order and all of the ingredients taste like they are prepped the same day. The sushi rolls are the star of the show and why I keep coming back, but their potstickers are superb as well! Service is typical for a sit down make it as you order restaurant. My favorite by far is the Volcano Roll & Angry Dragon! Their hot & sour soup is second to none. Crab Rangoons are good. We stopped in for a quick weekday lunch and were immediately greeted & served by very friendly staff. We ordered gyoza & calamari for apps; both came quickly & very freshly fried, although the filling of the rolls was a bit mushy. The calamari were so fresh, and the waiter accidentally brought wrong sauce but apologized and very quickly brought the correct one. My husband ordered the bento box lunch with General Tso's chicken, miso soup and rolls, and was delighted. He said the chicken was fresh, tender and well-spiced. I ordered the 3 roll lunch special with hot & sour soup. The soup was great! Very fresh and ample mushrooms. I tried the pickled veggie roll, futomaki roll and rock & roll roll. All three were fresh beautiful. I wish the pickled veggie roll had had more than one kind (only daikon) but what was there, was good. Together, we ordered two apps and two lunch entrees that had sides (in total, more than we could finish!) for $53. This place is just right for a lunch spot, and we'll likely return, but it wouldn't suit a Japanese food purist- there are several American-Chinese menu items that look to be quite popular. In an east/west coast restaurant, this likely wouldn't be seen, but in the midwest it is unsurprising; both appropriate & well-executed! This is a great little all you can eat sushi joint. They're usually always busy so be prepared to wait. The staff is always friendly and efficient. They have a great sake selection. Usually the experience takes a couple of hours so I like to get a bottle to sip on throughout the night. You also get two appetizers. I like the edamame. Its not as filling as some of the other choices so I can still fill my face with plenty of sushi. I did try the crab Rangoon and it's ok. It's light and not huge but it's pretty oniony. When you go to select your rolls, you just mark it down on a sheet of paper and like magic, they appear. And then you repeat as many times as you'd like. But don't over order, they charge .75 a piece for any you don't eat. The sushi I've ordered has always been tasty and fresh. I've never had a roll that I didn't like. Was craving sushi one day and decided to check out a new place sushi Mido, it happened to be right down the road. I ended up ordering a mango roll, which contains mango, crab meat and avocado on the inside, then it's topped with tuna and salmon. The tuna and salmon on top did not taste correct to me so I ended up having to take it off the top and leave it on the side unfortunately. We also ordered the Las Vegas roll which comes with six pieces. It has salmon, cream cheese, crab meat and it's fried. It was completely over done in the fryer. There was so much breading on the outside it made it uncomfortable to eat. I also tried the spicy crunchy crab roll. The spicy stuff seemed to be artificial red flakes that I've never seen before. They have a couple good lunch deals but for dinner they have an all you can eat deal as well. I got a couple rolls and appetizers. They were all great! The crab Rangoon were good but could have been a little hotter. The gyoza was delicious. I also had the ginger salad. I tried the K.C. Such a cute little spot tucked away in the heart of Shawnee. We have always drove past it, never stopping in, until now. Oh my goodness, it's so yummy. They're fairly affordable. We got 4 rolls, crab Rangoon and egg fried rice for $50 with a tip. Granted, we didn't get the fanciest rolls but they were perfect. This really hit the spot and I absolutely will be back if we are in the area again! They also have lunch specials and $29.95 unlimited rolls per person. I was excited to try this place because of the reviews and because I love sushi. First, the waiter was alright. I felt he could have done much better at greeting us and he explained that we should "order about 30$ worth and then check to see if we wanted more" because we would have to pay .75 cents for any sushi pieces left on our plate... this made me very confused because there were no prices on this piece of paper he tossed on the table. The waiter came back and explained how to order on the paper. He got our drink orders. The sides offered are not tasty. Except edamame because you can't mess that up. The sushi was nothing special but especially the rice was the wrong texture and flavor. The wasabi was not fresh or tasty and the pickled ginger was flavorless. Overall it was not the greatest and we will not be back. Beware, unless you like subpar sushi with some penalty for not eating a piece of sushi. It's like a delicious roll, like a fried cheese cake chimichanga Ambiance - Restaurant was quiet, nice decor, Asian style umbrellas on the ceiling was a nice touch. Service - My wife was stabbed by my 2 year old, and got a splinter from the chop sticks. The waiter had tweezers at the ready and it was removed. The waiter had dry, but fun sense of humor. Someone told us about all you can eat sushi, so we wanted to go try it. We're big time sushi fans and are willing to travel for good food. Walk in the place was clean, plain but clean. It was busy on a Thursday night. The rolls were ok, nothing to write home about. There wasn't enough texture, meaning there was no crunch element, no saltiness, no flavors really. I did like the baby octopus roll and my husband the Batman (deep fried with jalapeño) was the only thing that had some flavors to it. From the menu, the rolls were decent price. We Love Sushi Mido! Warning! It is a TINY restaurant. Expect to wait if you come during dinner hours of 7-8pm m. If you can manage to make it by 6 you'll be alright! First. I can't tell you what all these rolls are and I really enjoyed all of them so I couldn't tell you my favorite but what I CAN tell you is what NOT to eat..... I do not recommend ANY of the dessert sushi rolls. I think it's just because I cannot associate sweet fruit tastes with Rice... my taste buds just can't appreciate it. It might be for you but it wasn't for me. It was like throwing up Hawaiian Punch and Rice. Ok. *****Let me just say****** it was 4 of us with a huge appetite and we all did the "All you can eat" which runs about $50 per person. Every time when we go we all end up only eating about 2-3 rolls max per person. You'll save a few bucks by just ordering the rolls you want (if you know what you want) but the sushi Buffet is good if you want to try different rolls. Obviously you could do that if you just ordered the rolls you wanted to try. Also keep in mind you'll be charged approx .50-$1 a piece for the pieces of sushi you DONT eat on the Buffet. My husband has been begging for us to finally try Sushi Mido for their All You Can Eat Sushi. This weekend, his dreams came true! The place is on the smaller size. We came with a group of 6 at 6:45 on a Sunday (Memorial Weekend) and waited for about 30 minutes. I had called to see if they took reservations and at this time, they do not. Lately, I've been ordering a rainbow roll anywhere we go for sushi and this has to be my favorite! The fish was fresh and I liked how they used avocado on top as well.
