The fish is fresh and well prepared. We loved the rolls and sashimi. It is very affordable and not overpriced as well. Service is prompt and responsive. Definitely my go to place for affordable but high quality sushi!

Sushi UNI has somewhat of a cult following in the KC metro. It's nestled into an unassuming strip mall in Lenexa, and is well known for offering spectacular lunch deals. Over a year ago I tried it out for the first time but it was so packed at lunch I couldn't get a table and had a just okay experience. I'm glad I came back and had a chance to really take it all in. Knowing it fills up for weekday lunches I met my sister here for an early lunch around 11:15 and we were able to get right in and snag a seat. It should be noted that even on a Monday this place filled up and by the time we left it was at capacity with a wait forming. Their website is a bit misleading as when I checked this week it still had the old lunch prices of around $10 for two rolls, soup or salad, and two crab rangoons. I was in awe of this deal so when I saw that the prices had bumped up to $12 I was not surprised - I still think $12 is a great deal in today's economy for TWO sushi rolls, soup, and two crab rangoon. You also get tons of rolls to choose from so it's a really fun lunch experience. When our food came out it was a lot so I think next time I might even go for the one roll lunch, but it was such a great meal and even after tip was good value. The servers were nice, the hot and sour soup was honestly some of the best I've ever had, and I loved the sushi. I'll be back!

This place is popular for a reason, that's for sure. We have only been here once since there doesn't seem to be a way to make a reservation and the place is always crowded. We got lucky the other day since we wanted an early dinner and we managed to snag the last available take before the big rush. Our server was friendly and prompt. The food portions were very generous. I am a big fan of lemon rolls that were popular in California, but hard to find here. Sushi Uni has both a salmon and a tuna options. I'd love to come back and try the tuna.

Sushi trio for lunch. KC roll. Steak hibachi with fried rice.

This place never disappoints. We usually come in for dinner, but Friday for lunch. They have a great lunch menu, which offers high value for not just sushi, but even hibachi style entrees. My favorite role, KC roll, was not part of the lunch special, so I had to obviously order that on the side as it is a staple every visit. The servers are very friendly. It gets pretty busy, so immediate seating might not be guaranteed.

I returned to this establishment in December and was immediately greeted by the hosts. They were very friendly. When we were seated, I ordered the lunch special which included 2 crab rangoons, a soup/salad, and three rolls! The food was warm, delicious, and well proportioned. I highly recommend visiting this place if you're craving sushi, especially for a great price! I will definitely return.

87th street roll and UNI roll

Food - A solid contender for Best Sushi in town. Service - Good. Ambiance - It's a sushi place with tables and a 6 seat sushi bar. Haven't been here in what seems like years, glad to be back, ordered my "not-so-usual". Spicy Crab Salad, 87th roll and UNI roll. SC Salad is a very generous portion, and mighty tasty, especially with some low-sodium soy sauce. Plenty of crab stick, seaweed, cucumber, and some very mini-croutons aka crunch. Both rolls are delish, each containing their own unique flavor and texture. They also have a wide variety of sake, beer and wine to maybe throughly pump up your bill. Luckily even as of 9/25, their prices are still pretty reasonable, compared to others in KC

It's been a while since I've been back, and I forgot how much I truly enjoy this place! The wait was a little long, but definitely worth it. The service is consistently great, the sushi is some of the best in the area, the prices are very reasonable--and they have the best spicy crab salad too!

Chi H.

Awesome place to get some sashimi and sushi. Add this place to your list of your favorites now. The fresh cut of fish are reasonable big for the price and worth it. Can't go wrong with the platter so you can get a bit of everything. It's good to share with your love one so you can experience the delicious together. Love coming here and oh the salads here are good as well too. Can't go wrong with anything here. Will come back.

Yum!

The lunch special can be pretty darned good! Finding a parking spot and a table is not easy 11:30-12:30, but wait until 12:45 and the place opens up again. The service is extremely fast and attentive. I have eaten there about five times and it was always a good experience.

Outstanding sushi! We went here with some friends off of their recommendation (their favorite sushi in KC) and it certainly lived up to expectations. Their menu is quite robust in terms of sushi options but they also have delicious soups, salads, and appetizers. I enjoyed the gyoza but my favorite was the stuffed mushrooms. Great flavor. I highly enjoyed the dragon roll as it was perfect for my preferences. We all left full and happy. The service was quite good. Make sure you have a good amount of time, however. We went at 6:00p on a Monday and it was a 20-30 minute wait. We were not bothered by this but I just want to give prospective diners a heads up.

Ahí tuna roll

This is my top spot for sushi in the KC area. If you're going for quality, this is it. My favorite role is the Ahi tuna roll. It never fails me. I've been going here for so many years, I'm really grateful because one year the manager Gave me a gift for Christmas. I really feel at home here. It has that hole in the wall Asian restaurant vibe. It's great if you live near Lenexa. I often catch myself getting this after the gym if I'm too lazy to cook.

My roommate and I frequent this location quite often. We love their lunch special because you can get 3 rolls for $15. However, there's only certain rolls you can get so just keep that in mind. I have tried their mussels as well and I wouldnt say they are the best I have had but they are pretty good and I do recommend them. My only complaint is the locations size. Its super small so tables are packed in together which can be a little uncomfortable when enjoying your meal. Overall though, I do recommend the location.

Then we sat down at the teppanyaki table, and things went south faster than a dropped egg. Our server was solid, but the "chef" was a total trainwreck. It felt like we were an inconvenience to his schedule. He just rushed through the motions with zero engagement, like he was checking off a grocery list instead of actually cooking for people. The "Highlights" (and I use that term loosely): The Timing: I ordered the steak and scallops. He finished my steak before the rice even hit the grill. My cow just sat there getting cold while we watched him "work." The Culinary Wisdom: When one of us asked if the beef was a strip or a ribeye, he literally just said, "It's steak." Cool. Glad we cleared that up. The Cross-Contamination Special: We had a vegetarian in the group. He proceeded to cook her tofu directly in the steak juice. Truly a "chef's kiss" moment if you hate your customers. The Doneness (or lack thereof): The salmon was basically still swimming (raw), and the scallops were charred and tasted like fire and brimstone. The Mussels: I grabbed a side of green mussels. They were... fine? I've had much better elsewhere in town, but they were the Olympic gold medalists of my meal by default. The Silver Lining? The Sake. It came in a take-home glass, was incredibly easy to drink, and was 100% necessary to get through the rest of the experience. I can't speak for the sushi, but if it's handled with the same "I don't want to be here" energy as the teppanyaki, I'd stay far, far away. Two stars only because the hostess was nice and the Sake did its job.

Be extra grateful and make it easy so they can seat the actual pre-reserved folks. The place is small enough and the service is nearly 2:1, so they'll definitely remember you. With that said, we tried it best to be on good behavior but that Sake flight had us feeling spicy! Which I'll speak to next, the sake flight delightfully surprised me, and gave me a few things I liked enough to order again. Did not expect that. But I shouldn't be surprised, they're obviously going to have something wildly well-curated, given the successful history of Anjin's creator. I know I'm supposed to talk about the food. But it almost feels pointless. It was obviously amazing. It's a small curated menu. They're famous for their sandwich, whatever rotation they're serving will be sure to please you. They didn't have a lot of vegan options on the menu so my friend got the cabbage dish and it was absolutely wonderful as well. That might be my only watch out if somebody is a vegan, check out the latest menu before going. With such a curated, small menu it may or may not be in a vegan's favor depending on the season.
