Never thought I'd be writing a review for an airport sushi spot, but here we are. Located past duty free after security, this place sits in a kind of upgraded food court area with a mix of walk up counters and seated restaurants. The setup is interesting. You order at the counter, grab a table, and they find you to deliver your food, bring extras, and handle the bill at the end. Not your typical airport situation. I personally was not brave enough for airport sushi, so I went with the yakisoba and a strawberry tequila drink. Yakisoba was just okay, maybe a 3 out of 5. It did the job but nothing memorable. The drink, though, was a 5 out of 5. Super refreshing and exactly what you want before a flight. My friend went for the sushi and she loved it, said it tasted really fresh, even said it was some of the best she has had. Unfortunately I broke a cardinal Yelp rule... I didn't read the reviews before coming to Sushi Tequila. Oops! It wasn't awful, but there definitely were valid warnings in past reviews. We had a little over an hour to kill and we wanted to eat and have a couple drinks before it was time to board. We love sushi and we love tequila, so we thought it was a no-brainer! Service was quick and friendly, I will say that. We got a couple of double margs and those were yummy and the pours were solid. We got a California Roll and the Kimchi Ramen to start. The roll was sadly not great and we both only had a piece or two and moved on. The Kimchi Ramen was SOLID, I will say that! My husband loves kimchi so he was all about this. We ended up still being hungry so we also got the Chicken Ramen which a little lackluster in comparison to the Kimchi. Now, our shock and surprise came with the bill... After tip it was $180 which is INSANE work for an airport meal. We've spent that much on more upscale date nights back home so we were absolutely shocked. Not sure what I was expecting as this is an airport restaurant and bar in Cancun (a vacation place where people come to spend their money). However, the prices are outrageous. Make sure you do the math as many of the foods here start at $30. They have many bar seats and a bunch of tables that have outlets at them which is nice. The service was fast and the bartender was courteous. I made sure to convert the pesos to dollars before I ordered. But where they got us was the drinks. One bottle of water was almost $10 and my boyfriend ordered a "vodka sprite" so they gave him grey goose and charged him almost $30 for a mediocre drink in a plastic cup. Be sure you specify and convert prices before you come eat here! The miso soup was extremely underwhelming, the noodles were the blandest I've ever tasted. It did the job for an airport bar but I didn't appreciate feeling as if we were being taken advantage of. read more

Was excited to see this option at the airport but then regretted it after the meal. The prices are staggering, the quality is poor and the worst part is that they sneakily overcharge you. I ordered the yakisoba dish which used spaghetti noodles, for god's sake. My BF got the $30 bowl of ramen that used instant ramen noodles, not buckwheat. The broth was the thinnest, blandest I've ever tasted. Since you cannot drink the tap water, you have to order a drink and they conveniently do not have a drink price menu listed anywhere. DO NOT EAT HERE. Worst ramen in the world and ridiculously overpriced. The noodles were mushy and overcooked, and the broth tasted like it was made from an instant noodle packet. The vegetables inside were very salty (how? Why?) and overall just highly undeserving of the high price tag (488 pesos or ~$25 USD). They do not have free tap water either, instead forcing you to pay for bottled water. When we learned that, we decided to get a bottle to share between the three of us. However, the waiter returned with a liter bottle instead of the regular size that he gave to individuals, charging us 172 pesos, or about $9 USD. Overall, this was probably one of the worst ramen places I have ever been to, so you'd probably be better going to any other restaurant in the airport. Anyone who says this place is good has absolutely no taste buds.. I was desperate for soup (I was pretty hungover) so I picked this place despite the sketchy name (SushiTequila?? Like why?) so it's probably my fault for thinking this would help me. But I ordered a wonton soup since it seemed like it would be the only thing I could put down. The guy asked if I wanted to add ramen so I said sure. First of all, the order took REALLY long. At least 25 minutes, but luckily we had a lot of time to kill before our flight. When my food arrived, it wasn't wonton soup. It was soup with white things floating in it. The wontons weren't wontons.. there was nothing in them so it was just the skin. And the "ramen" was definitely not ramen. I couldn't eat any of it. When I was asked to pay, the guy asked "18%?" to which I replied "sure".. I mean he brought me the food and I wasn't gonna say no. I later looked at my credit card statement and I was charged $44 for "food" that I couldn't even eat. Today's the second time my partner and I ate here. It's conveniently located at the Cancun International Airport's Terminal 3 where American Airlines is, which is who we flew with to return to Chicago. We wanted a healthier option than burgers, so we decided to order from here. Today, I decided to try their spicy salmon roll (extremely delicious, great kick, and to die for), and we both got their mixed yakimeshi rice except mine had chicken in it. We didn't dine in with them this time and decided to do take out since we were already seated by the Starbucks closer to the gates. The staff were all very welcoming, inviting, and so eager to help. It made me feel like I was VIP. I was told to come back in about 15 minutes, I actually went back after 10 minutes, and our food was ready. I will say that dining in makes the food slightly fresher because it's piping hot and served immediately, whereas takeout isn't the same. Sushi itself is great whether it's takeout or dining in. However, I can't say the same about the rice. Overall, it's a great meal considering the fact that I've been eating fried chicken tenders and french fries at my all inclusive resort (yes, stay tuned for my review on that). Airport food but not bad! Menu had a lot of things- sushi, ramen, poke bowls, noodles. I went with the vegetable tempura and the mixed meat teppanyaki - shrimp, beef and chicken. They offer a salmon teppanyaki for an extra charge. Food came out quick and hot. Was tasty. Not authentic Japanese. Breading in tempura was good but the dipping sauce needed some help. The teppanyaki was as expected. Meat with veggies. I was glad to have the veggies since I didn't get much in Mexico. The sriracha was my savior. I put that on everything as well as their soy sauce which is a little different than normal soy sauce. People are the bar were nice. Made a few friends. Bar tender was awesome. I asked about the mezcal. He showed me the bottles and I went with three 1.5 ounce shots of various mezcals. They were served with seasoned oranges. I had to leave to use the restroom during my meal; the bartenders didn't mind watching my place. In the end, you can pay with card or pesos. As a huge sushi lover, I was definitely NOT impressed. First, let's start with how the servers randomly stop you as you're walking by and push a menu into your face. Which surprised me because they continued to seat people in the bar area. If it's at capacity, HOW CAN MORE PEOPLE BE SEATED? Food: Dragon Roll: Bland. 1/5. I've had much better dragon rolls with higher quality ingredients for half the price. Salmon Roll: this roll was food poisoning waiting to happen. The fish was old and had a very unpleasant smell to it. We couldn't eat it. We told the server and he said he couldn't smell it. The lady with the awful cold besides us could smell it and she was heavily congested. Edamame: I'm sorry, but these were also awful. Drinks: Their margaritas were ok. Only good thing about this place. Will I be back to this place next time I fly through Cancun? Absolutely not. And If I were you, I wouldn't waste my time or money.
