The restaurant is to go only, which was a wise move since it is not a big shop and table service takes up a lot of time and energy for the staff. At early dinner time they were quite busy, with walkin and phone orders coming in at a good clip. Prices have gone up but they have gone up everywhere and if they can maintain the quality they will see more business from us in the future. The Mapo had a nice heat level and a good amount of Szechuan peppercorn to provide that tingling sensation. The Szechuan beef had heat but not so much as to make us olds reach for the zantac (immediately). Veggies were fresh and the dish was not killed by a heavy sauce. If you haven't been in here for a while, there is no better time than the present to give them a try.

I'm happy to say this joint is actually legit! I could see this restaurant thriving in Southern California as well. In fact, very few spots in SoCal offer so many toppings on a ~$16 ramen bowl. It's the norm to pay extra for bamboo and other veggies (and sometimes even spice), which Zen auto-includes in many of their offerings. Our takeout orders were packaged efficiently. I like how it's basically like an instant bowl ramen format, where the soup is in a bowl already, and the noodles and toppings are in a separate container above the soup. So you'd just need to pour the latter into the former to enjoy. My only criticism is that the spicy tonkotsu wasn't very spicy at all. If you told me there was zero spice in it, I'd believe you. But my spice tolerance is quite high, to be fair. Still, I'd def smash another bowl given the chance.

I noticed they took out the floor seating on the upper stair level and that bummed me out a bit. We go miso soup, a spicy tuna hand roll, soft shell crab appetizer, a spicy tuna roll, and sushi house roll. The rolls were big and very yummy! The soft shell crab tastes fresh and was very hot coming out! So yummy! Our waitress was very attentive and the sushi chefs were quick with the rolls! We will definitely be back!
