Great service, amazing food and chill location! They had so many options on the menu but I opted for a speciality roll and salad. Both were flavorful and refreshing. Will make sure to come back on my next visit to Napa!

Stopped by for a quick lunch today, Food was good, service is attentive. We had beef sukiyaki which smelled and tasted really good, white rice was a bit hard but I softened it with the sukiyaki broth. Sushi was great and the fatty torro was excellent. Overall it was great and I definitely recommend it.

    Tempura

If you want unauthentic and bad Japanese food, this is the place to get it. The rice is hard and clearly some cheap form of short grain rice. Sushi did not look fresh. The miso soup is so salty. The tempura was so oily but probably the only thing that was edible. The grilled fish was burnt and dry. The chicken nabe stew was blend and chicken was dry. The ambience was what you expect. Just an average Japanese restaurant decor. Tight space. Nothing special. The waitress never smiled. Just took order and poured tea.

Two rolls of- a lobster roll and a special caterpillar roll, which was my favorite!

Wanted a quick lunch, ordered a couple sushi rolls to go. Had a lobster one and another fancy caterpillar roll, which I liked even more. The place was really cute. Wish I had time to eat in!

We had reservations at this restaurant and were seated immediately. It's a casual ambiance. We ordered the pork gyoza and three rolls - Diablo, Sabba-dabba-doo and the Venus roll. The rolls were good but messy, they could've been rolled a little tighter.

Came back again since we enjoyed our first visit! Unfortunately this time around the service lacked but the food was good. The rice was cooked perfectly and the fish portion was generous. We sat down and placed our order at 6:50 pm. We waited a bit and realized our appetizer still hasn't come in so we checked in with our server who said it was coming out shorty. At 7:35 we were given the appetizer and 5 minutes later all the sushi rolls and dishes we ordered. It took 45 minutes for the food to come out, which is fair given they were busy with to go ordered it seemed. But once that subsided I noticed tables who were seated before us started to get their food first. The lack of service in stating that it was going to take longer for the food to come out as well would have been appreciated. We don't mind waiting but I believe it's important to communicate with the customer that food may take longer so that we are not left looking around wondering what is going on. Overall, might have been a one off night and disappointed that I left feeling this way because the food was so good this time!

A Hidden Gem for the Holidays…read more My wife and I have made it a tradition to stay at Solage in Calistoga every year during the holidays. It's our ultimate spot to completely unwind, relax, and just indulge in the food. Having Solbar right on the property makes things so incredibly easy--you don't even have to think about leaving the resort. The Vibe & Ambiance The space itself is gorgeous but still feels entirely unpretentious. Inside, you're greeted by massive, high-vaulted wooden ceilings decorated with these unique organic twig orbs. They're filled with tiny lights that honestly look like a canopy of starlight. During the day, the huge windows flood the room with natural light, but at night, the whole vibe shifts to candle-light, and the massive fireplace keeps everything warm and intimate. If you want a more casual setup, there's a full bar on one side with a few high-tops, plus a massive coffee table and a great sofa area. We've actually eaten a full meal right on the sofa before, and it's super comfortable. Exceptional Service What really sets Solbar apart is the hospitality. The service is exceptional, and it's the kind of place where the same servers actually remember you from your prior visits year after year. That personal touch goes a long way. The Food (Our Go-To Standouts) The kitchen is incredibly consistent. If you happen to be there for New Year's Eve, their prix fixe meal is always a massive hit. Over our various trips, we've pretty much dialed in our favorite orders: Breakfast Staples: * The Silverado Breakfast: My standard go-to. Two eggs over easy, solid morning potatoes, your choice of bacon or sausage (I alternate), and an English muffin. * The Hashes: Both the Duck Confit Hash and the Corned Beef Hash are outstanding. They come with poached eggs, peppers, onions, potatoes, and a rich, perfectly executed béarnaise sauce. * Cinnamon Sugar Donut Holes: Do not skip these. They are incredibly decadent, warm, and absolute perfection. * To Drink: Order "The E-C" juice. It's a fresh blend of carrot, pineapple, and orange that wakes you right up. Dinner Highlights: * Grilled Yellowfin Tuna: Served with charred carrots, chile scallion oil, mole amarillo, and pumpkin seeds. I could honestly eat this plate all day long. * Crispy Saint Louis Ribs: The tamarind espresso BBQ sauce on these is unbelievable, balanced out nicely with fresno chiles and puffed wild rice. * Duck Banh Mi: A killer twist on a classic, packed with charred scallion hoisin, quick pickles, fresh herbs, and a kick of sriracha. * Hawaiian Hamachi Crudo: Incredibly fresh and vibrant, paired with an English pea miso puree, watermelon radish, pomelo, and a sharp shoyu vinaigrette. Whether you're stopping by for a casual breakfast or a multi-course holiday dinner, Solbar delivers every single time. It's a massive reason why we keep coming back to Calistoga.

The sushi chef, his sous chefs and the staff lead a splendid night. Each step was curated in its own way with descriptions for anything we ate, origins, and the connection with the chef. Things started outside in a waiting area with an introductory drink and appetizer. Once things were ready to go inside, we were ushered in and had name places for each of our seats for the evening. If you needed to use the restroom there isn't one organic to the space and you had to go back into the main hallway. We were given 16 courses of fish listed on small chalkboards along the back wall, and then dessert to follow. Everything tasted delicious. My partner had gotten the sake tasting to go with it which added nicely with the food. My favorites for it were the tuna tail, miso steamed egg, hamachi, the shrimp, and the baby octopus. The tuna tail was such an interesting presentation, and the flavors were simple and clean. The miso steamed egg was just comfort. The hamachi melted with how it was prepped with each bite which was great. The shrimp was really fresh, and easy to bite through. The baby octopus tasted amazing, simply seared and was so easy to eat. A number of ingredients were flown in fresh, or from Japan as they added to the dish. The wasabi was also fresh but locally sourced from the US. It was amazing to hear all of the small details that went into each piece and the inspiration behind the dishes. Certainly, a beautiful experience and some of the best sushi also in the area.

We stayed at Andaz Napa for one night before Christmas to celebrate our Anniversary, and we booked Kenzo Napa for the dinner and it was walkable distance from the hotel. Kenzo Napa was established by Kenzo Tsujimoto in 2016, and received Michelin 1 star in 2018, and every year ever since. The price for Kaiseki is $295 per person, and my husband ordered the Omakase Pairing $197 and I got a bottle of Aoki Shuzo, "Yuki Otoko" Junmai, Niigata $40 to pair with the set. 2021 Suzu First glass of the omakase pairing is the sparking rose. This is made with 54% Malbec, 37% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc, with the smell of strawberry and blood orange. Cauliflower Chawanmushi The first dish is chawanmushi, with ginger, snow crab, etc. 2024 asatsuyu The second glass of the omakase pairing was the Sauvignon Blanc. The name is from Japanese meaning morning dew. Seasonal Hassun The second dish is the seasonal hassun, which is the traditional Japanese appetizer. Five different small dishes including the lotus root dumpling with bottarga, ehime bluefin tuna, shiso leaves rolled angel shrimp, Japanese yam with Italian caviar, and Hokkaido scallop with persimmon with peanuts. Sawahime Yamahai Junmai Third glass of the omakase pairing is the Junmai with the aromas of gardenia, ripe kiwi, papaya, green peppercorn, aged comte cheese. Yamaguchi Tilefish Owan This one is our favorite dish of the day! Very fresh and refreshing, with fish and vegetable and mushroom. Midorikawa Daiginjo The fourth glass of the pairing has a great hint of spice but elegant at the same time. Oita Sea Bream Sashimi The fourth dishes is the sashimi, paired with ponzu sesame shoyu. 2023 yui Rosé This Rosé was made with 65% Malbec, 26% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc. Paired greatly with the next course. Simmered Mie Toro Sawara Mackerel Love the texture of the mackerel. 2021 Asuka Asuka was made with 83% Cabernet Franc, 11.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, 1.5% Petit Verdot. Got 93 points on Wine Enthusiast. Wagyu Tendon and Japanese Taro Croquette This Croquette was made with Japanese taro and wagyu beef. 2020 Rindo And with the next course is the red blend made with 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 23% Petit Verdot, 7% Malbec, 6% Cabernet Franc. The wine has great berry aroma and spices. A5 Wagyu Tenderloin Jibuni The seventh course is the A5 wagyu beef steak. Cut into bite sizes, with mushrooms and veggies. Daishichi Minowamon This sake has a strong smell of berry, banana, and pear. Velvety and buttery. Hokkaido Sea Urchin, Ikura and Mediterranean Bluefin Tuna Sushi Bowl served with red miso soup One of my favorite Japanese seafood bowl! Chef's Featured Desserts Three different desserts was great too. It has a goji berry panna cotta and fried spring roll with vanilla ice cream, and also a berry ice cream with caramelized walnut. They have also just completed an expansion and remodel which added more seating, and opened up the restaurant with a bit. They still use the iPad based ordering system which I always like, since it allows for better pacing. While before I praised them, this time left more to be desired. The sheen seems to have come off. Not sure if they changed chefs, but fish did not seem as fresh, sauces were a lot more heavy handed (overkill), and it just didn't feel as clean tasting as it used to. Maybe an off night, but not nearly as good as I remembered it to be. They have more cute robots now - and the bee decor makes it feel more like a proper restaurant. Though they have a wide menu - I would probably encourage sushi lovers to look elsewhere. The ramen, fried rice, dumplings and bento boxes are probably a stronger suit here now. They also seem to be doing a lot of take out service now as well.
