The sushi is fresh, portions are average and the price is still fair but I find that that the waitstaff is overbearing and the sushi chefs are docile. Came here in my quest to try the different sushi places around my job (Freeport/Merrick) and this is also the place I know my boss frequents. I came later in the lunch hour and it was quite. I had a sushi combo for lunch with 2 tuna,2 salmon,1 yellowtail, 1 white fish, 1 eel,1 shrimp with one California roll. Sushi Ko has black rice and I hadn't tried it yet, so I had that with the roll and sushi pieces. The lucnh also had miso soup and a salad. The size of the pieces was nice and the California roll was good as well. The black rice had a crunch to it, which was nice, but I think next time I'll stick with white rice so I know how their sushi compares with other places I have been. I would go back and give this place another shot. I'd actually like to go with a few people as there were quite a few special rolls that sounded really good and would like to be able to try more, which would be easier with a larger group. read more

Went here many times and it is consistently good. I'm not bug on sushi so I ordered the salmon bento box tonight. The salmon was delicious as was the Negamaki and the little crunchy things that came in the box. They were similar to egg rolls but skinny. Service was great and the place was comfortable. I've dined here once and it was great. My friend and I just stopped by for a quick sushi bite. I only got a Spicy tuna Roll and my friend got the Yankee Roll. They were both very good. We also did sake bombs which are always fun. Service was quick and the waitress was polite and friendly. We got wash cloths before our meal to wipe our hands, which was very nice. The food and drinks were all reasonably priced. I will definitely return and hopefully try more things on the menu. Oh and it's also very nice inside. Nice atmosphere. I also got take out from their once. I ordered from their lunch menu. It was just great! I got the two roll special. I ordered the Spicy Tuna Roll and Shrimp Tempura. Both were delicious. The special also comes with a salad with ginger dressing and a cup of miso soup. Everything was just fabulous. Food was made quickly and it only cost a little more than $9. I picked it up and was in and out in a minute. On one other occasion, I got delivery. I ordered the Triple Spicy Roll which was a little bit of a disappointment because it wasn't really spicy, but it was still delicious. They delivered fast and since my doorbell doesn't work, the delivery guy called the house to tell me he was outside. Service was great again. They never let me down. Overall this place is lovely. Just ate here tonight. Food was well priced. Atmosphere was nice for a local Japanese restaurant. The food tasted solidly good. The food was well presented, but not presented or made like an authentic Japanese restaurant would present its dishes. For authentic Japanese, try Yamaguchi in Port Washington. Take a look next time when your sushi platter is served, does the plate look clean? Mine seemed like they just took a rag and wiped off the previous person's food and place mine on it. I noticed this with several dishes I had. Hopefully this is not the norm, but takes note when your food is served. The food is very good if you are not familiar with real Japanese food, so I am not knocking this place. If you want very good Asian/Japanese food then come here. Otherwise try Yamaguchi. read more

This place has some really great and creative sushi. Even though it's a bit pricey, the surf and turf roll is a must try for everyone who likes sushi even a little bit. You also have the option of getting black rice in every roll, which is also awesome, but will tack on a dollar to any roll that doesn't come standard with it already (which most rolls don't). I went here for lunch with a friend, we were referred by other friends' that it was good. We were seated and were going to order from the lunch menu. I did not want fish so I asked if I could switch it out for the sweet potato tempura instead of the fish and reluctantly they agreed. Can't comment on the food because we never got it while dining in. Lost patience with this place after 45 minutes (they claim it was more like 30 min but a phone call I made after my order showed 45 min when we got here on a Tuesday evening at 8:30pm. Did they take 15 min just to put my order in the system??). Anyway this place needs serious Operational help. The place was pretty empty on the first floor with 2 women celebrating a bday who were done eating and a larger party upstairs. We are a party of 5 with 2 children age 4 and 7 who were famished after a long day at the beach). After 30 minutes went by, I've requested the first male waiter that they check on the food for us and to get the kids their food first because it's 9pm at this point. He gives me a quick nod and nothing. Another 5 minutes go by and I flag down a female waitress expressing that I'm getting upset and to PLEASE at least get the eel avocado rolls to the children. She promises the food is almost ready. More food goes by us to go upstairs and more delivery orders continue to be filled. Third time I go up to the Sushi counter to tell them please bring my kids their food, they are starving it's been 45 minutes. After another 5 minutes I gave up and insisted my family get up and go. It's only then the the lady in charge seems to care or to take notice and the eel avocados come out. By this time it's too late. I offered to purchase the eel avocado rolls but we are leaving. She tells me they are Crazy Busy (likely from the non stop take out orders they keep filling). They need to learn to prioritize people dining in first. They also need to learn how to at least deliver some or part of my large order to at least appease patrons who are waiting so long. Or if they are that busy, tell me before I sit down, so that I can decide to go somewhere else instead of wasting my time and making my kids go hungry for so long. While they offered to give us the ready made rolls for free, I lost all appetite at this point and we left. I went around the corner to another sushi place to get my rolls to go and it too only 5 minutes. Won't be coming back until they hire a good Operational Manager that knows how manage and prioritize orders. Again can't comment on food quality, the the service is absolutely horrendous! read more

I ordered take-out from Sushi-ko for a school fundraiser last year. My expectations weren't high, but I was very pleasantly surprised at how good everything was. First of all, my picky kids really enjoyed the food which SHOCKED me. We wanted to play it safe so we ordered some California rolls and a lot of tuna- the "Amazing Tuna Roll" lived up to its name! The staff was very nice in the way they greeted us at the door and offered to help take our food to the car (3 kids in tow). Online deliveries usually take up to an hour of wait time and the online order form could be more user friendly to speed up the process. I had dinner at the sushi bar last night and we met chef/owner James. What a great find! Fabulous sushi. James knows sushi, he's the real deal. I go to some of the best sushi places in nyc and this restaurant is right up there. The unique daily list of specials had an eclectic offering of fish and sushi dishes that you won't find in typical sushi restaurants on Long Island. He had some beautiful salmon, both wild and farmed. I don't care for farmed fish but James turned us on to properly farmed salmon. He spoke about the farms in Scotland and New Zealand and their approach to farming quality, safe fish. I found the quality and presentation of sushi to be a 10. Incredible! By far my favorite sushi place. Food is delicious and super fresh and the most impressive aspect that sets it apart from other upscale sushi restaurants; consistency. I've been over 15 times and the quality of food, the taste, and the service retain their exceptional quality time after time. It's a smaller place, so either call ahead for a reservation or get there a bit on the earlier side. There generally isn't a long wait, but if you're in a hurry it's best to call ahead. They also seem to have a really strong take-out business which is also a great option. Can't say enough good things! read more

James Rocks, he is a talented chef and he offers so many unique sushi rolls. His hot food is also top notch, and I love that they offer black rice. Jasmine always welcomes you with a warm greeting and a big smile, she also has an amazing memory and always remembers all our favorites. If your open to trying new things their specials can be exotic, James goes to the fish market himself daily and hand picks fish I have never seen before on any Japanese restaurants menu.
