This is not a fancy sit down spot. Nevertheless, the sushi here is amazing. My suggestion is the Godzilla roll and the Dragon roll. These are my go to selections. It is evident that this is a family owned business. The folks there are always pleasant and welcoming. When it is a Friday night and you are looking for some grub , this is the place. read more

How do you go wrong with a location that is very small, caters mostly to to go orders, takes them through an app for pick up, including free offers if you spend x-amount, gets the entire order right, does last minute add-ons and has extra (amazing) house dressing packs ready to go if you want more than 1 at the last minute...oh, and the roll is like $7? We ordered between 3 of us 5 rolls and additional items. I LOVED my (New) Black Pepper Tuna Roll, sub soy paper, no wasabi, with green salad. Were looking for something light until we could get to dinner. Such a treat! Cousin is a regular, and they treated her great, acknowledging her continued business. Everything was 1 minute from being ready when we arrived. Packaging was very functional and not more than needed. House dressing was as promised - something I would want to dip/put on everything. Sushi was plenty and much more value than we get for the dollar in the South on sushi. Would SO return! read more

Exceptional sushi! Tried the Philadelphia roll, rainbow roll, shrimp tempura, vegetable tempura, Godzilla roll, the lo mein, and a few other items. The sashimi was incredibly fresh, as was the wasabi. A small spot, but a gem! read more

Food was delicious, prices were amazing, rolls were large and more rolls than other places. How have I never tried this place yet? Very good sushi in Merrick. read more

Been going here for years. The staff is amazing, great service and even better food. This place has got to be the most underrated sushi spot in all of long island. It's affordable, great quality, and super delicious. Everyone needs to go! read more

I have been coming here since high school and I'm in my 30s now. I don't even live close by, but it's just such good food and the owner is so sweet and her staff is amazing and they just make me feel so welcome and happy every time I come in. Plus the food cannot be beat! Best fried rice I've ever had. read more

Ok-this is by far the best sushi in Merrick. Absolutely incredible. We ordered salmon hand rolls, yellow tail rolls and mackerel hand rolls. It was incredible. I'm not sure what to say. It was the best I've ever had. Only disappointment is that I want to keep ordering more and more. The best. Wow! read more

Went in at 8:50 on a Wednesday night. Kids had a concert at school and we're getting Ralph's. I wanted real food. I saw they closed at 9. I asked if they were closed. I said, "You can say yes." They said, "No, we're not closed. Please give us your order." We had peanut avocado and cucumber avocado rolls. They were super fresh and delicious. The wasabi was silky smooth. Thank you for feeding us at this late hour! read more

By far one of the better sushi places in the area. The establishment is clean. The staff are friendly and courteous; they do enforce social distancing, wear of masks and they do provide hand sanitizer for their customers. Their sushi and sashimi are freshly prepared and tasty!!! They have limited parking. read more

My first time getting their Sushi. Excellent tasting, large rolls and very reasonably priced. This will be my new go to Sushi place.

It's a hole in the wall and it's a gem. Came here for lunch on a early Thursday afternoon. We were the only ones there so the service was great. My sister and I got the three- roll lunch special. I got the spicy crunchy tuna, shrimp tempura and Boston roll. She got the salmon and avocado, shrimp tempura and another salmon roll who's name I can't remember. It was all DELICIOUS!!! Fresh, not super salty, and you tasted every aspect of the roll. Best sushi I've had to date. Will definitely be back. read more

Great place to quickly fulfill a sushi crave. They are very nice and always have your order correct and ready to-go. The quality and freshness of the ingredients are above par. There is more fish than rice and the prices are very fair for Merrick. read more

Shinsena Sushi - Sushi Bars Near Me - Merrick, New York

This place is hidden in a corner of a small plaza. We found out that it's been there for many years. So must mean they have a strong clientele for them to stay in business that long. The food was delicious, fresh and the prices are reasonable. read more

This sushi bar is located in the strip mail besides Ralph's Ices on Merrick Road. It's located in the corner of the mall behind Ralph's, so it may be hard to notice. There is usually ample parking in the strip mall or on the street. The sushi here is good. The service is always quick, and the prices have always been reasonable. read more

What a great little sushi place! Judging by appearance, you wouldn't expect much, but once you eat here you will understand the greatness that is this little hole in the wall. We ordered the Shumai, and the Kani Salad for our appetizer, both were delicious. The Kani Salad was perfectly dressed, not overly mayo-ey, it was also a good portion. The Shumai was amazing, just get it. For our rolls we ordered the Bruce Roll, the Fantastic Roll, the Riverhead Roll and the New York Yankee. They were all pretty big rolls and the fish was fresh, no fishy taste to speak of. My boyfriend said the spicy tuna, was the best he's had. I'm no judge for spicy tuna, it's not in the realm of foods I enjoy, but he often orders it, so I guess you can trust him. The prices at this place are extremely fair. only a few of the special rolls exceed eleven bucks, most being about nine. The lunch specials are also definitely worth checking out. They also serve complimentary edamame, which is a nice touch. I only have a few criticisms, the avocado was a tad bit under ripe, though still edible and didn't ruin the rolls. Most of the special rolls had some sort of spicy tuna, not my favorite. And the soy sauce tasted smoky, definitely not used to that, my boyfriend didn't even notice, though. All in all, great place to stop for sushi, if you are in the area. read more

Delicious and fresh sushi! Under 17 dollars for 3 rolls, miso soup AND salad which is pretty much unheard of considering you can pick any roll you want. The pieces are reasonably sized. Pick-up takes under 10 minutes! Service is polite. The place is small so I prefer to take out so that might be a downside for some ppl. read more

Been going here for years!! Always amazing quality sushi!! Highly recommend they have a large variety of sushi options to choose from. Food always made on time and customer service is amazing! Friendly staff!! This sushi restaurant also provides Fast delivery services as well. read more

By far the best sushi on the south shore. I have been ordering from Shinsena for over 6 years now and it has been consistently delicious !

Took a chance on this place last night. Big mistake. I usually go to my regular place, Komo, in Bellmore Village area where you can always count on good reasonably priced sushi. I ordered a few basic spicy salmon, spicy tuna, and spider rolls along with some Sashimi pieces over what was supposedly sushi rice (Hint, it wasn't. Just some flavorless poorly cooked rice with some fish powder over them. ) Everything tasted decent. The size of the rolls were not too small, just really sloppily put together. However, the spider roll was questionable. Seems like they need to learn how to make it properly. It's just wasn't done right. It's a pretty small kitchen that you're able to look straight into behind the sushi chef. You can definitely tell the place looked filthy. The possibility of critters crawling around is extremely likely. I highly doubt they can pass a health inspection. They definitely need to step up their game in terms of cleanliness and go back to school and learn how to make sushi properly. Hopefully they'll take these constructive criticisms into consideration. read more

Very good fresh sushi. The staff here is so nice. Same location for at least 20 years. Out of the many sushi places in Merrick & Bellmore, this should be your first choice. read more

This place is a gem... incredible sushi, amazing specialty rolls and lunch specials. For takeout Japanese/sushi it doesn't get any better... plus prices are much better then most places with similar food options. Staff is super nice and friendly. 100% my go to for bringing in sushi. read more

Do not eat here!!! I usually don't write bad reviews but this place is very dirty. I ordered the Sashimi Lunch today and got a real surprise when I went to shake the hot powder they offer on my soup. It was filled with little bugs. The owner was not too surprised and hardly apologetic. I told her to stop my order because I couldn't eat after seeing that. I couldn't believe it when they charged me for my soup and salad. This place and the owners should be ashamed. read more

I think this is best sushi in the area . I like the rolls they are actually normal size and not mini . The sashimi is good quality full size . Parking is easy . The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the eel sauce is not that good . read more

This place is great. Now I'm not going to lie it's THE BEST sushi in the area, but it is extremely good at an amazing price. Great little hole in the wall, awful location, it's hidden behind a Ralph's Ices, tiny dining room. read more

Not to sure why they have so many good reviews the sushi deff not great or amazing . Actually I would never go back . Deeply disappointed. My pork dumplings had no flavor nor did the Sauce have any . I bit into it and found something hard ? Like bone ?? Idk needless to say I only took the one bite, then I ordered the chicken fried rice not sure how you mess up rice but this was definitely to be desired . Flatly not good . I also ordered shrimp tempura rolls they had a funny taste and was mushy . Again I only had the one bite . Was to scared to not trust my "this taste funny instinct" . Ordered 3 Philadelphia rolls and 3 Alaska rolls my husband didn't like his food either and threw it away . There was no saving grace . I ordered about $60 Plus for this got a "free" order of California rolls again mushy but editable sad it was maybe the only thing I ate from this meal . Will not be returning .skip . read more

Had takeout from this place a few months back. Later that evening my stomach became hard as a rock and I was on my couch with a horrible stomach ache. I ate the salmon and tuna roll. Since I had a mild case of food poisening I had not returned. They need to use fresh fish and be more sanitary. read more
