Really glad I came here and gave this place a try since I live nearby. I wish I came here sooner. The food was incredible and the sushi tasted fresh. The flaming crunch roll was SO GOOD and they had really good spicy mayo which can be hard to find sometimes. My boyfriend also enjoyed the omurice dish and said it was good. Prices were fair as well. Overall it's a neat little place with good decor and good service. I'll definitely be back and am happy I found this place!

Spicy pork bento
Kathy X.

Stopped by here for lunch and my family ordered a little bit of everything. We ordered sashimi, bento boxes, ramen, sushi rolls, katsudon, and omurice and everyone was really pleased with their order. Everything is well prepared and pretty fresh. The sashimi is not the most fresh, but it's relatively good for the area. Service was really great as well and food comes out quickly!

Best sushi and bibimbap for vegetarian options available. Service and ambiance also good.

Great sushi 10/10 I HIGHLY recommend it! The roll Combinations were so delicious. I really liked the inferno roll. Great prices too!

Great food. Got their S n T roll and thought it was very unique. Fish is fresh. Good presentation. Lemon on top makes it refreshing. Would order it again! Only problem is service. This place was fully packed and only had 3 servers. So took extra long for any service. Also their menu is very confusing. Some items on the menu does not have price marked, and their bento box is not even on the menu.

HWE Dup Bap. hand for comparison how big the bowl was. but content not that much.

Got HWE Dup Bap. Dine in. $25ish. Wanted something light but not sushi roll. This was not recommended by anyone but decided to take the risk. It was a pleasant surprise. Light. Raw fish/seafood (fresh) small bite sized pieces. Assorted thinly sliced vege (seaweed, cucumber). Side hot rice. Spicy sauce on side. in a disproportionately big bowl. It was exactly what I needed and the hot sauce was perfect compliment and added necessary kick. Minus 1 for service. -no one served us after water. Yes it was busy but we felt neglected and we had to track someone to order and ask questions. -no one got us to go boxes or check at the end. Minus 1 for the menu -it was disorganized in the sense they had a whole menu with verbal descriptions and prices like the way it is traditionally, but another menu with just pictures and NO PRICES that DON'T NECESSARILY match up with the verbal menu. We searching all over and still couldn't find it. It shouldn't be like that. Also there was bento box pictured on yelp. We asked if their dinner bento was like what was pictured and they said no but COULDN'T tell us what was in it exactly. They didn't know their menu very well.

Food was super yummy and fresh! The tempura udon was super tasty too and i'm not usually a udon enjoyer. The sushi was definitely my favorite though especially the rolls.

This was our first visit, I was craving sushi and ramen. It filled up pretty fast after we arrived. Staff was very friendly and attentive. They have a really great menu which makes ordering hard, everything looks great! I had the yum yum sushi roll and the ramen. Both were delicious. I liked the location as well, as it's close to parks and downtown. We will be back soon

We've come here for take out a few times during the pandemic and I hear good things about this place from friends and family and spoilers alert - it's lives up to the hype! Everyone was perfect. The flavors were perfect. Nothing was too salty or bland. The spicy tuna sandwich was super unique and tasty. The cucumber salad wet the appetite nicely at the beginning. The yaki udon texture was nice a chewy and the veg adds healthy and colorful touch and crunch! [yeah I don't overcooked veg] But the star is the sushi. I mean c'mon, it's called sushi kafe for a reason! The rice is special. Special. The texture is has this amazing softness, delicate mess, chewiness..etc. I don't even know how to describe it but it's amazing. Don't tell anybody but it might even be better than Nobel fish...shhhhhh. Anyway the ambiance is nice - not too big or small. And the service is great. We got checked on many times throughout and the food came out super fast. So come early for dinner - like 5pm weekday. Must come back and try all their rolls and dishes. Bring some money though cuz it's not cheap haha. But it's worth every penny!

One of the better places I've had in Michigan! My friend and I came here on a Sunday evening, and we were promptly seated. We ordered two rolls and a tempura udon (not pictured). The udon noodles were cooked perfectly, with an excellent chewy texture. The broth was quite flavorful as well. The rolls were both quite tasty also. The service was very good, with the waiter coming to check on us frequently. Looking forward to my next return!

Small dining room, but love the energy and the small neighborhood vibe

We ate here for a Fridya night celebration dinner with our son. Sushi was fantastic, especially the YumYum roll and the Vegas roll. We loved the personalized service and the friendly interactions with the sushi chefs. Prices were reasonable, and they do a great job with carryout or dine in. Will look forward to eating here again soon

Ask the Community - Sushi Kafe

Is their ramen good?

AMAZING

Is there a half off sushi day? If so, when is it? Thanks!

They have 20% off rolls on Tuesdays, but I would still call because it may be different in 2019.

Can I order ahead for takeout?

Yep, I've done this before

This time we got the bibimbap, black goat soup, and a bone soup. We also got Jap Che for appetizer. Everything was satisfactory. Both the soups were piping hot. We got barley tea, which was complimentary. The service was below average. It was busy but our server never came back once to check on us. We had fried Mandu for an appetizer- they were delicious and crispy. We picked Combination A- which had bulgogi, marinated short ribs, chicken, and shrimp. All the meat turned out so good and tender. We also got the steamed egg- would definitely recommend this as well. All the Banchan that came with the combination meal were delicious. And comes with purple rice- we got one extra bowl so we'd each have one as the combination plate comes with 2. This was a good amount of food for me, my husband, and child. My 4 year old was a big fan of the food too- and they gave her a cute pink plate to use so she loved that. Also tried the Bokbunja, Korean raspberry wine, and it was good! Moderately sweet berry flavor, more of a dessert-y wine, it was fun to try!

I was welcomed by a nice lady at the register who took my order. She helped me with a couple of questions I had because I wanted to try something new but also wanted to get one of the Mozzarella Corn Dogs. I ordered a couple of tacos this time. Both were on the spicy side but not a lingering, hot spicy...just a quick "bite back" spicy, if you know what I mean. One was a Spicy Pork and the other was Chicken Teriyaki but both had a similar amount of spice. Might have been the sauce used. Hubby ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Bento Box. It was really good as well. I like this location as it's closer to me than Troy but both have great service and food.

I grabbed a menu and began my search for my fated dish. Having always been a fan of teriyaki chicken, that's what I went ahead and ordered. The staff, in the little interaction I had was friendly and the food came out promptly. Unlike some teriyaki chicken, this was thankfully not fatty and made for a pleasant dining experience. The avocado was fresh, and the bottled sauces that were included offered incredible flavor! I would say, from the meal, my favorite dishes were the chicken itself the kimchi (which was extra) and the noodles pictured in the bottom right (which I do not know their name). They were cold, which I believe is how they are served but they were really good and meaty! The kimchi was delicious and paired SO well with the dish! My only complaints were with the rice and the drinks. I was not really a fan of the texture of the rice and the soda was a bit flat. Overall I would rate Kimchi box a 4/5. A charming and clean establishment in its own right and I would gladly go back, especially to have some revitalizing food on a cool rainy day!

The service isn't bad, but I think the expectation is that you will let them know if you need something. They don't keep an eye on your water or drinks, but they were quick to fill them once we flagged them down. We tried some of our personal favorites and new things. They had a corn tea, which I never tried before. The flavor is hard to describe and a bit outside my preferences. It has a strong earthy corn taste. It was hot and came in a big pot. The banchan were awesome. I loved their kimchi, cucumbers, and fish cakes the most. They also had a seaweed salad and bean sprouts. We have tried sundubu jjigae with pork, kimchi fried rice, fried dumplings, japchae, and pajeon. I wouldn't get the sundubu again. There was something strongly overpowering the soup that was too intense for me and kind of bitter. Ive ordered this soup before at other locations, so I was surprised that it didn't suit my palate. The pajeon was huge. I prefer them thin, and this one was crazy thick. It was also overpowered with garlic, and I don't think those words have ever come out of my mouth before. What I would order again---japchae, kimchi fried rice, and dumplings! I love that they have so many options, and I had fun trying new things.

Service is a bit more hands-off, but I personally prefer that so it was a good experience in my book! One thing I must say is that I felt the menu was a bit limited. A lot of the menu consists of soup, which obviously isn't a bad thing (I personally LOVE soup), but my partner felt a bit of disinterest as he's not too keen on it. We opted for bbq and a shared entree (I can't recall the name, but it had pork belly and squid) instead. Both were tasty! The bbq also came with sides and two bowls of rice.

Our server, Julie, initially seemed helpful when guiding us through the menu and recommending rolls. However, she suggested the Rainbow Roll despite us specifically mentioning that we don't like imitation crab, which it contains. She also recommended the Tokyo Roll, which ended up being nearly identical to the Rainbow Roll -- aside from the spicy tuna on top, they are the same roll. When the sushi arrived, it tasted extremely fishy -- to the point where we couldn't even take another bite. When we let her know that the fish tasted old and fishy, she literally looked at her watch and said, "Yeah, it's the end of the night," and then walked away, which was surprising and off-putting. We arrived an hour and a half before closing, but the staff seemed to be rushing us the entire time. Servers were coming to the table almost every two minutes trying to take our order, which made it hard to relax. We also asked for extra napkins at the beginning of our visit and never received them. I ordered miso soup and it never came out -- after telling her to forget about it, she later brought two cups anyway. It ended up being the worst miso soup I've ever tasted. Honestly, I didn't think miso soup was something you could get this wrong. The spicy edamame was undercooked but actually very tasty -- we loved the chili sauce it was coated in. The seaweed salad was average, but it was plated over a large amount of sliced radishes, which made it look like you were getting more seaweed than you actually were. For $8, especially after being reassured it would be enough for two people, we expected much more. The Seafood Yakisoba noodles were overcooked and the sauce was a bit too salty, though still edible. Overall, we left feeling rushed, disappointed, and still hungry -- but so turned off by the fishy taste that we didn't even want to go anywhere else to eat afterward. Hoping this was just an off night, but it wasn't the experience we expected.
