This review is purely on the service of the restaurant. The food is 'aight'.
My family and I have been coming here since they've opened up. This was our alternative to Sushiland (service there wasn't great either). The food is passable and it is very close to where I live so it's convenient and quick. The service was great, too... But that was many moons ago. The service is slowly but surely getting worse.
Fast forward to 2014 on a not-so-busy (half capacity) day, with 3 chefs and 2 waitresses on staff. No food that we were fond of were on the belt. So what do people typically do when they don't see anything they like? Order, right?
Our order was placed by a very friendly and efficient waitress. She explicitly handed the order sheet to the chef who then proceeded to confirm. We received maybe 3/10 of the order right away since it was conveniently just made -- Ok, cool. Awesome!
The last 7/10 of the order decided not to arrive after 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and then 15 minutes -- Ok. I understand when it is busy. I know "half capacity" could be busy for certain places, but... get this:
The first chef was organizing the dishes, the second chef was prepping cucumbers, and the last one (the owner?) decided to just stand and gawk at chef number two, prepping cucumbers as if he was doing it incorrectly. After a few minutes chef three decides to head to the back while chef one continues to put away dishes (btw, there were plenty of dishes already). No orders were being prepped during this time.
No other orders really came in during this whole time. Again, the chefs were just doing additional prep work instead of tending to a customer's order. At one point it looked like one of the chefs crumpled up an order. Can't say if it was ours, though, so can't count that.
The waitress was nice, but not nice enough to remember that she took a big order from us to realize that we only had a few of our items successfully delivered to us.
First time I've ever had to call for a check early to get out of there.
I decided not to call out for any waitresses or chefs because... well, I've never had to. This place was 4/5 for us until today. I wanted to see how they would handle the situation, apparently not that well.
I understand that places like Sushiland and Hana Sushi are not meant to be upscale, best service, 5 star, yadda, yadda, but seriously? How can you forget about your customers? How can you not take the extra step forward to make sure they have a positive experience? How can you not check in on them? Ridiculous.
We decided to head to Readi Spaghetti afterward, instead (that's a separate review...).
Maybe one day, we'll come back and give them the benefit of the doubt. You know, second chances, right? We'll see.
Until next time,
