Mackerel and mixed vegetable tempura bento lunch. Was delicious.
    Candace Y.

I have to say that I'm surprised that I'm enjoying the mackerel bento lunch plate so much at the sushi cafe. I think I've had it the last three times I've been here in the past year and have enjoyed it each time. Mackerel is a strong tasting oily fish that has to be prepared "right", or the taste can go terribly wrong. I'm happy to report that the fish her as The Sushi Cafe prepares is very much to my tastes. I really enjoy the atmosphere, the service, and the food prepared here.

Service was great during lunch rush. We came in around 12 and were seated promptly. The food came out fast with complimentary miso soup and fermented cucumbers. Ambiance is mellow with Japanese decor. Will definitely come back for Lunch whenever in the area.

Sushi cafe has my daughter's favorite sushi roll, the crunchy roll, at my favorite price during their happy hour! Sushi cafe's happy hour menu has not only rolls, but a number of appetizers and small plates at great prices (please see the photo for the menu). There has not been a wait to be seated during happy hour and service has been friendly and prompt. There is a bar area to be seated in or a number of tables. There was adequate parking in the lot. The crunchy roll was delicious as usual. A complimentary cucumber salad/ sunonono was served. I enjoyed the calamari, but wished the portion was a little bigger! I ordered a sesame chicken entree to go which was a very generous portion. We will be back!

I went to Sushi Cafe for the first time yesterday with friends for Happy Hour. I've heard great things about their food so I was excited to try it. I ordered from the Happy Hour Menu as I wanted to try a little bit of everything. The pork spare ribs were tasty and tender. The Dragon Roll was perfect with very fresh fish. The Pepperfin was fresh and yummy with a good portion of Jalapeños. I tried a bite of my friend's pork Ramen and it was good. Another friend had the Veggie Ramen and was not pleased but I didn't try it so I can't confirm that it tasted "off". The ambiance was lively (around 5pm) but not too loud. The bathrooms were clean and well attended. The place itself is cute and well decorated. It's a casual atmosphere but still great for a date night. The service was efficient and friendly. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes.

We were in the area and decided to come here since they have happy hour (M-F 2:30pm-5:30pm). There was a good variety of items on the happy hour menu. We weren't too hungry, so we just ordered a roll and two small dishes. I didn't expect cream cheese in the chef's special roll- pass. I enjoyed the spicy calamari and grilled salmon kama. The calamari was crispy and the kama was meaty. If you're looking for quality rolls, then maybe happy hour isn't the way to go. The happy hour menu is a good value though.

Sushi Cafe has been around a long time in this area and they seem to have a solid fan base. Tucked away in a small strip mall, there is an impressive amount of seating in what seems to be a small space. Also, speaking of space, there is extra parking in the back behind the strip mall if you're struggling to find spots. The sushi is all fresh and wonderful. We love Sa, the chef behind the sushi bar on most days. We have followed him to multiple sushi restaurants, but it seems like he'll be here for a while. If you're ever feeling adventurous, just sit with him and let him feed you - trust. While I cannot tell you most of the items he laid down in front of us, I can tell you that everything was delicious. I think we did have a sashimi platter over ice and it was just as delicious as it was a beautiful presentation. The bento boxes are also quite good for those who tag along with the sushi lovers! The staff do seem a bit busy, waiting on so many tables, but they are polite and try their best. Menu as of 6/18/2025

I've been coming to this spot for At least 3 decades , and it never disappoints. While I absolutely love the Alhambra location -- it might even be my favorite -- I've recently moved back to Land Park area and find myself drawn to this original spot again. One of the main reasons? Chef Sai. Chef Sai originally started here, moved to the Alhambra location, and now he's back -- and whenever he's working, I always sit at the sushi bar. He's incredibly talented, not just in preparing sushi but also in entertaining guests. If it's not too busy, he'll do little impromptu "shows" like slicing a cucumber into a flower behind his back. It's wild, and just adds to the charm. My go-to is our custom roll he makes for us: scallops inside and out, with cucumber, topped with Meyer lemon, masago, and a mix of house sauces and mixed it up with jalapeño or other fun stuff ... It's always absolutely phenomenal -- he nails it every time. While I usually rave about the barbecued albacore at the Alhambra location, I recently ordered it here and, honestly, it was the best version I've ever had. Sadly it had less salad on the side, but the flavor? Perfectly smoky and rich. Truly memorable. Also love the new lobster roll, but I don't like it spicy as they normally make it. I order it sweet and it's fabulous. One of my favorite things about this location is the happy hour. They serve surprisingly good wine for just $5 -- and not in cheap glasses either, but really nice ones. The short rib is probably one of the most incredible small appetizer dishes I've ever eaten, hands down. The Mango Tango roll (just $11.99) is a fantastic deal and bursting with flavor. If you can swing it, I highly recommend coming for happy hour -- just note it ends at 5:30, which can be tough for some schedules, but totally worth it if you can make it

Shrimp Tempura Appetizer $9.95 - soo perfectly light and crispy!

Pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Sushi Cafe! It looks small and unassuming on the outside, but inside is very modern with a great ambiance. They've been around for 30+ years but looks like they've undergone a remodel sometime. My friend and I split their $40 mystery box and a $10 shrimp tempura appetizer and it was the perfect size for us to share as we weren't too hungry. I was amazed at how much I liked their tuna sashimi! Such a smooth and fresh texture. Also their tempura is DIVINE! The batter is perfectly light and crispy. Definitely one of the better tempuras I've had. Service was nice and friendly, however when they got busy they weren't able to drop off the check. No problem as we were able to walk to the front to pay. Don't let the outside fool you! Sushi Cafe is for sure worth a shot.

I received a gift card for this place and we gave it a shot. We arrived around 7:30 on a Monday. Parking could be a hassle on a busy night but thankfully the night we went we were able to park close by. We were seated immediately but our booth was dirty. It had tons of rice on the seats and floor as well as dirty balled up napkins under the table. The woman who sat us scurried off so quickly we just swept the rice on the seat onto the floor with the rest of the garbage under our table. We were given a complementary cucumber refresher which we really enjoyed and ordered a full order of it as an appetizer. We also got edamame, spicy bbq albacore, deep fried Cali roll and the MVR roll. Edamame were big pods but needed more salt. The spicy albacore was not spicy at all, it was very garlicky as it had huge chunks of garlic in it with minimal jalapeños. It was cooked ok, as the center was still raw as it should be but it was very fishy, more-so than normal. Both the Cali and MVR rolls were dry, no sauce on them whatsoever. Definitely needed a miso or spicy mayo sauce. Overall, we weren't too impressed. With so many sushi options, this place probably won't be on our list of return spots.

    spicy calamari
    Qunnie R.

Service was okay. Forgot my wasabi and didn't refill my water. Ambiance was nice and pretty. Food was okay. The free cucumber was the best thing I had. The Godzilla roll was so nasty and the spicy calamari was average and pepperfin was fresh but the sauce was okay.

Upon arrival we were immediately greeted and sat by the servers. This was our 2nd time in one week dining here and the second time "Tiffany (young lady with mini tattoos) gave outstanding service. My Mom is battling stage 4 Cancer and has an extremely strict diet, so Tiffany was so patient with her and answered all her questions with ease. This is what made me want to help 5 stars! Tiffany is incredible! The food is also amazing! We ordered a variety for everyone's needs and I have zero complaints about the food. Everything is Fresh, Clean & Delicious! I loved the Ambiance-very Cozy and a welcoming feel....We will return! Thankyou Sushi Cafe for the great experience!

We sat at the bar area so, we didn't see how it was being made. My husband and I thought they probably forgot about our order and was sitting out for awhile. This time they sat us where all the chefs were making the dishes, so I finally saw how they make ngiri. There is 1 guy who makes it and I didn't like how he would make the ngiris but was not served asap. He would make about 3 sets at a time or some thing like that. The time from when it's made and time where it's served is too long. That is why the fish is warm by the time it got to us. Also, we didn't see a fridge where he was making it but it could be underneath around his leg area. I'm a little disappointed. From all the sushi documentary's I've watched, this is not how it's suppose to be. I regret ordering the Ngiri Mix again cause the fish was warm. Same like last time! I read other reviews where people have said the quality is going down. Even though, I am not a regular here, I can kinda tell that it is. My favorite are ngiri's and it doesn't beat Kura's ngiri's right now. Kru just give's bigger portions but the quality of Kura's is superb! Since that visit I have returned three different times, always bringing someone different to show off this excellent restaurant find located near 73rd and Stockton Blvd Engawa Fusion is such a special place-this restaurant is over 30 minutes from my house in Natomas in traffic ,yet that never stops me from trekking my way across Sacramento-I love this place that much. On this particular visit we started with 2 different sushi tacos-We had the tuna version and the salmon version-each priced at $11.00. Now I could write a novel explaining the virtues of these culinary creations but I will keep it short-the tuna and the salmon tacos are such the perfect bite-well balanced-well seasoned-surprisingly heavy in the hand while being light to the taste-it's truly been my favorite new food item discovery of 2026. Next we went with the Stir-Fry Udon and this cost us $16.00. I've described this dish in the past as a dish I could eat every day of my life and would be a very happy person. The flavor and seasonings are flawless, the noodles are cooked perfectly, great chew-a very slurpable noodle for sure. I can easily see why this dish is such a popular item on their menu. This restaurant was given a spot on Yelps Top 100 Places to eat in 2025-nothing in this visit did a thing to show that honor wasn't well deserved. In closing-I don't know if I could recommend this spot any higher and I plan many future visits whenever I want to show people how amazing the culinary experience in Sacramento has truly become. 10/10 experience. We ordered the Power of E Roll , Salmon Lovers Roll and the Tokyo Don. Everything was perfectly balanced, fresh, and made you roll your eyes back a bit in enjoyment. I feel like it a time of shrinkflation, sysco-fication, its fewer and farther between that I leave a restaraunt uttering "...damn...that was good...damn". Tokyo Table gave me that experience today. I have no critique, only praise!

It didn't take long for a wait list to accumulate so it is def a popular spot. The service was a little slow but the place was packed. The food was 5/5: - Poke Salad: 4/5. So spicy my husband had to give me his sea steak and finish it for me. - Sea Steak Salad: 4/5. The steak was perfectly grilled but most of the sauce was under a huge amount of unnecessary lettuce. - Broadway Roll: 5/5. So good. (The rolls come in 10 pieces but the cuts are smaller in size and easier to eat. We all finished our rolls. ) -Sunshine Roll: 4/5. This wasn't marked as "hot" but it was very spicy and I had to wipe some of the siracha sauce off to eat it. The lemon slices on top were delicious. - Messi Roll: 5/5. Hubby would get it again. - Firecracker Roll: 5/5. Son in law ate every bit!
